The pilots were stupid to have put themselves in such a great risk for not only themselves and the plane but the entire audience. However I'll give them balls for staying in the plane until they now it's completely stalled and won't hurt anybody until shooting themselves out.
Most of them are Russian and the Mig-29 is 9 times more dangerous (unworthy) to fly than a American or British fighter. It's mainly because the Russian's dont get trained properly and their aircraft dont recieve proper maintainence.
If those are actually the reasons, then the aircraft itself might not be that much more dangerous than its American counterpart. I'm quite sure that those Hornets and Raptors and whatever would be equally dangerous if the maintenance was neglected and the pilots poorly trained.
on the contrary , Soviet Fighters were simpler , more ruged and advanced than their coutnerpart , as for the pilots ....they are the of the best trained in the world .
i'm sure part of it is the simple fact there are ALOT more flying around. russia is known for stating "quantity has a quality all its own".
however part of it may also be factually inferior engines (reliability and efficiency wise), shoddy construction/maintenance, and that the russians love to hot dog.

My specialty is turbines, where i can tell you from experience US alloys, technology and processes are far superior to anything from Klimov, Lotarev and Ivchenko/progress group.
If you believe otherwise you are a troll. Simply look at the engines efficiency, compare any modern (1970s+) western engine to its Russian counterpart. @racer42O Just wanted to add to this comment by mentioning the SU-30MKI's performance at red flag in the States. The Indians brought them over and the regular spacing between take offs for American Aircraft was 30 seconds. The Indians had to be spaced to 1 minute and a half since the engines were very susceptible to any debris that was lifted off the runway from the previous aircraft and they didn't want to damage any of the aircraft.
@nastystank - well, i could talk turbines, physics and religions forever but i'll try to get in my thoughts in 500 characters. when i heard Indians being an american (of russian decent) it took about 5 seconds to register..i was picturing red faces, feathers and tomahawks..lol..(but i'm well aware of the India deal).
There are several factors with these MKI engines. 1st, the russian thrust vectoring is very touchy (only 25 hrs between EXPENSIVE rebuilds) 2nd is the alloys, i will elaborate.

Adding to what you said about the thrust vectoring Gen 4 USAF Fighters like the f16 and f 15 were consistently beating the SU30's in dogfight's because when the Indians would activate the Thrust vectoring they would stall out and become easy prey for USAF fighters. A video surfaced of a USAF fighter pilot talking about the red flag engagements somewhere on the internet.
i haven't heard abt the stall problem you mention, do you mean the aircraft stalls or the engines actually stall..I could see the Indians maybe getting a lil anxious & hvng less experience thy may try to use there thrust vectoring MKI's against the non-vectoring f-15/f16 they find themselves unable to properly fly the aircraft and misjudge the capabilities of thr craft.
the only other thing i could think of is lack maintenance, the Indians began switching to no vectoring engines for this reason

US super-alloys get stronger as they get hotter (i know this is counter-intuitive) as the russians try to increase inlet temps to boost thrust and efficiency there turbine blades are more fragile.

I would like to see up close more the russian aircrafts and plan to goto MAKS 2011 if possible. I take language now for about 6 months on russian so I should be prepared but I'm always drawn towards russian aircraft design.

before you say something like that you should study aerodynamics. in a fight between an F-22 and Su-35, the F-22 could probably still be able to outturn the Flanker. it's all in aerodynamics and engine power. the F-22 may *look* less maneuverable than the Su-35, but I'm confident it actually is more. we're talking about turn rates, not airshow stunts.
1. The F-22 Does turn better than Su-30MKI with TvC on both.
2. It is unknown whether or not the Su-35 would out turn the F-22, but the airframe of the Su-35, or also an Upgraded Su-27, has a similar airframe as that as the Su-30MKI, as well as a similar engine.
3. Yes, the Su-35/Su-30MKI has 3D TvC, but only at 15 Degrees. Where as the F-22 has TvC of 20 Degrees.
Saw in action during Red Flag, US forces found it easier to dogfight a Su-30MKI than the Raptor.
4. The Su-35/Su-30MKI does have several major disadvantages over the F-22.
A) Lack of Internal Weapons bay, increasing drag.

Yes, one F-22 is in most situations / conditions superior to one Su-35.
But you can afford 6 Su-35s for the price of 1 F-22. In this case, I'd bet on Sukhois.

the F-22 is not more like an multirole aircraft, its an Air to air fighter. Its engines and, the components inside the plane such as its avionics are meant for dog fights a.You are thinking of the F-16, F-18, and the F-35.Those aircraft's are Multirole. The F-22 will dominate the skies for a long period of time until America creates a new Air to air. =P

hmm, I should disagree, man.
before you say something like that you should study aerodynamics. in a fight between an F-22 and Su-35, the F-22 could probably still be able to outturn the Flanker. it's all in aerodynamics and engine power. the F-22 may *look* less maneuverable than the Su-35, but I'm confident it actually is more. we're talking about turn rates, not airshow stunts.

1. The F-22 Does turn better than Su-30MKI with TvC on both.
2. It is unknown whether or not the Su-35 would out turn the F-22, but the airframe of the Su-35, or also an Upgraded Su-27, has a similar airframe as that as the Su-30MKI, as well as a similar engine.
3. Yes, the Su-35/Su-30MKI has 3D TvC, but only at 15 Degrees. Where as the F-22 has TvC of 20 Degrees.
Saw in action during Red Flag, US forces found it easier to dogfight a Su-30MKI than the Raptor.

4. The Su-35/Su-30MKI does have several major disadvantages over the F-22.
A) Lack of Internal Weapons bay, increasing drag.
B) Less powerful Thrust-Weight Ratio (MUCH LESS)
C) Much Larger RCS, atleast 300X bigger. (3/0.01m^2) Of course the F-22's RCS has been quoted/Estimated at much lower size of 0.001-0.00001m^2. (marble size).
So, most likely than not, the F-22 will out maneuver the current Su-35, based on the specs above, and the combat experience against the Su-30MKI.

Not directly, no.
The F-22 fought the latest F-16s, f-15s and F-18s during several Alaskan exercises. And F-22 whooped the Legacy aircraft rear 108-0.
Then the Su-30MKIs fought many of the same pilots that fought the Raptor during Red Flag exercise. The pilots have commented that the fight was Much easier, and that the Su-30MKI couldn't turn, or climb nearly as well as the F-22.

2. there are some serious range of specifications shown for the Su-30MKI, from 230meters/second to 53,150ft/minute, to 60,000 feet/minute to almost 70,000 feet/minute.
Unless you can send me official specs, your data is as good as any of those stated above.
The specs of the 2 aircrafts points to a similar rate of climb, as both the F-22 and Su-30MKI share a 1.08 T/W ratio

There is no point why the US set the main Air superiority fighter as the F-22 if the Su-30MKI beats it. It makes no sense.
The US military might not always be straight forward, but they are not stupid, and nor are they poor. If there is a better alternative, or dissatisfaction of their bird, they will change it.
The fact is that we have pilots, who fought both MKI and F-22, and came out claiming the F-22 by far is superior.

Well, as the F-22s data is classified, the MKIs will be too. They didn't use the BARS radar at red flag, its capability is classified. But you can see in airshows that the plane can really climb that fast or fly as fast, whereas in the debut of the F22, it attempted a pugastchev's at low altitude (something that a flanker can do easily) and almost crashed as he stalled.

actually the fuselage of the MKI is more aero-dynamic than the F-22s. The Flanker series is known for their aerodyanmic fuselage...

The MKI might(MIGHT) be more aerodynamic than the raptor on Clean configuration, but when in combat load, i.e. carrying missiles, bombs etc, will cause its streamlined feature disappear.
F-22 on the other hand, retains its aerodynamic in normal combat load.
