These ppl in Darjeeling r not minorities, but citizens of Nepal who want to illegally occupy parts of India through forceful means. They r taking the wrong advantage of a soft democratic country like India. These Nepalis know India won't resort to Bhutan like measures hence they have become bold over the years due to both center n state efforts to be politically correct n refraining from taking any tough action against these foreign migrants from Nepal.

Gorkhas/Nepalis were allies of Brits n the Gorkha Regiment is a British legacy. Gorkhas were used 2 enslave Indians not save our asses. U guys worked 4 money.

There were no Nepalis in DJ. Nepalis were brought from Nepal by the Brits as labourers 2 work in tea gardens. Till 1947 Nepalis in DJ were not even considered Indian citizens. majority of u guys in DJ r ppl kicked out of Bhutan or living after 1950. As per the 1950 treaty Nepalis can live and own properties but they will remain subjects of Nepal. Same courtesy has not been extended by Nepal to Indians.

This is rather short-sighted by the Guerkas. Even if they someday get their wish for an independent state, this is a blow from which the area of Darjeeling may never recover. People around the world won't stop drinking tea, they'll just stop drinking Darjeeling tea, by switching to other brands - a switch from which they may not return. Lack of supply will hurt the Darjeeling brand around the world.

That said, I support their separatist efforts. I just wish they had a better way to achieve it.
