  • I've always thought of this was a COOL AS HELL SONG!!!

  • i have 4 copies of the sweet 2 db and 2 givwe us a wink each one cd and one record all have been in my opinion some of the best investments i have ever made

  • @needsmetal good opinion!

  • the best!!! only sweet!!! best song!!

  • One of the best songs ever !!!

  • what a great #

  • @electricspiral-Queen came out @ the same time as Sweet!! It does resemble Keep Yourself Alive though!!

  • This is the song that inspired my dad to be a rockstar!! He is surely missed and he was the best rockstar! Rock in Peace Dad!!

  • When I was a kid, I found this 45 in a dump where the family was taking trash. I've been a fan of this band ever since that day.

  • sweet is great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sweet is better than them !!!!

  • SWEET !!!!!!!!!!!!!! PALM BCH FL....

  • nice song

  • 4 favorite songs by Sweet...Little Willy,Fox On The Run,Action, and Love Is Like Oxygen.

  • hmm. i like that Def Leppard's version has the guitars playing the insane beginning. but this is cool

  • You may hear some resemblance of Queen here? Let the truth told. Sweet came out way before Queen. Besides I love Sweet a hell lot more.

  • I came to the USA in 1977. I was 9 years old. Up until then, I had only heard music from my country....Argentina. I found this album in the trash......took it home, put it on the record player, and played it. I thought right then and there....."Man I'm gonna like it here!!" :)

  • Great band!! wasnt even born yet when this came out. Beats the hell out of the shit thats being played today!!

  • Great track and album, thx.

  • Great song...been many years since I last heard it on the airwaves!

  • I was 14 when this came out. I hear a little Brian May riffage/chorus now and then and a little bit of the vocal harmonies sometimes sound like Queen, but the band has always had their own thing happenin'. Love the synth against the acoustic string in the intro. And the modulation there with the rhythm changes after the cash register is...um... sweet!

    ACtion ACtion ACtion ACtion ACtion AC...tion AC.........tion AC.........................tioooon AC.tiooooooooooooooo

  • I remember hearing "Blockbuster" and "Little Willy," but when I heard this tune, flipped out!! Amazing!

  • My intellectual self tells me this is ROCK & ROLL!!!

  • I love Leppard. But I'm sooo sooo sorry. The original version kicks DL's cover epically.

Also I was a Sweet fan way before being a Leppard fan and only then I found out about the cover and came to not really apreciate it. Effin' hail SWEET!

  • remember this days was 12 yers old never forget it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nice kottmeier!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favorite Sweet songs, more people should listen to this band.

  • I liked the Sweet, but I think other albums are even better in some aspects. Sweet Funny Adams is cool with the title track and set me free. Desolation boulevard is great to with the singles and pieces like solid gold brass. But also healer (from this album) is not bad at all. Nevertheless Sweet is an underrated band that made some graet music!

  • oh, i love the cover.. how it's changed over the years... makes for a great band... well... who will be discovering sweet 100 yrs from now with their 'jacking'? (supposively their spines with an neuro-pickup assembly....) hell, we can't even make a space station or get back to the moon and retire the hubble... sigh... give us cyber drugs, NO, the real thing! not that implicated I-pod garbage.

  • It feels like....shooting speed.

  • It feels like....shooting speed.

  • AWESOME!! Takes you up in a rocket!

  • Got this record in the late seventies, traded it with a Purple casette. With a Child in Time live-track with Coverdale I've never heard again. BIG mistake...well, at least sort of a mistake. 'Cos Give Us A Wink was such a great album it almost made it worth it ;o) And yes, you're right, careing: this intro IS one of the coolest ever...

  • one of the coolest intros, ever.

  • Sounds like a violin bow on a guitar string at the start with a synth in the background.

  • "Give Us A Wink" is my first album of rock,

    that I bought!!!

  • One of Sweet's best ! 5 stars !

  • One of the most underrated bands of all time - awesome.

  • @devtrev holy shit u sure got that right dude.. my parents say that they've never heard of this band before and they have a really good taste in music

  • @jnuno999

In the 60's -70's there were so many good bands, the level you had to be at to 'make it' was way higher than t'day, as a result some charting bands didn't even make the radar and a lot of it had to do with radio station programing Your area/market might not of heard 'The Sweet' etc. (unless they had a number one hit).

Don't forget radio was all that existed back then, no MTV, VH1 etc. Midnight Special (TV show) came on at midnight once on the weekend, everyone was out 'partying'.

  • Yes, but this track was recorded in 1975 and Hotel California came out two years later in 1977

  • djzmrdko. You are onto something. Liar came out on Queen's 1st. album, 1973 and Action came out in 76'. Still a good song. And Sweet had so many great songs. If they had a flaw, it was that they became well known for songs like, Little Willy, which is still a good catchy song, but unfortunately, the average listener didn't dive into their better music. Extremely underrated band.

  • @maximum1954

Good point - they could never shake the Wig Wam Bam bubble gum typecast even as they were moving into some pretty heavy stuff with Desolation Boulevard and Give us a Wink

  • @djzmrdko sounds nothing like hotel california and even though they say liar it doesnt sound like queen either.

  • @djzmrdko just because they say liar in harmony doesnt make the rest of the song sound anything like it

  • @djzmrdko

    Learn to spell you twat.

  • This rocks for real!

  • Excellent!

  • Killer track.....I wish the original "lady starlight" from this album was on here somewhere too.

  • the black tab on top of the album cover was for pulling out the inner sleeve.

when you did so it changed the 'winking eye' to an 'open eye' through the cut out on the outer cover. when you put the inner sleeve back in the album cover, it would "give you a wink" very SWEET.

  • yeah that was pretty cool I had it on vinyl too :)

  • Not so much.

    but it is awesome. :)

  • rare song
