@atctnt Dont know how familiar you are with this song, but originally done back in 50's or 60's by Bobby Fuller 4. Dead Kennedy's did their own version with "I fought the Law & I Won". Clash & Stray Cats probably sticking to original rock n roll roots. If you already knew this then just disregard the reply. No disrespect intended. Cheers
No, if you look closely there are alot of other flags in the background too. The Clash had a lot of flags as there backdrop as a way of saying that multiculture is a good thing.
actually, punk started in the 60`s, in USA, with bands like Velvet Underground, The Stooges, and MC5... and in the early 70`s band like Patti Smith Group, Blondie, and The Ramones came... Then some bands got inspired by The Ramones etc. and those band was The Sex Pistols, and The Clash among others.... but when we talk about Metal, you can pin point 2 band that "started" this in the late 60`s, and both bands started up in 1968, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. so both bands are from England.
ramones yea they were around before punk but they were more power pop rock then and sex pistols are more suited as the first punk band in the uk but there were protopunk band such as iggy pop you could note for the start of the punk error
I know, we established this fact. Old fashion metal is along the lines of Metallica from the 70s era of metal, along with some other hard rock, and of course Steppenwolf who invented Heavy Metal.
Punk was a completely different movement that began with bands like The Clash and the Sex Pistols in Europe. Punk is totally distguishable from metal, as metal is more American, in my opinion (I'm sure someone can argue) and punk is completely different.

This is what it's all about ladies and gents. Rock and Roll is real. This performance is perhaps the finest I've seen in the pantheon of Rock music.

Very true but metal also originated in Britain.

True. Them and Deep Purple, who also are british. But the first to use the term "heavy metal" was Steppenwolf which is Canadian.
In the end though, The Clash is clearly a punk band.
