I should give it a try if I were you -- it went free to play last fall, so you can see for yourself. Lotro, as it was some four years back, is very different from the game as it is today. It has both beautiful graphics as well as a good gameplay. The only downside I have currently experienced is that character models are rather mundane. But there are a lot of nice cosmetics, so you can individualize your character by utilizing the alternatives.
well... in compparison of wow to lotro. graphics lotro. difficulity wow, teamplay wow , mechanics wow, pvp ( i dont know both games got well made pvp ) , lore 100% lotro. (wow also has a great lore, but blizz never told it 2 us.)
@goozieFALK That's because LOTRO isn't based on the movies. It's based on the books. The movies are great, but they didn't show half of what happens in the books, which is a shame. But LOTRO really captured the LOTR story and that's why it's great, IMO.
@Aronys i really wanted to see the rebellion in Shire when i finished reading i was so sad once the movie finished without it!And also some things were changed in the movie!For example:Merry didnt go to the attack on Mordor !And i dont think that Faramir took the hobbits back to Gondor, but im not so sure on this one!
@gluttony32 With LOTRO there is actually small hints of the Scouring of the Shire. You just need to be aware of the clues. E.G "Trouble in tuckoborough" (the campaign on the smials) and in most solo player skirmishes there is the constant reference "Sharkey".

@ecomensurado They turned free to convince more people to come to LoTRO. I know I was considering WoW, but then I heard that LoTRO was F2P, and I absolutely love LoTR... so I went there. =]
I am not joking or anything else than totally sure when I say this, Lotro is and will be the best mmo of all time. It is just simply the most fun game I have ever played.
@sneaksmasher Nowdays the 2 Expansions are free aswell as far as the story quests go, you still have to buy the quest packs for everything else but you can enter Mirkwood, Moria and Lothlorien and do the story quests
@omensog666 i guess you went to the european version of lotr.com but if you look in the right topcorner you should see a bunch of flags. clikc on the american flag and the full version should view itself for download
I'm gonna resubscribe when the F2P will kick in (Yes I'm gonna be a VIP member) I think that the F2P option will bring a lot of new players into the game, and that's a good thing, since the starter zones are quite empty now, but end-game still got LOADS of people. @goozieFALK I would say rune keepers are very fun,not like a lock its sort of a one of a kind class,there really is nothing like a lock,but lore master is a pet class and can use some pretty cool looking spells,probably the cosest thing you will get to a lock.

@goozieFALK I played HARDCORE with 7 characters so that means I reached level 10 and level 8 with a man captain and lower levels with 9other chars my main was a Elf Guardian.

Lotro Owns Wow big times! Wow is cool as the good and evil side play story but i really h8 the graphics and clothing and such :( Lotros wepons/cloths are more reality made then wow;s in big ways wow;s amor and wepons and charachters look like crap and so childish :( And the sorounding of Wow is all teh same -.- every house is the same house on diffrent angels... just comon how hard could it be to have som fantasy with this and make it look better...?
I was able to understand what he said. Let me summarize.. WoW has Horde/Alliance in its favor, but the graphics and armor are outdated/childish/cartoony,etc. The world has been done too many times over, buildings/caves/environments all feel the same, as they are often the same model as a previous house/cave/whatever. Therefore, he asks why not play Lotro which has that fantasy aspect to it, with sharper, more detailed and fresher environments as well?! ^_^

@Celamn I agree, you can end up looking like a space teletubby on WoW, and weapons look ridiculous. Atleast with Lotro you have an appearance tab so you can still level up with what you want to wear, if you hate the looks of an item you can change it to something that you like, and also dye your armour to make you unique, you just end up looking like clones in WoW :l

Sorry but WoWs graphics on high are really good. Idk wtf ur talking bout. They arent cut up like these. these look like blank models that got skins flattened over them. Faces dont have any elevation for instance. They look like 2D skins on 3d bodies. It's ugly in my honest opinion. And i have a right to think it!

@Agomongo1235 - what profession im not sure depends what your into im a cook,farmer and tailor lvling up wise i had trouble with that but do what i did and go to higheer up areas and do quest and kill ememys that lvl you up in no time

mirkwood was more like a free update,,too many bosses look the same :S,im disapointed ,if they dont focus on pvp they should focus on instances ..the instances in mirkwood are really boring ,,and u have to do them many times to get radiance gear ..also :hard to find grps,no raids in the pvp area,there is only 1 new mob in mirkwood (a spider) ... nah going for aoc,might come back if they doing a new expansion

I played WoW for years, then I bought the collectors edition of LOTRO, and I absoloutly love it. The world is far more vast, the graphics superior to WoW, and for hardcore LOTR fans, and people who have not played the game at all, it is a must buy in my opionon.

I played GW and in the end hated it. I played LOTRO and fell in love. WoW and LOTRO cannot be compared, because they are 2 different games, but LOTRO is worth getting, as it is better than WoW in my opinion.

Now If you could have a game with the customisation avaliable in APB, the story depth of lotro, the soundtrack quality of age of conan and good gameplay then that would be very nice.. I was excited when I heard about the new star wars mmo that's coming out and had such high hopes for it, but then I saw some previews and I'm not so excited anymore :S
Was I anywhere saying that I was comparing it to wow? Wow's graphics are horrible.. I most recently come from Aion(which only has a pretty graphic shell and not much content).. and while I understand that lotro is alot older the texturing/colours/atmospherics is still quite bad in some places. not to mention the lack of models.. On the other hand lotro has alot of other things going for it like a deeper storyline and the lack of "ZOMG I R IMBA" mentality of some mmo's..

The Lord of The Rings Online is not going free, itself.
It will just have three option's to play, Free-Premium-Membership.
"Free" is as unlimited time "Free Trial", but so optionally/regionally limited, it is not for the ones who want to play the games serious, understand.
In "Premium" you buy things(options) what you want, but it is also limited.
While if you pay normally, as always(if you're regular player), nothing will change, except points who you'll get. So, Lotro is not free to play!

@goozieFALK I would say rune keepers are very fun,not like a lock its sort of a one of a kind class,there really is nothing like a lock,but lore master is a pet class and can use some pretty cool looking spells,probably the cosest thing you will get to a lock.

@goozieFALK LOTRO just gets better and better man,i lvled two 80's on wow and i just got bored i stoped when t9 came out out along with some friends,but anyways lotro didnt feel like a chore unlike wow,i didnt feel like i had to quest to level i wanted to quest and level,lotro feels more alive,so just keep playing man it gets better and better.ps.firefoot for life!

Lotro Owns Wow big times! Wow is cool as the good and evil side play story but i really h8 the graphics and clothing and such :( Lotros wepons/cloths are more reality made then wow;s in big ways wow;s amor and wepons and charachters look like crap and so childish :( And the sorounding of Wow is all teh same -.- every house is the same house on diffrent angels... just comon how hard could it be to have som fantasy with this and make it look better...?

I was able to understand what he said. Let me summarize.. WoW has Horde/Alliance in its favor, but the graphics and armor are outdated/childish/cartoony,etc. The world has been done too many times over, buildings/caves/environments all feel the same, as they are often the same model as a previous house/cave/whatever. Therefore, he asks why not play Lotro which has that fantasy aspect to it, with sharper, more detailed and fresher environments as well?! ^_^

@Celamn I agree, you can end up looking like a space teletubby on WoW, and weapons look ridiculous. Atleast with Lotro you have an appearance tab so you can still level up with what you want to wear, if you hate the looks of an item you can change it to something that you like, and also dye your armour to make you unique, you just end up looking like clones in WoW :l

@Celamn World Of Warcraft is a totaly fantasy game, almost everything in it is fantasy, Orcs,Elfs, Undeads, worgens, they couldn't ruin the game with realistic gears,they choosed to make the world look verry fancy,you just can't ruin such a good fantasy game,with realistic gears.Graphics is not the point of wow,if I want to play a game with realistic graphics,then I play a RPG one,not a MMORPG (better graphics would ruin the servers,too many people)

Sorry but WoWs graphics on high are really good. Idk wtf ur talking bout. They arent cut up like these. these look like blank models that got skins flattened over them. Faces dont have any elevation for instance. They look like 2D skins on 3d bodies. It's ugly in my honest opinion. And i have a right to think it!

mirkwood was more like a free update,,too many bosses look the same :S,im disapointed ,if they dont focus on pvp they should focus on instances ..the instances in mirkwood are really boring ,,and u have to do them many times to get radiance gear ..also :hard to find grps,no raids in the pvp area,there is only 1 new mob in mirkwood (a spider) ... nah going for aoc,might come back if they doing a new expansion

It is one of the best games, if not the best after my opnion, could use more players tho you feel a bit alone
But it really is one of the best games, i've tried alot and played lots of games and this is sure a 9.5/10 and well just because of all the.. childish wow players i can say that i've played wow since 06 and i would give wow a 5.5/10 and lotro 9.5/10

It's not free (discounting the free trial). It's $15 monthly or $10 every 3 months or $199 lifetime. You can get the game retail or just go to the LOTRO website and download the client.

I played WoW for years, then I bought the collectors edition of LOTRO, and I absoloutly love it. The world is far more vast, the graphics superior to WoW, and for hardcore LOTR fans, and people who have not played the game at all, it is a must buy in my opionon.

in lotro you play then you see a player you talk and goin to do some quests then you meet 2 more players add them in the fellowship and then you got a real feeling that you are in the game/book its then so much fun and look at the mobs the are beautiful (im not a orc lover :D )

I played GW and in the end hated it. I played LOTRO and fell in love. WoW and LOTRO cannot be compared, because they are 2 different games, but LOTRO is worth getting, as it is better than WoW in my opinion.

Now If you could have a game with the customisation avaliable in APB, the story depth of lotro, the soundtrack quality of age of conan and good gameplay then that would be very nice.. I was excited when I heard about the new star wars mmo that's coming out and had such high hopes for it, but then I saw some previews and I'm not so excited anymore :S

Was I anywhere saying that I was comparing it to wow? Wow's graphics are horrible.. I most recently come from Aion(which only has a pretty graphic shell and not much content).. and while I understand that lotro is alot older the texturing/colours/atmospherics is still quite bad in some places. not to mention the lack of models.. On the other hand lotro has alot of other things going for it like a deeper storyline and the lack of "ZOMG I R IMBA" mentality of some mmo's..
