Actually, either name is correct - at that time she was going by "Eleanor Barooshian" but later switched to "Chelsea Lee". Same person, just different stage names.
lets face it, this has more value that the fucking spice girls, girls aloud shit and moggadonna crap,,, at least these chciks offered something original and slept with Jimi Hendrix !!!
Remember reading about Jeanette Jacobs in a couple of Hendrix biographies, she was one of his birds for a while. Sad to read recently she died young in the early eighties. This record's quite interesting. Kind of psychedelic Spector.
@Angelsven- Dallas?? You were there?? The Miss America Pageant Show when they wouldn't let these girls perform cuz they didn't wear bras?? Too f'n much!!
@elreydecaracas- the girl had drug issues, both prescribed and otherwise. She died around 30 years ago. On stage here she just is not there! in body, yes, lookin good, but in mind? errr ...
@georgethedj- Roy Hamilton, that's right. But this was a pretty pathetic attempt, especially when you listen to Dionne Warwick's version a couple of years earlier. You can tell this was 67 in more ways than one.
omg, i thought i was the only person in the world who remembered this group. i was at 6 flags outside of dallas and these 3 girls were there, all freaky looking, & someone said "that's the band Cake." they actually had an impact on me because i think it was the first time i had seen artsy clothing. i especially remember the redhead. her hair, in the back by her neck, was parted down the middle and held to each side by bobbie pins. weird, i thought. then i went to elementary school that way!
btw, the video is not funny, it was reality in 1967...it's drama, it's psychedelic, it was the reality..if you say it's funny you don't understand what it is about.
@lilic1 It was so funny, reality can be funny. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're a sad cat. The old say, "the things we did back then.." really applies here. I would hardly walk waring colthes that I thought were cool then, now!
@lilic1 With OWS we're moving back to a type of consciousness that could bring this about in our current cultural setting, so I do understand the point--I might add though, although I do agree these young women were creating drama, they were also at the same time trying to be ironic--a poke at the girl groups that peaked a few years earlier.
i heard about Cake many years back but never took the trouble to check them out at the time. After seeing this and the 'Mockingbird' clip I have to say that their reputation is richly deserved. For a bunch of white chicks they did alright. Like other people I'm intrigued by the funky dancing in these clips, but more than that I wonder why the dolly one doesn't dance? Did she have some kind of disability or something or was she just not into dancing? Anyone know?
ULTRA COOL, la cancion tiene el sonic wall que fue el sello de PHIL SPECTOR, las chicas estan vestidas, mod style, por Rupert Lycett, maquilladas por Max Factor y bailan al mas puro estilo groovy, este video es una joya

Creepy. We went from June Cleaver to this in how many short years? It's true, the Manson girls were caught up in this same type of hippie culture. If the 60's movement had only left the drugs alone maybe it would have been completely different, and better. Ever see a spiderweb made by a spider on LSD?
@Thopter Um...this is creepy in 2010? Have you been asleep for the past 40 yrs? I highly recommend that everyone get the 45 of this track. It's a little longer, and sounds great. It's a tad pricey at around $10. But, it is a collector's item. Decca label.
For anyone interested . . . This is a cover of a song done by the Righteous Brothers on the Moonglow label, before they got connected with Phil Spector. The Righteous Brothers didn't write it; I don't know who did the original.
This was a hit for Roy Hamilton (as You can Have Her), written by William/Bill Cook. My fave is Dionne Warwick's version with a great Bacharach arrangement.
Yeah, Roy Hamilton. I knew I'd heard another version. Didn't Hamilton do "Don't Let Go"? Another cool song. Back to the Cake: Anyone who likes this has GOT to hear "Baby That's Me" -- the Cake's masterpiece. Hearing that song is like being in heaven. It's on YouTube. Search for: Cake Baby That's Me.
ok, this is my first look at these girls, what's "unintentionally funny" about it? i love quirky stuff, plus these girls are hot! the girl on left only accents the cool moves of the girls on the right. pretty cool, must know more.

Funny and ice cool are a touch combination to pull off. The Cake certainly did here. Great song!

I'll take "Cake" over the "The Cake" any day. I just got my eyes and ears raped by this video.

I like this song as much as the #8...Long live number 8! Ride the rails and cut the trails. It all leads to this song

I highly recommend that everyone get the 45 of this track. It's a little longer, and sounds great. It's a tad pricey at around $10. But, it is a collector's item. Decca label.

Or get the recently released compilation CD from Amazon.

Good to know. I hope it's the mono mix of this song. The stereo version from the lp is a little weak.

this is the coolest thing ever... you can tell it was really *hip* at the time. i love the way they dance at every break...

My fave is Dionne Warwick's version with a great Bacharach arrangement.
jemb2000 2 years ago

Did you find out what you wanted to know? I did some research on my own, would like to get in contact and discuss The Cake, if you'd want. :D
Still love these girls, too..

Notice Jeanette stagger, just after they disembark. Who's idea was it to spin them round on their first TV appearance?
