I also don't think that River kills Rory, I just don't think he is the greatest man she knew, he may have waited 2000 years for Amy, but I still don't think that makes him the greatest. I think we are yet to find out the greatest man she ever knew, or it'll be the Doctor, which is lame and predictable, so probably not.

Don't be afraid of the haters! There are plenty of people who love Martha, myself included. (Not that it matters that other people like her--she's awesome and it shouldn't matter what other people think, but I know it often feels like it does.) She's so kick-ass! (and so smart!) I watched "The Big Bang" again....and if you remember the end when River was all vague about if she was married. If she is married, she probally killed her husband (seens as he's no where to be seen)....and that cant be Rory. Every one has their theory's and I'm probally just going against yours because I LOVE RORY ALOT :)

Good theory about Rory, I hads a think about it. The problem is, the events that River is talking about (killing the man), happened before the big bang episodes (in her time line) if it is Rory that she kills, surely she would know who he was at the time of the 'big bang'.... she refers to him as 'the plastic centurian' when they first meet.

It's just so good to see such a positive attitude to a Doctor Who-con, I remember the bad old days when being a fan was somewhat less of a popular thing.
The problem I had with Martha was just the whole "unrequited love story" they wrote for her. And Ten treated her so bad most of the time. I feel like the character of Martha had all of this potential but she never got to show it.
the only reason i don't think river kills rory is because rory has already died too many times :) it just wouldn't have the surprise factor anymore if river killed him. Other than that, I would totally believe it!

@ProfessorSpork I spoke to Doris Egan and was in a room with Jane Espenson. ONE DEGREE, BABY. And I have not watched much old Who, but the woman who played Tegan was SO lovely.
And yeah, Wilf is a good idea. But like, I know this sounds bad, but Wilf is old. So I feel like it would not have been the BIGGEST tragedy if he was killed as opposed to Rory who is so young, you know? I don't think I'm explaining this right. We can talk on skype about it sometime :)

I don't get people's hate for Martha, she's not my favorite (Tie between Jack/Amy and Donna personally) but she was a fun and great addition to that third season and truly a character that had a lot of depth to her.
@ZackHunter I've not had any terrible objections with any of the companions from the revamped series-- If Donna had joined the Doctor in RUNAWAY BRIDE, I might have disliked her, but as it happened, I think Donna was great. Martha was nice coming along when she did, as an "above average" person after totally normal Rose, and she's become even more remarkable in her appearance since.
I've actually grown to appreciate Martha a lot more recently. I really had a hard time getting past the fact that she just sort of left the Doctor. It seemed selfish to me, but I think I'm starting to understand her and why she had to leave him (besides the obvious unrequited love thing). But you should really make a video on the subject, I would love to hear your opinions on her character.

I have always thought that when River made that statement she was talking about either Rory or the Doctor. However, I have a hard time seeing them kill the Doctor (I mean, after all, that would mean the series would end with slim chance of revival). I could definitely see Rory though.

Martha was my favourite Tenth Doctor companion. Rose worked best with Nine and while Donna was entertaining as ever I quite liked Martha's story the most and she was an interesting character. Not to mention I thought Freema Agyeman was the most talented actress out of the three.

You should go to science fiction conventions. I was at one last weekend and I went to six really interesting pannels, all of them seated by sci fi writers. I've been going to these cons all my life and I absolutely live for them. The people there are just all so awesome.
I did have the theory that it was the doctor, but now you say that, it does have some sense to it.. she does used to word 'man' and the doctor isn't exactly a man. Theories are what makes this show so much more enjoyable, and i think the ones surrounding River are more so as there's so much mystery around her character. I'm excited to see where it goes!

I have only watched the Doctor Who episodes from 2005, but of the companions we have seen thus far, Martha is my favorite, also. Rose was too mopey and Donna was too irritating and Amy doesn't feel like a companion with the way she goes on about Rory all the time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them all as companions, but Martha felt the most interesting.
Also, I am sure this is nothing new, but I've always assumed River was referring to the Doctor.
1. I had a friend who brought up the whole Rory thing. 2. I have read/seen a few places that said they have been planning the whole River thing since they first brought her in. The name of the First Episode she was in was called "Silence in the Library". Just found that interesting considering the name of the person/group is called The Silence. Hope this get everyone thinking. I've even gone as far as thinking that The Silence might be in the first River episodes... who knows.
I really hope she kills Rory. Rory seems to be the one who always needs saving. I'll guess that Rory will be killed so the Doctor can go back to having one companion.
I pretty much bawled when Rory died so I REALLY hope you're wrong. But I also think there's a chance you're right with River killing Rory. I'm assuming she would do that by accident somehow because I can't see her intentionally doing it.

@ProfessorSpork I spoke to Doris Egan and was in a room with Jane Espenson. ONE DEGREE, BABY. And I have not watched much old Who, but the woman who played Tegan was SO lovely.
And yeah, Wilf is a good idea. But like, I know this sounds bad, but Wilf is old. So I feel like it would not have been the BIGGEST tragedy if he was killed as opposed to Rory who is so young, you know? I don't think I'm explaining this right. We can talk on skype about it sometime :)

I love Martha too, but I prefer Amy, personally I never understand why people liked Rose, because I never have. And although I think your theory makes sense, I don't want to see Rory die again! :'(

Counter argument: if Rory was the greatest man River ever met then surely she'd have recognised him in The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang, instead of just "the Roman Centurion"?
We even know she's met him at least once before in series 6 and she still didn't recognise him. I don't think it could have been Rory...

I don't get the hate on Martha - I liked her for being, you know, competant. Using her medical student skills rather than going 'Crumbs! XYZ problem! Doctor!' I think kind of opened the door to more independant companions. I know Rose solved some problems and all, but to me she seemed to be getting into more trouble than she could solve without others being forced to help. P:
... And the tiny Eleven there is really, really cool.

Just to note, after everyone is talking about which companions they like most, I'm one for Sarah Jane. And for modern companion, I think either Adelaide Brook or Wilfred Mott.

HOW DID YOU THINK OF THAT?!?!? THAT IS BRILLIANT!!! Of course the fact is the doctor isn't a 'man' in a literal sense, he is a time lord (I'm not say he isn't male). It makes sense! And also, I've never liked the idea that River kills the doctor. She might make him regenerate, but kill him... Also, she does love the doctor. Thirdly, under what circumstances would she get arrested for killing the doctor? I know I'm a bit vague in that last comment, but you see what I mean (I hope...)

I adore Martha! :D I'd say Donna was my favourite, but Martha is wonderful <3 Everything seems to point to River (who I also love xP) killing the Doctor, so it would make sense/be far more likely that she doesn't, and while killing Rory is a horrible though, I can really see that happening. Er, that made no sense, did it? xD

I liked Martha, she wasn't my favourite but I don't see why everyone hated her. Also I really really wish I was super rich so I could constantly go on flights to America to attend Harry Potter and Doctor Who conventions, America seems to get everything good.

It would make sense if it was Rory because it was so beautifully set up to be the Doctor and that's what everyone's expecting. I mean, if it was actually going to be the Doctor, they wouldn't go through so much trouble to make it look like it's the Doctor.

The real problems kick in if New Who stops for a few years then starts again, what would we call it? Post New Who? Modern Who? Now Who? Does the Old New Who become Neo Classic Who? Transitional Who? The Murray Gold Who? Does the Old/Classic Series become Pre Millennial Who? Dad's Who? Extinct Who?
These issues keep me awake at night. :P

I don't get people's hate for Martha, she's not my favorite (Tie between Jack/Amy and Donna personally) but she was a fun and great addition to that third season and truly a character that had a lot of depth to her.

@ZackHunter I've not had any terrible objections with any of the companions from the revamped series-- If Donna had joined the Doctor in RUNAWAY BRIDE, I might have disliked her, but as it happened, I think Donna was great. Martha was nice coming along when she did, as an "above average" person after totally normal Rose, and she's become even more remarkable in her appearance since.

I've actually grown to appreciate Martha a lot more recently. I really had a hard time getting past the fact that she just sort of left the Doctor. It seemed selfish to me, but I think I'm starting to understand her and why she had to leave him (besides the obvious unrequited love thing). But you should really make a video on the subject, I would love to hear your opinions on her character.

I have always thought that when River made that statement she was talking about either Rory or the Doctor. However, I have a hard time seeing them kill the Doctor (I mean, after all, that would mean the series would end with slim chance of revival). I could definitely see Rory though.
And, by the way, I like Martha a lot as well. :) You should definitely make a video as to your reasons why!! :)

Martha was my favourite Tenth Doctor companion. Rose worked best with Nine and while Donna was entertaining as ever I quite liked Martha's story the most and she was an interesting character. Not to mention I thought Freema Agyeman was the most talented actress out of the three.
I would like to hear your reasons for liking Martha as well as good counterpoints to criticism directed at her.

You should go to science fiction conventions. I was at one last weekend and I went to six really interesting pannels, all of them seated by sci fi writers. I've been going to these cons all my life and I absolutely live for them. The people there are just all so awesome.

I did have the theory that it was the doctor, but now you say that, it does have some sense to it.. she does used to word 'man' and the doctor isn't exactly a man. Theories are what makes this show so much more enjoyable, and i think the ones surrounding River are more so as there's so much mystery around her character. I'm excited to see where it goes!

I have only watched the Doctor Who episodes from 2005, but of the companions we have seen thus far, Martha is my favorite, also. Rose was too mopey and Donna was too irritating and Amy doesn't feel like a companion with the way she goes on about Rory all the time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them all as companions, but Martha felt the most interesting.
Also, I am sure this is nothing new, but I've always assumed River was referring to the Doctor.

1. I had a friend who brought up the whole Rory thing. 2. I have read/seen a few places that said they have been planning the whole River thing since they first brought her in. The name of the First Episode she was in was called "Silence in the Library". Just found that interesting considering the name of the person/group is called The Silence. Hope this get everyone thinking. I've even gone as far as thinking that The Silence might be in the first River episodes... who knows.

I pretty much bawled when Rory died so I REALLY hope you're wrong. But I also think there's a chance you're right with River killing Rory. I'm assuming she would do that by accident somehow because I can't see her intentionally doing it.
OR because River time travels she kills him before knowing him, and now she's getting to know him knowing that in the future she kills him? THAT would be depressing.
