Gosh,, What I have learned during my 13 year relationship is patience, understanding and most importantly respect. These things did not happen or was misunderstood when we were in our twenties. It takes Time and Patience to learn and grow with a person. Of course the obvious is not choosing a thug to be a Man or a Father but someone who has potential like you said.
