  • Fantastic!!!

  • The juxtaposition of the motionless singer with her dancing bandmates is quirky. love it.

  • @lilc1 what the hell r u talking about? I've never seen a more ridiculous performance in my life. couldn't even sing in key. is this the "psychedelic reality" you refer to? Try Jimi instead.

  • chick on the left is stoned... Love the song, just sayin

  • Hey look, it's Cagney & Lacey... and Jim from Taxi.

  • Catchy tune, dynamic and enigmatic performance. Who could ask for more?

  • Just how baked is that chick in the green outfit, LOL?!

  • @mjg032 I read somewhere that she has a condition, just don't remember what.

  • The woman in the centre is Eleanor Barooshian NOT Chelsea Lee as stated in the description.

  • @drum2000 - fixed

  • @drum2000

Eleanor Barooshian performed under the name Chelsea Lee.

  • Great stuff, slightly disturbing which is the way it should be. Punk psychedelic hippy soul.

  • this band is a lie.

  • @egalubmass-of shit!

    Go fuck yourself!

  • what did they smoke before performing, this is good.

  • good one poptopia! lmao : )

  • i can see why she just stood there...i would be ashamed to do those dance moves too!

  • The 1st emo chick …love it !!!!

  • @ecnalubma696969 ....what are you on the rag about you 42 yeard old basement dweller?

  • @418sadeyes the girl is clearly VERYstoned, or tripping her acid head off. Or both.

  • so what if she is stoned you boring cunt,, go and listen to safe coldplay and u2 you dork,,

  • lets face it, this has more value that the fucking spice girls, girls aloud shit and moggadonna crap,,, at least these chciks offered something original and slept with Jimi Hendrix !!!

  • Ok, what is the one in green suppose to be?? Not being cute, I'm just trying to figure this out!!

  • Remember reading about Jeanette Jacobs in a couple of Hendrix biographies, she was one of his birds for a while. Sad to read recently she died young in the early eighties. This record's quite interesting. Kind of psychedelic Spector.

  • :( thought it was CAKE the good band

  • @Angelsven- Dallas?? You were there?? The Miss America Pageant Show when they wouldn't let these girls perform cuz they didn't wear bras?? Too f'n much!!

  • these girls have my admiration for supporting their friend like they did,

  • I would say the woman on the left has been given drugs by a psychiatrist that made her catatonic.

  • Brill tune and video

  • ここで初めて彼女達の存在を知りました。衝撃的です。ちなみにどうして他の二人は唄って踊っているのに、緑色の女の子は無表情で突っ立ったまんまなのでしょうか?とっても気になります。

  • @69logico nice!

  • middle girl sure looks like joey heatherton

  • @elreydecaracas- the girl had drug issues, both prescribed and otherwise. She died around 30 years ago. On stage here she just is not there! in body, yes, lookin good, but in mind? errr ...

  • @yahood66 Errr? LOL Shit.

  • @yahood66 Moron.

  • @georgethedj- Roy Hamilton, that's right. But this was a pretty pathetic attempt, especially when you listen to Dionne Warwick's version a couple of years earlier. You can tell this was 67 in more ways than one.

  • @yahood66 You failed. Next....

  • dude the one on the left is hot

  • i'd like to have my cake and eat it

  • OMG! I have never heard of them. They look like JoAnne Worley, Joey Heatherton and Peggy Moffit.

  • @kgmaj They DO! Another "girl group" from the late 60s was The Paper Dolls, who had a hit with "Something Here in My Heart"

  • Roy Hamilton had a hit with this song in December 1961. Of course, for him it was "You Can Have Her".

  • fantastic real true music

  • omg, i thought i was the only person in the world who remembered this group. i was at 6 flags outside of dallas and these 3 girls were there, all freaky looking, & someone said "that's the band Cake." they actually had an impact on me because i think it was the first time i had seen artsy clothing. i especially remember the redhead. her hair, in the back by her neck, was parted down the middle and held to each side by bobbie pins. weird, i thought. then i went to elementary school that way!

  • They have to work it harder because she isn't doing her bit.

  • @PaulJD2006 You're another moron.

  • it's almost hilarious

  • Man, that chick on the left is a real DYNAMO!

wonder what happened....they had a great single out, I think it was Baby It's Me?

  • The chick in green is on some serious drugs

  • btw, the video is not funny, it was reality in 1967...it's drama, it's psychedelic, it was the reality..if you say it's funny you don't understand what it is about.

  • @lilic1 It was so funny, reality can be funny. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're a sad cat. The old say, "the things we did back then.." really applies here. I would hardly walk waring colthes that I thought were cool then, now!

  • @lilic1 ....why so serious??? This vid is damn funny!

  • @lilic1 With OWS we're moving back to a type of consciousness that could bring this about in our current cultural setting, so I do understand the point--I might add though, although I do agree these young women were creating drama, they were also at the same time trying to be ironic--a poke at the girl groups that peaked a few years earlier.

  • The one at left is doing sophisticated boom-boom.

  • i heard about Cake many years back but never took the trouble to check them out at the time. After seeing this and the 'Mockingbird' clip I have to say that their reputation is richly deserved. For a bunch of white chicks they did alright. Like other people I'm intrigued by the funky dancing in these clips, but more than that I wonder why the dolly one doesn't dance? Did she have some kind of disability or something or was she just not into dancing? Anyone know?

  • @elreydecaracas 'A bunch of white chicks' Dude, THINK before you talk....

  • Phil Spector style, POP ART

  • I don't need today's shining, unrealistic shows with crap music, I just need three ladies who sing in an amazing way, who dance in a super sixties way. And I need a performance where one of them does nothing, just stands there, look at Jeanette's face, amazing! Here is more drama than in any other spectacular giga show! Superb performance, that's what I call music, that's what I call singing. Thank you girls!

  • 1) It was intentionally funny.

    2) The Beavers? and Link Wray...and Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin, Sid Caesar and Steve Allen, Bilko, .. "to the Moon, Alice!"....Dobie Gillis...The Trashmen....

a lot came before this band, Cake....this had nothing to do with Charles Manson....

these girls are not hippies, anyway....they all wore crazy and colorful clothes and "long hair"

Get a spider drunk and see if it even spins a web,,,,

  • @luckyshow Some clueless newbie can't tell the difference between a hippie and them? Y'know, they (the Cake) thought of Jefferson Airplane as old and preachy (remember, the members of the Cake were all teenagers) and Grace was nearing her 30s.

  • they sing very good..the danciing is kind of weird..the 60's was a strange time. Like this song though. I thought the blond was Eleanor Barooshian , I could be wrong but not sure.

  • ULTRA COOL

  • This is really great - love it

  • in 60s i believe it was called doing your own thing

  • I love this band!

  • They were all so beautiful...

  • holy shit this is amazing!

  • cool, they're dressed like illustrated models on a Simplicity pattern

  • @ItsybitsyspiderMamma so true!!!!

  • sooooo, I guess she's meaning to just stand there?

  • Two of these girls ended up in Ginger Bakers Air force. Jeanette and Eleanor

  • a spiders web on mescaline is totally chaotic. this vid has a stage prop right out of star trek- the mixture of moody blues classical orchestration - right into vox reverb phil spector like backing long slow rhythm, to skate to. a brief look at 60's freedom to ride till the wheels fall off.

  • Ha- unlikely I'm giving false info on my own group, idiot!

  • Not too many people remember this group called "The Cake." I always liked them but was mesmerized by the girl with stage fright who never moved. The Cake are a 60s girl group made up of Jeanette Jacobs, Barbara Morillo and Eleanor Barooshian.

When I first saw this group as a child, all I could think was "Wow, Joey Heatherton and Jo Anne Worley do all the work while Judy Geeson just stands there.

  • @PLFields1111 That isn't stage fright.

  • @Thopter The web is relatively normal - a spider on caffine is another matter.

  • yes, anyway i love asimetric webs .

  • @Thopter

     Reptile.

  • @Thopter Um...this is creepy in 2010? Have you been asleep for the past 40 yrs? The decade from the early 60's to the early 70's were probably the most creative ( throughout the world) in film, music, art and fashion. Things that you take for granted as normal now (that you even own) were influenced by creative thinkers (yes many on LSD) like these. GO BACK TO YOUR TEA BAGGERS

  • @joscofe

    kiss off

  • @Thopter Creative response!

  • @Thopter who is this. that chick in the green looks like a manson reject

  • @sierria64 Ha...weak.

  • Worst performance ever =)

    Everybody watch this.

  • charlie manson came out of prison and found all the chicks were like this.

  • @cshargeit Uh, yeah, newborn.

  • She wasn't stoned- she was scared!

  • @pembridgegardens Ha ha ha, you're giving false information there.

  • that first girl looks so stoned...

  • I think this is better than the Dusty Springfield version.

  • awesome.

  • brilliant!

  • Comment removed

  • hi everybody im not sure but i think one of these girls had a thing with jimi hendrix? is this true?

  • Yes, jeanette did.

  • @hardkace42 Yes, Jeanette Jacobs - the girl in green - had a thing with Hendrix.

  • @lilic1 And she's fine looking too. African-American, Greek heritage from Queens, NYC.

  • Wow, Joey Heatherton and Jo Anne Worley had to do all the work while Judy Geeson just stands there.

  • @PLFields1111 LOL!!! Exactly! I love the way they go into a spasm in between the verses!

  • "Baby That's Me" used to be on here- is it still on You Tube? i'm having a hard time finding it

  • Why was this on E! ? What show is it from ?

  • This originally aired on the Smothers Brothers Show.

  • the girl in the green is the prettiest and althoyggh she isn't moving i am most endeared by her young death

  • This is brilliant! Very funny!!! Very cool!

  • What's up with the lady in the green?

  • This video ROCKS!!! Do some serious Quay and it's AMAZING!!!

  • So why didn't the more recent band Cake ever get sued for using their name?

  • because it's Cake not the cake

  • here here keityk! also to caprice: before you slag off something you probably should know what you are talking about. these 3 were also good friends with kevin ayers and the soft machine. providing backing vocals for soft machine and inspiring kevin to write a track on his first solo lp, eleanors cake.

  • This is trippy. I like the one on the left in a catatonic state;>

  • Some folks just can't dance! LOL

  • For an antidote, check out the vid of Joey Heatherton on the Tonight Show 1964 doing the Froog, the Slop and the Watusi....

  • .. wow! .. the one one the left in green is *definitely* catatonic. .. .. woah .. depressed respiratory response breeds concern for her, um, well-being.

  • She's stoned...

  • i didn't know this was a remake and i was able to finally find the lyrics..i like how the other 2 members skated across the floor at 2:20...lol..i'll confess, i tried to skate across the floor in the kitchen:)

  • There is a video a b&w one of maryanne faithfull where she sings but almost motionlessly with a vacant shell shocked look on her face. Maybe it was some 60s thing we dont know about?

  • @Tetley007 Marianne Faithful said her problem was stage fright, but Dusty Springfield does a Way better version of this song, it's here on youtube. The chick in the green wouldn't have staggered if she'd waited for the damn stage to stop revolving before she moved forward. There was plenty of time for her to get to her mark before the vocals started. amateur.

  • @Tetley007 - A lot of drugs psychiatrists gave to young people back then made them catatonic. It was terrible.

  • LOL looks like drama went down back stage

  • I love the way the girl in green moves...it´s so exstatic and wild ...smile

    seriously ...totally shit !

  • They are three terrifying white chicks?

  • That girl in green, who just stands there. Is this a part of the act?

  • The girl in green looks like she shell shocked. Other girls should have tried to help her. terrible group. clothes interesting and their weird hair.

  • I think her standing there, looking shell shocked is part of the act - she does a similar thing in their "Mockingbird" video if you look.

  • dont tell me they were allowed to make another one after this mince.

  • To Caprice- the still one was on epilepsy medication apparently, and she died young. These girls knew the hippest, coolest people in the business- a certain guitarist called Jimi for one example. They were respected because the hip ones knew they weren't playing it entirely straight- Lot more to them than meets the eye. With just a little depth, we can see there are more interesting undercurrents in life than the kinds of success bearing the stamp of mass approval

  • @keltyk I agree, because I too had a knee jerk reaction but with a little research, I did a complete 360 about face. I love The Cake :)

  • @keltyk I was about to write a smart ass comment about the "still" one. I'm glad I didn't.

  • @StanBennet

I'm glad you didn't either. I had the honor of speaking to Eleanor (the blonde) through Myspace, some time ago. The love these girls felt for their band mate, despite that she was epileptic and really COULD NOT perform, but didn't try to kick her out or anything? Yeah. I've seen her get rather violent towards people for dissing Jeanette.

If you want a bit of a treat, find the video of Eleanor and Tiny Tim singing "I got you Babe". It's kinda weird. :p

  • @nandabun Gosh, I'm really sorry...I couldn't figure out what was going on...Poor girl..But you're right...I'm glad her band-mates supported her.

  • I just love these girls. Great. Great post!

  • Funny and ice cool are a touch combination to pull off. The Cake certainly did here. Great song!

  • this is the best music ever!

  • I'll take "Cake" over the "The Cake" any day. I just got my eyes and ears raped by this video.

  • I like this song as much as the #8...Long live number 8! Ride the rails and cut the trails. It all leads to this song

  • ya except emo music sounds like fucking shit

in the worst meaning of the word shit

  • Man, it's like Emo from the 60s

  • I highly recommend that everyone get the 45 of this track. It's a little longer, and sounds great. It's a tad pricey at around $10. But, it is a collector's item. Decca label.

  • Or get the recently released compilation CD from Amazon.

  • Good to know. I hope it's the mono mix of this song. The stereo version from the lp is a little weak.

  • this is the coolest thing ever... you can tell it was really *hip* at the time. i love the way they dance at every break...

  • Why isn't that girl moving? *lol* what's wrong with her? She got her lip poked out...

  • hahahhahaha

  • For some reason, the first time that I watched this I was not that into it. But upon repeat views, it was amazing!

  • Im with you. At first I thought it was trippy weird. And now I find myself watching it over and over.

  • I know, it's just mezmerizing!!

  • Can you believe Im watching it again?

  • Comment removed

  • whats wrong with 2:42 ???

  • Nothing. I just love it how they meet up with thier mics .

  • O ok

  • Comment removed

  • I love everything about this performance.

  • I love this! It's perfect.

  • grief ...the dancing rofl

probably the one in the green had the sense to think I am not doing those dumb moves-she just looks like shes thinking "this is humiliating"

  • jeanette is totally pist off cause she almost fell in the very beginning.

  • This is a joke, isn't it?

  • Jimi helped jeanette put together there second record...'Another slice of cake' It just sat there

  • For anyone interested . . . This is a cover of a song done by the Righteous Brothers on the Moonglow label, before they got connected with Phil Spector. The Righteous Brothers didn't write it; I don't know who did the original.

  • This was a hit for Roy Hamilton (as You can Have Her), written by William/Bill Cook. My fave is Dionne Warwick's version with a great Bacharach arrangement.

  • Yeah, Roy Hamilton. I knew I'd heard another version. Didn't Hamilton do "Don't Let Go"? Another cool song. Back to the Cake: Anyone who likes this has GOT to hear "Baby That's Me" -- the Cake's masterpiece. Hearing that song is like being in heaven. It's on YouTube. Search for: Cake Baby That's Me.

  • Jeanette Jacobs had an unusual relationship with Jimi Hendrix. Anyone know about this?

  • Yeah she was a girl

  • @BColeKid They were boyfriend and girlfriend. Jeanette is my aunt.

  • ok, this is my first look at these girls, what's "unintentionally funny" about it? i love quirky stuff, plus these girls are hot! the girl on left only accents the cool moves of the girls on the right. pretty cool, must know more.

  • Did you find out what you wanted to know? I did some research on my own, would like to get in contact and discuss The Cake, if you'd want. :D

    Still love these girls, too..

  • oh my so cute-this is the first piece of footage i have seen of them! Thanks for posting!

  • Notice Jeanette stagger, just after they disembark. Who's idea was it to spin them round on their first TV appearance?
