Wow the air date was 3 days before I was born. Thank you Mr Don Cornelius for being a trailblazer and a visionary and as one of your former dancers stated on radio this morning, he saved soul music by bringing it to television. RIP.
JAMES BROWN is more than a musician: he is a force of NATURE!
The more you learn about the man's humanitarianism and social conscience, the more you respect his life. Of all the artists I regret not seeing "live", James Brown and John Coltrane top the list.
A beautiful video; thanks for sharing!
"Papa didn't cuss: he didn't make a whole lot of fuss...but when we were BAD, Papa beat the HELL out of us"!
Not only would he fine band members for missing a beat , not following lead ...he's let them know DURING the song they were going to be fined ... he was very Strict , but the out come was mastery of his music .... and the best funk/soul band in the world .
Can take those Illuminati puppets GayZ , kanye and shove them .
The Original GODFATHER all respect no Prince no Michael jackson (GIANTS)without this man i wish the brothers would get back to being funky i miss this vibe Jimi Hendrix started out playing for JB anybody who really knows music knows He is the Backbone for soul hip hop and a lot other musical genres Feel good Music people.
Hmmm...the band doesn't quite get a hold of the groove on this performance of 'Papa Don't Take No Mess'. They wander off the core rhythm from the original track just enough to rob the song of its momentum...it actually sounds quite pedestrian here, which is really disappointing for a stone CLASSIC. They do a better job on 'My Thang', though.
a) I get complimented on my dance moves every party I go to.
b) I have several hundred JB songs in my collection, and I've seen countless live performances. I know when the band hits a groove and when they don't.
c) you're a racist idiot.

@get1rocstartim5 Ha Ha, But seriously- Did you know Janet Jackson used THIS SONG as the background groove for her hit " That's that Way " ??? You tube that tune and you'll hear Papa Don't Take No Mess.....
@get1rocstartim5 I knew it was a joke! MJ's daddy sure didn't take no mess! MJ idolized JB! He always said he wouldn't have a career if it wasn't for JB! JB was the originator, the Godfather of Soul, Soul Brother #1 and we will never see the likes of any one like him ever again and that goes for MJ as well. RIP my sweet soul brothers. Thank you for making my childhood and teenage years the best in the world growing up in NYC and Long Island.
There was no era in this man's long career where he did not rise to the top. JB : always profoundly on the cutting edge , and he stands alone. Thanks for posting!
In the first 43 seconds there are about 20 Hip- Hop golden age classic on just that opening riff alone from "Biz Markie"s" the Vapors to the rest of the jams where Tom Scott and Rhythm Hertiage" nicked for their theme of S.W.A.T. James Brown was the boss and the greatest frontman in the history of Rock- N-Roll
Ahhh, a 41-year-old JB at his most menacing. Looking like a pimp and/or porn producer, JB is hipper than hip, giving us one more iconic slice of R&B gold with "Papa Don't Take No Mess"/"My Thang". This victory was particularly sweet because the hits were becoming far and few between for Soul Brother #1. I loved how JB was able to roll with the times and still keep his game tight...like a true Godfather should!
