We don't have to "fight against" pop. Pop is indestructible anyway. If metal becomes popular like you suggest it will become digested and regurgitated by the pop labels. In fact, many metal bands have already become a part of that process, like Attack Attack, and Pierce the Veil.  You can't force people to like something they don't like, and don't want to like.

All one can do is make and/or listen to metal that meets their own standards of what metal should be.
