truthfully I would say it is the Japanese equivalent to the Peanuts comic strips and all that. Even though Charlie Brown hasn't made a cartoon in ages compared to Sazae-San. It is still remembered by everyone including children, and of course their specials still air every year.

Yeah :P But in germany is animated series called "Sandmann". Sandmann is running since 1959.

I think, Sandmann is still being. Sandmann have two version. Germany canceled one version in 1991, or something like that. But the another version is still running since 1959. Both version is running since 1959 but one of this version is canceled in 1991.
