Many memories are bounded to this sad and tender song. One of the few female vocalist I truly appreciate. For the video I would have chosen a different text color, that bright yellow is a bit annoying. All considering you have done a good job, thanks for sharing :)
Possibly the best doom metal band ever. These Norwegians are still a head above of any traditional doom\death-doom\whatever-doom band in terms of instrumental technicality and songwriting skills. Even their electronic\trip-hop albums are just nothing but amazing.
This band does not get enough recognition for the huge influence it has had on the "gothic metal" scene. In old magazines you will see Nightwish listing it as an influence. I believe that The Gathering was also influenced by them? Best band ever.
It started promisingly - The combination of 40,000 overpowering watts of the Gratefull Dead and Kari's angelic voice is a great notion. BUT it then goes astray. It gets very winey around 3.22 with a scratchy sounding guitar lead with what appears to be a Norwegian Troll lumbering blindly through it and there are some other dreadful sounds towards the end (as at 4.00 and 5.20). Basically there is too muxh band and not enough Kari.
@daylightghost2009 I take your point. My only surprise is that it has taken two months for this response to come! However, as I am an 'idiot' you wont want to be my 'friend' will you? I will concede though that the bits from 0.44-.18, 1.56-2.28, and 4.14 -4.52 with Kari singing are fabulous! She is outta this world! And I concede I may have been overly harsh. But it is the dodgy choice of guitar & synthesiser sounds in the section from 3.20 - 4.14 and from 4.50 -end which lets it down for me.
@jezkn Ok, i admit i behaved like an youtube idiot. The thing about this song is that it covers so many things. I utterly agree Kari shines all the way through but i disagree about the instrumental parte beside a little bit at the end 3:52. 3:20 is amazing guitarwise, the guitar is transmiting feeling, and the bass is covering it all over the place with focus.
@daylightghost2009 No I fully understand-I would be exactly the same if you criticised a favourite of mine. But you've caused me to listen, reassess and 'open my eyes & ears'! The drumming's great -the melancholy feel is growing on me (typically Norwegian maybe?) and I like fuzz guitar lead from 2.48. I'm still struggling with synthesiser lead at 3.20 & 4.50 but then I was a synthesiser player so maybe I'm jealous? I LOVE best the contrast between Kari's sweet voice and the bleak sound-scape
@daylightghost2009 I thought about withdrawing my initial comment which was a bit hasty I admit but I've left it cos then people can see how with a little help from others - people can be helped to change their minds and not be so blinkered. This should be the STRENGTH of YouTube (to be educated by others). - but more often than not we start a pointless slanging match don't we? Is this a First I wonder !! We've cut the commotion and we're letting it breathe!
@jezkn Really awesome to know we can actually talk with someone in youtube. Thank you so much for being so educated and easy to talk to. You should also definitely check Omnio from In the Woods... i would suggest you to start with weeping willow on youtube, then from there onward.
this is such a beautiful song! hey, pls check out our band, we are still on the process of figuring the right tune for creating an ambient type of music.. just type, "jam experiment video file 3 (feb 2, 2010)" .. you can also check our past videos on my account.. leave a comment, thanks!
This album is one the best metal/rock albums ever and this song is the best of the album. Talks about what a melancholic soul seeks in love... maybe not an easy listen for everyone
Beautiful and an evidence they influenced a lot of bands (here's for example the lead riff theme is 100 % a pre-Flowing Tears or Katatonia - 2 bands I like a lot- one).
The purest form of this band (and maybe for this genre? ProgressiveDoom? )me resides in the two first LPs and in the Sorrow EP .
there's also another amazing prog doom band called Decoryah, you should check them too. by the way, the style of these bands remind me of King Crimson, specially their Islands album
this album shows that they were more then the sum of their parts.after the singer and the rest of the band parted ways i do not think they ever reached such a heights again.
so beautiful
