An important item that took place in the late 90’s was not allowing Canadian banks to merge, which has lead to their present stability. Thank Chretien and Martin, not Harper.
An item that Harper does not talk about is our high unemployment. It is over 8% compared to 5% less than 3 years ago.
The main driver of our present economy is commodities, iron ore, nickel, coal, etc. These items were in the ground long before Harper was born and the only people responsible for the commodity boom are the users which are mainly China and India.
The size of the Federal Government has expanded by 20 to 30% since Harper took control. This basically another way of inflating the economy. Remember that Harper is a Conservative which generally stands for less government, but not so with Harper.
Harper’s “claim to fame” is the economy, as that is all he talks about. A few points to consider.
Harper inflated the economy to arrive at a $ 55 Billion deficit, the largest deficit in Canadian history. Inflating pumps up the economy in the short term but to eliminate the deficit will cause economic pain. Remember that Harper inherited a government that was in surplus from the Chretien days.

Both the Liberals and NDP plan to raise taxes on businesses to pay for their new programs and tax subsidies. Although they like to talk about how great an idea it is to take from big, evil corporations and give money to the people, there is a simple economic flaw with doing that. Companies will leave Canada and move to other countries with better tax rates and take jobs with them.

We spend hundreds of billions on defense and our military every year, but humanitarian gestures are often frowned upon, i.e. welfare, public housing, etc. It may not be a big problem for you guys, but if we were to cut down on war and the war on drugs we could prosper.
Don't you think North America should legalize cannabis, which would free up prison space that is being occupied by minor offenders who either were in possession of or selling the substance? In turn, we could use the that space in the prison system to house rapists and murderers; those who deserve to be in prison. A non-toxic substance which it is not possible to OD on should not be illegal. It would generate tax revenue which we definitely all need right now too.

In 2004 he tried to form a coalition with the Bloc and NDP, In 2006 harper and those same parties defeated the government throwing Canada into another election. In 2008 harper defeated his own government and yet again we had another election.
2011 harper knew the majority in Parliament would not stand for his lying and deceit so he prepared for this election with those damn commercials.

I don't like Harper's approach of trying to convince voters that parties need not to be trusted, and then turns around and asks for a majority. That doesn't fly with me. I can see the Liberals being second and they'll have my vote because of that - because I don't want a Conservative majority. A minority government is what this country needs - keeping all parties modest. I wouldn't vote if i had a choice

Both the Liberals and NDP plan to raise taxes on businesses to pay for their new programs and tax subsidies. Although they like to talk about how great an idea it is to take from big, evil corporations and give money to the people, there is a simple economic flaw with doing that. Companies will leave Canada and move to other countries with better tax rates and take jobs with them.
...I guess for the Libs it isn't a problem because we can all live off welfare together when we lose those jobs.

Don't you think North America should legalize cannabis, which would free up prison space that is being occupied by minor offenders who either were in possession of or selling the substance? In turn, we could use the that space in the prison system to house rapists and murderers; those who deserve to be in prison. A non-toxic substance which it is not possible to OD on should not be illegal. It would generate tax revenue which we definitely all need right now too.

That is why I'm asking you whether you believe we should legalize... if we legalized it, the sale of it would then be in control of legitimate distributors. It would be similar to alcohol. Alcohol was prohibited in the States in the 30's and it created the Mafia and Al Capone was notorious for his reign over the illegal alcohol trade. If legalized, gangs and these other "scumbags" would then go out of business. Legalization would eliminate the organized crime aspect.

Very funny but you should get your facts straight. It was Harper that has been on a quest for power.
In 2004 he tried to form a coalition with the Bloc and NDP, In 2006 harper and those same parties defeated the government throwing Canada into another election. In 2008 harper defeated his own government and yet again we had another election.
2011 harper knew the majority in Parliament would not stand for his lying and deceit so he prepared for this election with those damn commercials.
