I remember my dad's years in the factory. He retired in 1977, just before I first heard this song. It describes life back then. The factory almost killed dad, his health improved when he retired and he even stopped his heart medicine at that time. He lived 29 years more without medication.
People who lament how our factories have moved to China are only considering PART of what that means. The "working life" in a factory isn't really a good life. It sure wasn't for dad.
I always took it to mean that the anger/resentment some of the men bear because of the hard factory life will take it out on others...bar fights, domestic violence? Thanks for the comment!
Yeah, we must like many of the same Springsteen songs, cause I'm also just starting work on a video for "Streets Of Fire" (definitely one of my favs as well!)
Coincidentally, my next upload is for "The Promised Land"....I've just finished the video. I previously did a video for "Adam Raised A Cain" as well...check it out if you haven't yet.....planning on a vid for each song on Darkness on the Edge of Town.
Very cool to hear from you....hope you enjoy some of the other vids!
It's is such a beautifully poignant, yet pretty bleak tune......I'm sure many people can relate to the words. Thank you so much for checking it out and commenting.
Yeah, I count every song on Darkness on the Edge of Town as a favorite. Thank you so much for checking the video out and for the comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
Look for my other upcoming vids for other songs from the album.....next up, "The Promised Land".

@MetalGuruMessiah I think of this tune when I walk past a factory; Streets of Fire follows this song and it may be my #1 Bruce song.

Yeah, I agree....it's a very short but potent reflection of what a life of factory work will to do a man. Thanks for commenting!
