And, Since Leslie's are practically unknown to the 'Horn blaster" Crowd, they'd be less prone to theft. It would be Pretty sweet to hear some New S5Ts on CSX though.
@lt1caprice57l My two crossings on the NS Lehigh Line, where I live near, got the quiet zones. I remember as a little boy my grandfather took me down to the crossing I live a couple blocks away from. I used to love the blue. When I was three years old, Conrail went bye-bye. Things started to change. Crossing gates were replaced to the stupid Safetran electronic bells instead of the old mechanical bells. What a shame.
A Faboulous RS3L! And a Nice looking Pair of Conrails! They are unpatched in this video. Or is it a subtile patch that NS is starting to use? Nonetheless an AWESOME Horn & Engine Pair
extremely nice Leslie..leave it to Conrail!

Sweet sounding! WSOR has a couple of locomotives armed with nice RS3LRs, but Conrail Leslies just always seem to sound better than anybody else's.

Great sound!

And therefore less desirable with the people who would steal them - the hornblasters crowd - because they can't be easily hidden.

CSX is supposedly removing and scrapping their existing RS5T horns because they are 'too loud'. Sad.

This video nearly brought a tear to my eye.
Those were the days. before quiet zones, before LEDs, before E-bells, and most of all, before stupid out-of-tune K horns everywhere.

I believe you; they had some SD40-2s from KCS who used S-5Ts extensively on their second generation diesels.

Conrail rules! :)

The Conrail number font on the cab gives it away. Ah yes, good old Conrail, used to go thru Champaign/Urbana every couple of hours.
After the split, NS goes thru only once every few days now. I kinda miss the old CR...

If I ran a railroad all my locomotives would be EMDs old & new equipped with S5Ts.

one hot RS3L there. it sucks that we dont hear many that sound that good nowadays.

This video is ancient. It was shot well before the split. Those motors aren't even around anymore, they're not Dash-2s.
cbehr91 3 years ago
Oh, interesting and what were they. And I nver said they were dash-2's
xxxDeath9572xxx 3 years ago
7680 is a GP38 & 8140 is a GP38-2 . Since the first motor wasn't a dash-2 it wasn't kept much after 2000.
cbehr91 3 years ago
ah now i understand what your saying
xxxDeath9572xxx 3 years ago
@cbehr91 type of motor doesn't make it a dash 2, the type of electrical system does.
