"The citizenship test" is an absolute joke. It should not just be reviewed, it should be scrapped altogether. Could you imagine if England would ask all the Aussies that head over to work in pubs for 6 months to obtain their working VISA "Who is Sir Stanley Matthews?"

I'd like to see 50% of the so called "true blue" aussies pass the very same citizens test, I'm sure if it were simply an English WRITTEN test most ethnics wouldn't have any dramas passing. I am however ashamed to admit that the same probably can't be said about a large number of us who were born here and those who have been here for several generations.

The purpose of an English test is to ensure that they can integrate into our society. Without a competant knowledge of the english language how are they supposed to communicate or obtain employment. Immigrants will be unable to assimilate and will have to form their own mono culture communites which do not speak english. This causes alienation as seen in European countries like France, i only hope that Australia does not go down that road.
