  • This reminds me of "Girl Interrupted" xD

  • @Shane05081 i know

  • I love this song.=)

  • Love this song, especially in these times

  • @MyDan58 Yes. Seems like all of us old timers are saying the same thing. But check out the cover by Emma Bunton for a more updated version which is true to the original. I love Emma because she's very retro with much of her music. And blonde. :-)

  • I'd wished to marry Petula......60 yrs ago. hehe

  • Quite simply, one of the greatest pop songs of all time.

You just can't hear this song come up on the radio and not end up with a big smile on your face.......

  • this girl was HOT!

  • great - apart from it's out of sync.

  • Love this song.

  • Jimmy Page plays guitar on this.

  • who else is terrified someone is going to murder a radio dj

  • this song is superb! I remember hearing this as a child, it means the world to me

  • Possibly one of the very earliest "Pop Videos" ??

  • @slievebearnagh 1964

  • She was a cute and very talented lady!

  • What a great voice, I remember music, when people used to actually know how to sing. Those days are gone now, that's for sure.

  • See you in another life brotha.

  • Great song, and she's so charming!! As a child this song always made me want to go ''DOWNTOWN'' Brooklyn , I thought about all the big department stores, movie theaters, etc

  • My, my how time flies......this old lady is almost 80 years old!

    Geeezus Kryst!

  • @SkidRowJosephine speaking of time 'time heals all wounds' and 'time wounds all heels'

  • @SkidRowJosephine

She was avout 36 years old when she had this hit song.

Actually old for a pop singer at that time.

  • @NewWaveTH no no you are are wrong at 36 at that time is just a prime time this was on the 60's not on 2010 lol now a day a pop singer should have still the cold dripping from their nose wearing half pampere and half underwear and so long the can sing Yeahh yeahh yeahh then are already a pop singer shit lol

  • tout une époque

  • @MARCEL721000 si, simplemente sublime

  • life was good, the future still bright....somehow....

  • 1965 - Number one hit on this date Jan 23rd ...........how time go go goes by....

  • See you in another life, brother...

  • I was 1 yo

  • In 1980, I remember watching the changing of the guard in front of Buckingham Palace, and they played this, snapping their high steps to the ground in rhythm on the "Down-Town". It just sent chills down my spine!

  • I want Petula downtown in wet-look vinyl!

  • Oh, God, every time i listen to this song, I cry, I MISS DownTown San Diego, Ca, the Gaslamp Quarter, cheers from Colombia, LOVE AMERICA.

  • You can feel the emotion when there's no chorus. My $0.02

  • DREAMY EYES

  • One can really feel the sixties through this video, a big favourite!

  • I loved her then and still do

  • This beings me back to when i was a child, watching and listening to this is like having a time machine. What a talent Pet Clark was.....

  • Juliet's song ^^

  • I just finished watching Girl, Interrupted and this song stuck in my head.

  • wow it s amazing how a song can transport you in an instant back to an exact place and time:) thnx 4 sharing happy 2012

  • I LOVE YOU..MY BEBY

  • 118 people prefer the suburbs to Downtown.

  • @dbkparm - in the 60's there where no such things as suburban shopping centres or shopping centres for that matter, as is the case today ... If you wanted to shop you went to the city centre and you took the time to dress up rather then down as is normal in today's society ... Verdelle Smith had a hit in 1966 - TAR AND CEMENT that depicts the fast changing world - even back then - whether that be bad or good ...

  • Agreed, I was about 8 years old but I loved this song ! Powerful & good voice, wonderful performer & great horn arrangement in the backing!

  • There were many good singers in those days. Petula was among the best soloists.

  • LOST? anyone?

  • @yeedrah Not lost any longer ! When I am laid to rest I hope the music wont fade

  • No living in sin in those chaste days,at least not in our Australian Italian Family!

  • Love this song!

  • I'm kissing her as she"s singing.

  • la conoci por LOST..... jejej

  • beautiful voice combined with reality need it these days

  • Kevin Turvey did a wonderful version of this.....

  • What has become of her....

  • Well when you live in cleveland you try and avoid downtown..

  • @nigFEET1 that was funny!....here in Puerto is the same story also...ha....but what a classic song nevertheless..

  • @nigFEET1 too funny! LOL...but what a great song, huh? Peace, friend.

  • @nigFEET1 What does that mean! And I don't like the word nigger!!!!!!!!!

  • I love her voice. You don't hear anything like that in music today.

  • @Gamer2k4 agreed friend. great sound!

  • great video

  • Goooooooooooood !!!:P:P:P:P:P:P

  • Among the great songs of the oldies! And I always have loved music like this as well as many others who are STARVING for classic music such as this! Such talent! Man, I wish more of this genre would return!

  • Petula is still looking and singing good !!!

  • Lost: brings 14 year-olds to seemingly random 60's music.

  • @TheAndyschoonover2 thats true but dont think that lost fans are all teenyboppers who dont know great music. lost is one of the greatest tv shows of the 21st century

  • Petula has sold 68 million records world wide. She is now 79. Where did the years go?

  • Finally after all those years since '65 I ended up seeing her of all places in La Mirada, Ca. in concert. She was just as bubbly and vivacious as she was in the stampeding herd of the brirish invasion. She had maintained the strength of her voice and went into detail about her upbringing and her interesting personal life. The audience consisted of of course the 50+ crowd, many Brits and suprisingly enough, a smattering of hard-core, tatooed bikers.

  • im here because of lost

  • gosh in four five years all this music was swept off by roc n'roll, the beattles and the stones !…

  • @vincent7520 quite sure McCartney probably loved this and still does...

  • @AetroyayorteA you're right

I was refering to the type of music not to the vivacious woman Petula Clark was (still is ?…)

  • A very special, attractive, unique awesome lady that I had ever seen in my life.

  • Che bella donna, bombabilissima

  • Juliette brought me here

  • this woman is great........she has so many of my favorite songs...this is not my favorite but i still love it.

  • she is great wish i could meet her.

  • Girl interrupted!

  • We grew up in the 60's about an hour and a half north of NYC - I remember when this song was out, I wished I was old enough to live in NYC w/all of the cool girls and their sparkly mini-skirts and bouffants - I wished I was Petula Clark!!! HA!

  • The hottest woman singer of the 60's.

  • thumbs up if your here cuz of lost

  • How can someone dislike this video/song and Petula Clark? Classic song, and Classy lady.

  • i was downtown last night and all i seen was drug dealers, hookers and pimps, is a real shit hole

  • 118 people aren't going downtown...

  • @ncflyfisher - OMG, your comment is a riot - I'll be laughing all weekend - thanks, you made my day!!!

  • Pet's signature song. She is still a lovely darling. Dusty Springfield was a fave of mine too.

  • Mrs. Clark is a great singer. She also contributed to get beyond racial segregation in the American TV by holding Harry Belafonte's arm during a performance in the USA (video is here: gQXVjY1oqRo). Weird how it took an English woman rather than an American one to break the taboo.

  • This is one of my favorite songs. To me, they are memories of yesterday, today and for all time. Thanks Petula Clark for giving your voice.

  • 4 8 15 16 23 42

  • Stay away from downtown Cleveland Ohio; you eventually will be stabbed.

  • @GoldenHarvest454 Is Cleveland, Ohio really that bad in 2012? I was born in Cleveland, OH. I moved to London, England, when I was six. One might say that I'm Bob Hope in reverse.

  • @mickeymousebiker1 --Cleve-turd is constanlty ranked as one of the worst in crime and worst in education; I'd like to visit jolly old England sometime....

  • @GoldenHarvest454 Thank you for the heads-up. I'll not visit my point of origin on planet earth. I'm currently living in the States. Life in the UK became too expensive and too depressing for me. Still, I hold some sweet memories of England.

  • Petula is about 79 now, and still look's lovely..

    Thank's for sharing Nyrainbow2!

    Good work.!

  • Petula Clark,another classy lady!!

    Alway's love her music!

    Great recording!

  • Right. There's something always fresh about this song, and PC's version is the best.

  • this recording never gets old..never

great lyric, melody, arrangement, recording and vocal

only petula clark i want to hear sing this...even the great sinatra failed at this one

i love the mood and atmosphere of this recording...it takes you back to a time when audiences were demanding and you had to be good if not great to succeed

    unlike today

  • @ChiroQuacker

    amen

  • LOST

  • One of the greatest pop songs and for me a nr1. classic

  • she is a legend!

  • well how old would she be now?

  • @purselady2 79

  • @purselady2 I believe she is in her early 80's

  • This SONG always MAKES my DAY

  • Always Gets Me Through The Rough Times In life.

  • usaf

  • how old?

  • Best song about being Downtown I've ever heard :')

  • I love a good old fashioned english singer

  • is she still living?

  • @purselady2 Yes

  • in 1966, this was a happenin' tune, sung by a real woman, not someone who needed "studio" enhancements. Sunset Park , PS-169, 7th Avenue and 46th St, Brooklyn,New York-1960-1967,

  • A few years ago I dated a 40ish woman who looked just like Petula. Now, I like Petula, but never really "saw" how really hot she was (is). Then Sharon (my Petula) came over one Friday night, she knocked, I opened the door and she was wearing a raincoat, just like Ms. Clark. She walked in the door, opened the coat and she was wearing a black bra and panties and I (quite literally) almost fell over. This video takes me back.....and now I gotta go....Petula...Sharon is waiting...

  • @OhJaniceWhyOhWhy Did you go ''Downtown''.........sorry I could not resist.

  • @metalrod23 That's funny dude and, yes we did. I miss those days!!!

  • I'm so happy there's people who appreciate lost enough to look up this video lol

  • @SuperHiMids me too!

  • 4 8 15 16 23 42

  • this is the fdirst song i ever heard on my transistor radio. I think it was 77 wabc or wmca. I actually worked atwmca in the 80's

  • @FleaMarketPete are you stuck in 1988 dude?

  • This is a time when the singers were not stripped to their undies and enticing you to have sex with them.

  • Dedicated to El Capitaino....working da beat tonight on a FULL MOON!!!

  • Downtown as in at the police precinct?/? Dam IT !???

  • Good one! LMAO!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @FleaMarketPete And your basing your statistics on...?

  • This lady's almost a mirror image of my friend's sister. Amazing singer!

  • What a lovely woman!

  • Girls Interrupted .

    :]

  • I WAS RAISED DOWNTOWN

  • a very good singer and may i say a very good looking women

  • LOST season 3 :

  • @odst1999

... is exactly what brought me here...

  • I remember my mom taking me "uptown" on the bus, and always wondering where "downtown" was. Great song, great memory.

  • LOST :D

  • Just started college then and never forgot that song.......or that voice. Thanks so much for the post.

  • This song is as beautiful as Petula Clark it reminds me walking down on Michigan Avenue in Chicago... those were the days

  • This reminds me of when I used to take the 24 bus from Hampstead down to Trafalgar Square.

  • I think this was the one song that drew me in to the music scene. I loved her voice and the sound of this up beat song.

  • Downtown...? Up there with Itchycoo Park, London Calling and Waterloo Sunset for anthems about London.

  • @FleaMarketPete you complete wanker..

  • Down Town.....Well done Petula...I'm going Down Town....its not over yet....Thank you for reminding me!

  • DOWNTOWN is song for all times and this woman is so hot

  • One of the first songs I bought on a 45 rpm vinyl record. I liked going Downtown Chicago during that time as a teen.

  • we always went up town what the hell is the difference

  • I was born the week this was # 1 on the charts!! Love it!

  • What a babe! I remember listening to this song in my living room on a cassette player! Guess my dear old dad had some taste in music after all! I love the upbeat sound -- reminds me a bit of the English Beat a couple of decades later!

  • She was great . I loved her . She was one of the biggest singing stars from the Islamic Republic of England back in the 1960s.

  • Loved this growing up.

I literally screamed when I found it in a bin of old 45's a few months ago.

  • A classic! I was 10 years old at the time this song came out. I loved it then and I still love it now!
