I read somewhere that Redd Foxx would sometimes do things during the tapings that were spontaneous. It seems like snatching off Aunt Esther's wig was not part of the script. Notice Demond Wilson's shock at her wig being taken off, like he wasn't expecting that to happen. Classic moment from a classic show!

Actually Haywood Nelson who was Dwayne on Whats Happening, did play on a episode of Sanford and Son. Its was the pilot for Grady's short live show. Where he goes to live with his daughter and her family. Haywood played his grandson.

You're right. I forgot about Grady. However, it was only on for a few weeks and was canceled. What's Happening was on for 4 weeks in August 1976 on a trial run. The ratings were good, so ABC picked the show up. A footnote: Shirley Hemphill guest starred on an episode of Good Times between then. She was the dim-witted sister of a girl that was robbing the Evanses of their lottery winnings. The kids turned Shirley against her to subdue them.
