Everyone needs to understand that television standards have changed, not so much the comics. What you see here is by no means a collection of choirboys! These guys could get down and dirty with the best of them when not being censored. This is a difficult era to explain to those who grew up with cable television. This was back in the day when ABC, NBC, CBS and (sometimes) PBS were your only options. There wasn't room for the junk you see today. Quality was definitely higher.
I LOVED Foster Brooks, no one could play a drunk like he could, all the while being sober! These DM Roasts were wonderful, p-in-your-pants hilarious!!!
I miss the good ol' Celebrity Roasts...all the great comedy geniuses are there....Dom, George Burns,,,Foster Brooks...Ruth Buzzy...ahhh GOOD comedy...not the swill generated these days.....Sigh this was the GOOD stufff....actual funny comedy...SIGH
@pattiemac1 Total nonsense. They were EXTREMELY crude. You just never saw it because it was on tv, and the censors controlled the editing. It's incredible how naive you all are.
@jesusfreeq777 That's what YOU think! These things were HIGHLY edited before airing. Live, they were FILTHY! The censors just wouldn't allow any cursing or vulgarity on tv back then. Many of these comedians were also extremely filthy in their live shows (especially Don Rickles, Redd Foxx, and Dean Martin).
@Sheldonwh i own some of these on dvd and there are unedited ...nothing dirty on them so you wrong about that...and redd foxx was dirty in his stand up but i saw him on a talk show once and he even said he could be clean or dirty and he knew when he was allowed to be dirty and he knew when he had to be clean and he could do ether one ...just admit these guys can be clean and funny ..they didn't have to be dirty to be funny ...they was to gifted to need to be dirty ..i
@TheSteelersrock1010 Good for you. I actually attended TWO of them. So that kinda trumps your (probably heavily edited) DVD collection. The memory of "those good ol' days" may be comforting to some, but those of us who were actually alive back then can tell you firsthand that there was nothing particularly "good" about it. Nothing much has changed...except maybe your access to information about today's goings on. The latter skews your perception a great deal.
Do not watch this and eat Cheerios at the same time! :D

He actually quit drinking long before this, but used his own battles with alcohol as an inspiration. This was the only act he did.
