  • I fitted winter tyres in 2010 (Dec) they made driving in the snow very safe. have them on my car now . Jan. 2012 as they give safer grip in temp's under 7*c. I put them on in mid Dec 2011 and will take them off when temp stays above 8*c for more than a week.

I am a retired professional driver, for over 45 years ( member of the IAM ) and would never consider driving in the winter without winter tyres. It's not how fast you can drive, it's how fast you can stop.

  • Fitting winter tyres in a no- brainer, if can afford it.

  • If you drive at an appropriate speed, braking is not an issue with all season tyres. Most people would benefit from winter tyres more for grip. However, I see sales of them going through the roof... that almost guarantees a mild winter.

Me, Snow socks worked great for me last winter - I live in Scotlands Central belt. Got me home, driving past hundreds of stranded vehicles on 6th December.

  • what the fuck? why didnt you buy wintertires years ago?

  • @snaken2 Until recently there wasnt a great deal of use for them. Mild winters with almost no snow saw to that. Infact until the last 2 years we were lucky/unlucky to have any snow at all!

  • Winter tyres also have better water dispertion and a higher number of grooves (sipes) to 'bite' into snow/ice.

    I have a set. They're the dog's doo-dahs
