  • Is the wenger main blade ground on both sides or just one like the trekker?

  • @pblount007 it is ground on both sides. it is a traditional V grind, not a chisel grind.

  • I don't agree with your comments on the victorinox can opener. It is designed to be used clockwise, if you are right handed. All the vic can openers work much better that way..

  • I prefer the trekker personaly, with the straight edge, even the OHT is pushing it on size, the ranger is a nice knife just too big. Sick video.

  • Thank you for this comparison review!

  • I own the Trekker plain edge and love it... but I still have a few minor gripes with it (mainly, I HATE the 'backwards' blade lock, and for some reason I can open it twice as fast left-handed). That Ranger looks gorgeous, though, especially with that grip, and I'm VERY tempted to track one down if only for the better lock system. I've never owned a Wenger (but lots of Victorinox) but that Ranger blade looks quite a bit "nicer" too. I'd miss the locking pry-driver and tweezers though.

  • @BanjoOz traitor.

  • I had just received a plain edged Trekker, when I saw this comparison/review ... This is a VERY cogent and detailed and accurate and comprehensive review ! ... On the basis of this review, I ordered the SAME RANGER model as appears in this review. I am in TOTAL agreement, with this reviewer, on ALL observations and conclusions. The Ranger provides more span and is more robust with MUCH better ergos. My 18 year old daughter now owns the Trekker and the Wenger rides in my BDU cargo pocket - EDC

  • I prefer the Victorinox due to size, weight, tweezers and the small screwdriver. though I have to admit that their locking mechanism is messed up.

  • The reason why Victorinox has a blocker inside is to not push it by accident like it may happend using Wenger. Also it's a pity that the reviewer did not mention anything about the types of the blades - maybe kind of test and check which is better for what kind of materials?

  • @aquapoolko there is no "blocker" on the OHT, and the tester mention the blade types. watch the video next time before posting. thanks.

  • @V6outdoors Blocker, locker, lock machanism-it doesn't matter-everybody knows what's about. Also Indeed You mentioned about blades, but as You wrote-"mentioned".And what are the differences regarding cutting various materials?I guess there must be any if producer decided to use serration. In my opinion serration blades might be better cutting i.e.belts or large surface materials. In contrast the plain blade is better when we need accurate, exact cut .Thanks.

  • @aquapoolko so you mean the liner itself (sorry seams to be a language barrier prob) the one on the OHT would actually more prone to accidental operation due to the direction it travels (opposite in theory of firm grip securing a framelock for example).

for cutting things... i mention zip ties because i assume the cutting uses between a serrated and plain edge blade are fairly obvious. if you cut rope and boxes and such- serrated is fine. if you do finer cutting a plain edge is preffered

  • @V6outdoors No, I ment that the functionality of locker mechanism in OHT and Ranger is more less the same.In my opinion it's not so important how fast we can close the knife like opening it.The more important is safety in this case.

  • Is the 78 basically the same as the 179?

  • @VetroitProductions pretty close, only difference is the color and the 179 has a corkscrew where the 78 has a phillips screwdriver.

  • Which one is sharper in factory design?

  • I salute you victorinox for giving us lefties the time to shine :D

  • I wonder if the lock isn't too accessible and too easy to access ? Is it safe?

  • @chibraxial it takes a deep press to disengage the lock, i have no fear of accidently releasing it.

  • cool

  • Great comparison! Really liked it, I'm kind of biased because I love Wengers,But the Vic does have a lot of pros, congrats on the great review and take care!!

  • Asides from the corny opening and fairy music, excellent video. I am now definitely sold on the Ranger 78.

  • my friend can flick open his wenger ranger easily. me, not so much as i have small weak fingers. id sooner buy the wenger over the victorinox mainly because of the size; however i am a leftie, and do i find it easier to open the victorinox

  • @halorulesyourface go lefties! cox i'm a leftie

  • looool. he has voice like robert downey jr. :]

  • Good video. Great info. I have the trekker and it is my favorite EDC blade. I can see the Ranger as a great hiking/camping/backup survival folder. I checked the Ranger out at a store and was surprised at how much bulkier it feels than the trekker. That's why I don't think I'd EDC it over my trekker--takes up a lot of room in my pocket. However in a camping/hiking/survival situation that bigger handle would be nice as well as the bigger knife and saw blade.

  • Its pronounced vegner not winger.

  • @LedZeppelin13k7 i dont say folksvagen either.

  • @LedZeppelin13k7 no actually it isn't. it's pronounced wanger. talk to someone from switzerland that works at the factory and you'll know your facts.

  • Thankyou for a great review, very fair minded and lots of facts. It has helped me make my choice and it will be the Trekker. As a leftie I love the liner lock made for we of the minority (at last), I've also found a version with plain edge blade so happy with that. This will live in my backback as a "just in case" item.

  • Great comparison vid!

  • I have the Ranger, and I wish it had a clip on it. Its definitely too large for carrying in my pocket. I leave mine in the pickup and have found it to be very useful. I've got a video on my channel comparing a Wenger EVO to a Victorinox Supertinker - I drew most of the same conclusions you did. Nice review, sir.

  • @MrDillClinton they make a Ranger with a clip (always nice to find out AFTER youve made your purchase!)

  • Take some liquid buffing compound at a grit just enough you can feel with your fingers, put some in the hinge/pivot and spend an hour working the blade open and closed. You can get rid of that stiffness.

  • @bamboo4tameshigiri its not the pivot preventing these from flipping open, its the friction caused by the retention springs on the back exerting constant pressure on the blades.

  • @V6outdoors Ahh. OK. N/M. Just use the hell out of it and break it in.

  • great vid. Love the side by side. Makes me want to get a new knife lol

  • I'll take it!

  • @czxxx winner winner chicken dinner!
