  • In welchemJahr wurde dieses gefilmt ? - what year was this filmed ?

  • for the fatherland

  • Hmm. strange. I always thought the stug III was alittle longer and less chubby.

To the people calling eachother nazis and the dumbass who said "nazi scumbags", the Russians killed twice as many jews during the purges and you're RAF is responsible for more deaths in France than the Waffen SS. Not only that, there was a SINGLE BATTALION associated with the death camps and the Russians took credit for all the mass murders which took place outside the victim's villages during the dragnost.

  • 1945 Seelow Heights.

  • Comment removed

  • @DJMikaelito I thought that was much closer to Berlin in areas that weren't open fields? Let me know if that's now true.

  • Hey german guy on the tank, it has a reason that your binoclair has a form like that lol

  • They they were good tanks. Would have been better if they ran on water rather than diesel.

  • @farmer6987 god you're stupid.

1, you cant RUN a 30-ton tank off of water. Or steam.

2, they were gasoline powered, not diesel. Only two countries used diesel tanks: Russia and Japan.

  • @redreaper2020 It was a retoricle remark son. Thats the trouble with you you kids. Can you point out your state on a map? By the way the US ran their tanks off water. On d-day they ran the shermans off water and onto the beach. So please go fuck yourself and play your animation games, for you little boy are a moron

  • @farmer6987 ಠ_ಠ insulting me about a "retoricle" remark would be much more relevant if you could spell it right, mah boiiii.

And German tanks ran off of COMPRESSED AIR DURRR DURRR HRURRR!! /rhetorical

  • the last coloured footage, made by a greman news reel team short bevor the russian

    offence run....16.04.1945!

  • they are not tanks, they are assalt guns,no turret

  • @waynedaly100 . It' s right these are not tanks. They are StuG antitank assault guns /good in defense against T-34s/ , most probably attached to 5. Infanterie Division /fire back-up/ of IX Armee. Oder Front , April 1945 /certainly just before 16/04/45 Soviet offensive/ on this front.

  • @MacArthurDouglas1 yeh,i love them,im painting 7 of them at the moment in1/72 scale, for a diarama im building,is this footage during the soviet final drive to berlin? i remember this footage from the bbc show the war of the century, its very unique footage

  • @waynedaly100 . I think it's a unique film as well. Cause it was just filmed without obvious propaganda effects; just a cameraman took some pictures for newsreel and it's kind of unfinished. You are right they are last pictures at the Oder River, just before final Soviet drive direction Berlin. The German soldiers on the film were outnumbered /at this time/ proportion -> 10 Russians vs 1 German on this final clash. / about 1 mln Red Army vs 100 thousand Wehrmacht /with IX Armee/ They kept 3days

  • @waynedaly100 Larger version of this film /with infantry and artillery/ write ->" Wehrmacht Oder 1945" on You Tube.

  • @MacArthurDouglas1 sweet,thats cool,thanks

  • Nazi bastards

  • @mad1966dog come on pommy bastard wanna fight? call my grandpa a nazi and ill shoot you in your fucking face

  • @hardstyle905 ...Nazi fucking scum bag. Your grandpa watched your grandma being fucked by a Russian..

  • Those tank crews are all smiles considering they're driving off to their death on the eastern front

  • Technically those are self propelled guns, or assault guns depending on which term you prefer. They're not actually tanks.

  • Non of the real kick-ass German tanks in this clips. Stugs and Mk-IV's.....what you would usually see at the front.

  • more important than the tank armor or gun size of German tanks was their crews who had communications so coordination, and good tactics. They faced better tanks and were outnumbered in France but still steamrolled them due to that.

  • no it was there blitz kreig that took the world to defeat them

  • that tank looks beast

  • than tank looks BEAST

  • *smart ass-mode activated*

Didnt see any tanks .. just saw some self-propelled guns called Sturmgeschütz

    *smart ass-mode disabled*

  • whats the music called

  • Stalin was just as bad as Hitler simple enough. hitler killed almost an entire religion, stalin killed his people, and his political enemies.

  • Some people show some epic blind stupidity. Most of them were just the same man you or I are. Indeed every single American soldier thorws a puppy off a cliff?

  • I have just read memoirs from the WW2.

A witness wrote about a bauer which was working at his field. A man was walking after his horse, as a german plane has flown by. Plane made two circles around and then fired at this poor man. He was shot dead at the place.

His family have probably had a surprise - daddy has not returned from work..

This is with dedication to all those who write stupidities like 'I pity the Germans'.

I pity, that this pilot has probably not ended at gallows.

  • See, yo uare confusing every German with some nasty individuals. By this time, 1944-45, were talking about kids & old men that had no hope of winning and were being sent to their deaths. Hitlers unfair and unreasonable demands resulted in many unneccessary deaths. The guys trapped in Stalingrad, the Falaise Pocket were not all evil monsters. They were brothers, uncles, fathers & sons conscripted into the army.

  • This looks like the Eastern Front? The terrain is open but the ground/soil doesn't look like North Africa and the vehicle colourings are not Desert camo.

Poor guys were heading into the fire.

  • I believe the footage is from the area around Seelow Heights. Easter front but in Germany.

  • @thestaggie - "Poor guys"? They were on the side of evil, of murder, rape, torture, mass genocide, fighting for a dictator and you say, "poor guys"?!!!!! +

  • lol you must be pretty ignorant to base all german soldiers as evil? If you actually did some research, most of the main german military(not counting ss,or hitlers special troops) were just soldiers fighting without knowing there country's evil atrocities, sure some did ignore it, as well as participate in the evil atrocities. But not all were evil. Do you get what im saying? To think all germans were evil, is really an ignorant thought, just as the same as iraqis thinking all americans are evil

  • Josef Stalin was a dictator. It's believed nearly 100,000 German women & girls were raped during Soviet occupation. It was estimated that 20,000 of them commited suicide. And what about the German 6th Army? Hitler refused to let them escape while they could. So, they froze to deat. Starved to death. Eventually surrendered. 60,000 taken prisoner & only 5,000 returned home from Siberian labour camps & Gulags a decade later.

  • its sad to think these men probably died in there tanks. I mean, just think about it.

All the ww2 footage of the germans side really shows the last days of those soldiers lives seeing as most of the german military either fought to the death or were captured.

    Interesting huh?

  • But that can be said for all soldiers heading to the front. They all believed they were fighting for a just cause, defending their countries, their families. But for some reason I pity the Germans more. The regular German Heer were not the racist, oppressive Waffen-SS or Nazi's and they were punished so terribly by their captors.

  • @thestaggie Not, "all soldiers", were fighting for their families and countries. Good grief! The Germans were on the side of EVIL! They were NOT fighting because there country was being invaded! No, THEY were DOING the INVADING!!!!!!

  • Too much anti-German propaganda for you. Ever heard of the saying; "War is old men (politicians) fighting and young men dying.". And what about the Volksturm? Old men who were veterans from the 1st World War and boys as young as 13. Are they evil? This very video, pause at 0:06 and tell me if that young man smiling is a face of "evil"? The Soviets were just as brutal as the Germans too. I suppose you believe America & Britain were saints during the war? They done some stuffed up shit too.

  • @Draidic What is, "sad", is the 50 million people in Europe that died because of Nazi Germany!!!

  • assault guns...

  • Stug3

  • stug42

  • 0:07 cap backwards :D

  • and the trend begins..

  • @alikill likeAboss.

  • Good video, but none of these vehicles are tanks, all of them are assault guns, it's a big difference.

  • That's right. Nothing more than artillery on tracks. Very formidable during a tank battle though due to the calibre of the gun and shells it spewed out.

  • That's true. I think Assault Guns were actually credited with more tank kills than any of the purpose built Tank Destroyers or they came very close to them in number of kills.

  • Sturmgeschutz...

  • ones of the guys on the first tank looks about 12,poor kid

  • @timpatjoe - Indeed! Adolph Hitler was responsible for having MILLIONS of Germans MURDERED in order to support his EVIL INSANITY!!!

  • What was Stalins death toll? Oh yeah, he killed around 20 million Soviet civilians. Killed most of his officers. Killed his political enemies.

  • @timpatjoe he probably only looked like 12. but later in the war they really did draft 12 year olds.. my granddad got drafted at age 16 couple of weeks before the war was over but luckily he did not see any combat. lets pray it will never happen again

  • @therealbamlee It probably will, judging by the way the world is going..

  • excellent footage wish there was more thank you

  • Just shut up and enjoy the color references shown by the Stug 105 mm Howitzers! Honestly this is valuable to the panzer modeler, so just shut up and paint that panzer!!! -It would be very "funny" and nice to see a late panzer in just plain Red Oxide Primer (but with markinge on it), that sight probably would confuse a lot of people! :-)

  • I wish we had those tanks on the Allied side!

  • @AERO1779 - These aren't tanks. They are self propelled assault guns. Plus, we wouldn't want them on the side of the allies, as they were plagued with mechanical problems.

  • Nope. The Stug III assault gun was actually the most cost-effective armoured vehicle Germany produced during the war. They were the most numerous tracked fighting vehicle built and they killed many, many enemy tanks.

  • Excellent !

    + 5 !

  • New reports from the former Soviet Union detail how effective the Waffen SS units were. Read especially about the Demynsk pocket and the retaking of Karkhov where relatively small numbers of Waffen SS troops performed nearly superhuman feats.Canadian reports about the bravery of young Waffen SS soldiers also back up the awe in which the SS were held by the allies. Even the non German Waffen SS volunteers performed well like the Norwegians, Dutch , Danes and Belgians fighting for the Germans.

  • Agreed. There is a very good book - if you can find it - called 'Soldiers of Destruction' about the birth, life and death of the Totenkopf (SS) Division. What they were able to do as the 'Fuehrers' Fire Brigade' - similiar to other SS divisions - but a more extreme case, under malnourishment, relentless Soviet attack and lack of replacements or relief - was nothing short of amazing.

  • It's one thing to fight when you have a chance of success but that the Waffen SS would continue to fight in the face of overwhelming enemy numbers when all ope is lost is nothing short of incredible. I believe a lot of this has to do with the character, professionalism and national psyche of the then German people. I don't believe we will ever see the repetition of such exploits as witnessed by Divisions such as Der Reich and Totenkopf..

  • Before the Obama-Nation Foreign Occupation Starts, if it is not prevented by last minute JUSTICE, I wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

    Fröhliches Weihnachten

    Fröhliches Weihnachten

    Fröhliches Weihnachten

  • Why don't you go to HELL, idiot?

  • You should go to Hell punk, and the only idiot here, is you.

  • actually, you ARE the idiot.

  • wow kid, go suck one, your so cool because you can cuss on the internet, hope mommy loves you because its obvious no one else does.

  • Are you 18 years old punk?

I can cuss better in person to punks like you.

  • My grandfather was in the waffen ss but he didn't kill any jews or any other race.

  • At lot of imbeciles can't differentiate between the Waffen SS and the Algemeine SS.The Waffen SS were elite soldiers who performed near superhuman miracles in the face of overwhelming numbers of enemy troops and material. They were admired by even the most dedicated foe for good reason, History recalls the exploits of the Waffen SS who outperformed anything the allies tthrew at them-in the end they could not undue the disparity of resources despite all of their professionalism, courage and skills

  • the formation of the wafen ss , ended the war sooner rather than later , they drained the cohesiveness of the army

this unit (in the film ) is a very late war unit , ermm muchenburg or Hitler pz libe some political thing like that under the Reich minister of defence Dr Gobbles, Hitler having demoted ss pz div's for cowardice and ordered them to remove their Reich insignia.

mmm!! allies were always happy to see the SS , sooner they were broken them sooner the front would collapse

  • Waffen SS units were resented by the military because they drained resources that would have went to them you're right. But the overall performance of the SS Divisions speaks for itself. They would stand as a rock wall before enemies many times greater in numbers and equipment. In fact even all the Wehrmacht Generals began to praise the achievments of the Waffen SS. Most military historians say that they alone stablised the fronts, brought spectacular successes and prevented a German rout in end.

  • Very late because the footage is taken just outside Berlin on the Sellow Hights.

  • One shot from the IS2 at a close range yeah...but from 3,000 meters away forget it. However, the Tiger could destroy an IS2 at 3000 meters.

  • I don't argue about the different usage of the STUGs. My point is that what is shown on the clip are not panzers but self propelled guns. I mean those are STUGs, not tanks. Even the uniforms of the STUG crewmen were artillery uniforms rather than panzer uniforms. The difference is very significant.

  • Yeah. Didn't know about the uniforms though.

General public calls it a tank though. Just like how they call a smg a machinegun. :|

I understand why you made a comment on it though, because if you didn't, i would. :P

  • Guys! what is shown on the video are not tanks (panzers) but STUGs, which are self propelled guns and are considered as a part of the artillery. There are neither panthers nor tigers shown on the video.

  • While this is true, they were still used as tanks at the time this video was shot (skirts indicate later time period).

  • this bit of footage was indeed late war, like March 45 if i remember. it was shot for the German propoganga show Panorama, showing this field artillery battery engaging Russian lines on the "Zelo heights" (cant spell it i know but thats what the word sounds like)

  • You mean sealow heights then i think.

Thanks for the cool extra info's. Nice to know.

  • The clip shows German preparations (live fire training) on the Oder river before a major Soviet attack in March-April 1945...

  • goot

  • The german panthers and tigers destroyed anything that got in their way. The allies destroyed the tigergrouppen by bombing them or destroying their supply lines so they ran out of gas and ammunition.

  • Don't think tanks can be immortal. It's realistic to think tanks broke down and were shot down. It just happens. However, germany took back most if not all of their broken tanks back for reuse.

They did destroy more than they lost though, you got that right!

Too bad this was the reason they started losing the tank battles late ww2. Not too good, but too complicated and over armoured tanks. Took too many resources and time.

  • In truth the Soviet machines such as IS-2 and heavy ISU-100, ISU-152 killed a number of Tigers and Panthers. One shot from the ISU-152 (the "Beast-Killer") was enough to take out the Tiger's turret clean.

  • shut it hippie....

  • Just young boys, the army had lost all it's men... wonder what their loss was, probably over run by the soviet untermeschen soon after this film.

  • Fuck, make a guess who killed off all of those German "supersoldiers"...

  • maybe 1000 simple soldiers agains 1 supersoldier?

  • rytis2005 , do you really think there were 1000 times more Soviet soldiers? What drugs are you taking? The military losses were comparable, actually, more in favor of the Germans early in the war and in favor of the Soviets at the end of the war.

  • sturmgeschütz rulezz

  • nice

  • German tanks was simply the best, tookt the whole world to defeat them

  • They were good in combat, but they were expensive and they had often problems whit electronics or fuel leaks and stuff like that. That's why allies easy to produce and more reliable tanks won ...

  • ..and maybe because the brave germans fought against a whole world of enemys...

but youre right, the Panzer VI needed a few hundred liters of fuel for only 100km...

  • They had great tanks...much better than the US and Brits...but the Russian T-34 was on par with any German tank...except perhaps for the King Tiger...but most of those simply ran out of gas.

  • T-34 was a good tank but Panther was better. But T-34 was much easier and cost efficient to make and maintain. Didn't matter how many tanks Germans knocked out there was always more on the way.

  • lol give me a break!!the panther was a better tank than the t-34!the tiger is far greater than the t-34.during one encounter a tiger was hit 236 times by various t-34 models and it still survived!!

  • Almost all those hits on the Tiger were soviet Anti-tank rifle rounds which had NO chance of hurting it. It only took 15 hits from anything bigger then 14,5mm rounds, several of those were 4,5cm rounds which didnt stand a change. About 7 or 8 were 57mm or 76,2mm rounds which stood a change of killing the tiger.

Tiger survived true but the 76.2mm rounds damaged the gun recoil system and the tank was effectively disabled and thus inactive for the rest of the battle though it was recovered later.

  • Please, don't compare a MEDIUM tank T-34 with a HEAVY tank Tiger. T34 early in the war had no opponents and later in the war was primarily used to get into the broken enemy lines to rampage behind the lines. The Soviets had heavy IS-2, ISU-150 and ISU-155 to kill the Tigers. ISU-155 was called the "Beast-hunter" by the Soviet soldiers for being able to engage ANY German "animal" tank (Tigers, Panthers, Elephants, etc) - one hit with its gian shell was enough to destroy the KingTiger...

  • exscluding the soviets the germans wher the mastermind behined tank building of ww2

  • You have to realize also that the American's designed a tank that was meant to be used by cavalry units instead of horses. It was meant to be able to move fast and out maneuver any other tank which it did. They sacrificed armor and fire power for speed that's why so many of them got knocked out however the US always had more on the way they were expendable.

  • That is Very true But the Panzers where very fast

but what whould you say was faster the US Shermans or the Soviets t34 modles??

  • The Sherman and the T-34 were very, very close in speed except taht the T-34 could knock out a Tiger within 400 yards whereas a Sherman likely could not....

  • I assume this is footage from the TV programme "Third Reich in colour"?

The Music is spine tingling and quite moving.

  • this doesn't seem to be combat footage , but very near the East front !! anywhere in germany was near the front this time March/April 45?

An Army unit may be Munchenberg ? having a last bit of shake down practice ! don't think most of the teenagers have seen the Soviet juggrnaught up close before . still seems like their viewing this as a game .

if any one has definite info on this clip shear it ta!!

  • the germans had the coolest uniforms especially the panzergrenadier

  • Nothing better than a Soviet officer corps uniform, especially in cavalry!

  • we can still remember how the germans saved our country from the russians. we are thankful of that but we did not support hitler.

  • Very interesting comment. I appreciate your candor very much. Your countrymen during WWII were impressive to say the least.

  • yep this lot was about to get the chop!!! taken for the nazi panorama news reel series right at the end of the war...

cool how the crew wear there field caps back to front , like American teenagers!!!

seems pretty flat for seelow but thats not to say it isn't

    peace

  • They wear the field caps back to front, because they could better see through the optics then...

  • that would make sense !!

but notice in the clip the only crew member using a stereo optical range finder has his field cap the right way?

but that doesn't mean your wrong

  • im sorry for my crappy english^^

i meant the optics in the tank.... for example the gunner optics!

Believe me, my Grandfather served on a Panzer IV and told me that ;)

  • yes dj i gathered that !! i think your right , by the way!!

your english is good ... (mind you thats " served in a panzer IV" unless the Panzer IV had a name then its "served on Rupert the panzer IV')

were field caps usual tank crew issue !! though technically stug crews are in the artillery huh!!

  • Mostly German StuGIII w/75mm, but the vehicles in the beginning had much shorter ordnance. Any differing names for these vehicles?

  • It's a StuH 42 (Sturmhaubitze) with a 105 mm gun - without the muzzle brake

  • Correct, but it is equipped with a 105 mm howitzer, not a gun. ;-) You could find them with and without the muzzle break.

  • Although it was named "Howitzer", I believe that technicaly it was a gun; it had a length of 28 calibres (105 L28) which is more than the maximum 25 calibre length (L25) of the "howitzer" category. However, I found it listed also as a "gun-howitzer", probably because it was used mainly as a low-velocity high-trajectory support weapon. I guess either name would be correct, although we might want to stick to the original manufacturer's "Haubitze" designation.

  • Does anybody know the music?

    THX in advance!

  • * tanks in advance !

(ohhh its xmas therefore dad jokes are around)

  • Thank you so much for this helpful comment :p

    Nevertheless I found the music.

I think it must be the soundtrack of the movie "The thin red line"

  • bueno

  • Stug sucks

  • brave guys

  • That footage was taken on the Seelow's Highs east of Berlin. It shows one of the last defensive fights against the russian army in 1945.

  • This newsreel was shot on the river Oder in March-April 1945 in preparation for a Soviet attack. In a few weeks these units will be swept away by the 1st Ukrainian Front charging for Berlin.

  • then i stand corrected. i was going by what the documentary "3rd Reich in colour" was saying about the clip

  • Seemingly, that was eqquiped with 105mm gun, instead of 75mm.

  • Slt/hi

This film made after 1942 (see a panzerfaust) on east front??

  • StuG III, StuG IV and StuH 42.

  • karl zeiss optics

  • jawohl

  • cool video, you don't see color nazi army films everyday.

  • video added to the reich group.

  • The first tank is a "Panzer IV"

  • None of them are Panzer IVs. They are a combination of StuH (Sturmhaubitze) and StuG (Sturmgeschutz)IIIs, all based on the Panzer III - check the number of road wheels and return rollers. Comparatively few StuGs were built on the Panzer IV chasis.

  • In addition to which, none of the vehicles shown have a turret, thereby eliminating the possibility of them being "tanks", but are rather, as paratrooper6 stated, Assault Guns.

  • was the lad with ear phones a dj on the decks?

  • That last one is a command Stug, check out the antenna on the engine bay deck, very nice original video!

  • that seem to be a film from the end ,..seelower höhen....arme schweine is the right description for it.

  • Sorry but they are technicly not tanks but assult guns (StuG)

  • cool

  • Haha!Forget it!

  • Wunderbar (Wonderful)

  • Wonderful!

  • nice

  • beaux stugs et en couleur!

  • arme schweine

  • jaja, mein Großvater war ein toller Mensch!

  • Ya Ya ! Deutschland uble alles in der wert! I am Chinese!

  • ja!

  • ???I don't quait understand your words!

  • how many langs do u speak

  • I am a Chinese! I konw a little German and English! I'm proud of being a NSMer ! Pay respects to our fuhrer ! Fight for victory ! Heil Hitler! Sieg Heil!

  • oO ?

  • Hm, soweit ich weiß ist damit das Ideal der deutschen Einheit gemeint, da Deutschland damals in dutzende ziemlich unabhängige Fürstentümer zersplittert war.
