  • Thanks for posting!

  • Sort of a mid 60's version of the Tokens.

  • @xeuropn I was thinking the 4 season's or (dam memory loss).lol. good tune.

  • hey i love this song :) check out my cover of it :)

  • i was born in the late 80's and yet, to me the 60's seems like the pinnacle of good music to me. i wish that... i was born a thousand years ago.... oh wait. i mean 40 or 50 years ago. :)

  • nice song

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • Many don't know this was Gerswhin tune from the 30's. Toyota used part of this song in commercials in the 1980's. "Toyota. Who Can Ask For Anything More?"

  • got the measles all over again....explain later

  • Seven dislikes for one of Gershwin's finest! I wonder how many Chopin and Mozart get?

  • Love it love it love it!

  • Just great!

  • that came out the year I did! I like it!!

    Timothy

    :o)

  • Heavenly days MaGee, this version's thirty years older than I thought! ah, a classic is more timeless that we have a right to know.

  • Many R&B/pop acts had hits with the American Songbook from the mid-50's through the late 60's: The Platters, Flamingoes, Marcels, Four Seasons and Mama Cass, among others I'm sure. Shows how malleable great songs are.

  • Great tune and very nice rendition.

Were there two different groups known as The Happenings performing during the late-1960s? I'm confused because there's another (black and white, 1971) You Tube clip of The Happenings on The Mike Douglas Show and it seems like a different group. The former don't play instruments and are singers only, whereas the latter play instruments and look likep art of the British Invasion of that era.

  • @hayesman76 It's the same group, although they may have undergone some lineup changes between their appearance here and when they did The Mike Douglas Show. At the very least, the lead singer (Bob Miranda) is the same in both clips.

  • They are "The Happenings" not the "The Happening".

  • Really neat, cool and musically colorful stuff. I remember this song on the AM radio airwaves as youngster way back when. It still sounds quite good.

  • I always loved this version!

  • Anyone have any songs off "Piece of Mind" by the Happenings ?

they are extrmemly important ! please post, I'd love to hear them.

  • I remember this on tv.....and the smothers brothers song......What a great one...

  • this is an old favorite. they blend perfectly well. nice listening.

  • And Justin Bieber thinks his hair is original! Hah!

  • Thats the way singers yous"e to look, sharp, suit and tie .todays singers look like slobs, pants falling off their ass.the 60s and 70s were the best years of my life.

  • i had this 45. always loved it.

  • Man, I forgot how cool the smothers brothers were. The Jefferson Airplane, other Associations songs, with psychedelic backgrounds... I'm feelin' tragically hip!

  • what makes this song and others with quartet or quintet is the background vocals.

  • It almost sounds as Miranda's mic is "live"....FJA NJ

  • Yes Johnny Maestro is one of the greatest even though there are many who would try

Bob Miranda is up there with Johnny but How long did Johnny last?

    Singing in Heaven! RIP Johnny

  • Glee should do their songs.

  • One of the most successful renditions of a song from the real old days. Wonderful upbeat harmony on the stereo! They sing it with such great conviction! Thanks for sharing.

  • These guys made remakes better than the originals and that is not easy to do.

  • Have a listen to Adrian Baker's version

  • Thanks. The Smother's Brothers deserve much more credit.... This is a great song in every respect. Dip,dip, dip, dip, dip.....rhythm....dip...dip....!!! Who could ask for more???

  • SUPERLATIVE!!! ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!! Guys, thanks for doing these songs without lip-sync'ing!! Seriously delightful... you gentlemen have been an inspiration to me musically and I hope one day to shake your hands and thank you for creating a spark in me as a child. I'm a musician and have been a vocalist since the 70s. You fellas had a great sound. I love "My Mammy" what a treatment you did. Genius! I regard you as being one of the top 5 vocal groups of the vinyl era - thanks for your hard work

  • Scott, I don't remember the original Gershwin but I do remember this version...

  • Underrated group - had plenty of rhythm. August now, see you in September !

  • Dip dip dip dip dip dip. Yeah, this song is contagious and I loved it when it came out. Still do. Anyone catch Brian Wilson's take on this song from his new album, "Re-imagining Gershwin?" Really great. The lead singer on this take has a phenomenal voice. What range and emotion!

  • The Happenings did concert at my college. It was without a doubt the most entertaining concert, I've seen in that type of venue. More like a Vegas show.

  • I was 11 years old when this was released in 1967. The Happenings do a great version of this tune. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts in June, 1967. I still have my copy of the Happenings "Psycle" LP, which contained "I Got Rhythm". Long live vinyl!!!

  • Just a great song :-)

  • Very good '60's take on an unforgettable old classic!

  • I was 10 when this song was released, and I loved it. I still do. The first time I heard it, I thought it was the Four Seasons. I'm sure many people made the same mistake.

  • Received a lot of airplay on Radio 1 as i recall, but not a big hit here in England.Still, we loved it at the Wigan Casino nightclub, where about 4 a.m., the late, great ...Martin Ellis would give it a spin and fill the dancefloor. Be about 1975 then.....happy days, and nights. Glen Stanley Mason jr. .

  • Great song! This group is from my hometown Paterson, NJ. My dad said he saw them live a couple of times before they hit it big.

  • Beautiful ! ! !

  • Good sound here!

  • Brilliant live vocals

  • Class act from start to finish!

  • Whoops! I meant Dave Libert!

  • Dave Leibert is the bomb! In fact, I think he should change his name to "Dyno-Dave" or just "Dyno"!

  • Bravo, this group is really great and it´s a pleasure to listen too!

  • This sounds like it was done live, not lip sync'd, which was unusual for that time, I think. Great performance!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • i had the 45. always loved it. great song.

  • They look sharp, sound great, they really delivered great harmonies.

  • I thought this was the 4 Seasons...Thanks for clearing that up...

  • @HDangerism Yeah, me too, at first, when he says, "I'm Troubled"

  • There was a trend in the 60's to turn Greshwin/Cole Porter-era songs in to modern pop hits. Others included "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Anything Goes" and "Summertime".

  • The Happenings were from my hometown.....Paterson,NJ

  • Mind boggling harmonies. Would LOVE to see a video of "Tea Time", their utterly bizarre B-side to their 1966 "Go Away Little Girl" single. Same for their cover of Al Jolson's "My Mammy" with its larger than life acapella intro.

  • i have to play this song on my trumpet for my music GCSE and i wasnt to sure about it but these guys made me want to play it over and over again

  • Classic !!! Great harmonies...Good Lord !!!! I forgot about this song !!! " I got rhythm" ..The Happenings...Yea baby !!! These guys sounded great together...What a clear strong voice Bob Miranda had back in the day. They just don't make em like this anymore...

    Thanks for the feel good...JRZ

  • this song was used for a drink called great shakes

  • Mark this down as one of the most *under-rated* groups of the 1960s...

  • Lead singer Bob Miranda had a great voice! Timesless stuff!

  • They had a great habit of taking other peoples songs and making them better.

  • Great guys to go on tour with. My brothers were there backup band or say warm-up band. They could play anything back in 79 when they were on tour. They invited us to set in there dressing room and share jokes and music together.

Thanks for the refresher of my old days.

  • oh man i remember singing this in school

i love how Bernie was my music teacher

    <3

  • Yes indeed, a great song - beautiful harmonies!

I think this is my favorite version of the song .... just slightly ahead of Fozzie Bear's version on The Muppet Show, "I Don't Got Rhythm" !! :-)

  • I can't believe it .......lol TY Firefly brings back lots of good times and some bad...but life is good

  • Love you, The Happenings.!Have all your musics, and you sang on my teens (and forever).

    Monica de Catella

    singer/writer

    from BRAZIL

  • Great song. Brings back so many memories. Does anyone have a copy of the Happenings doing a version of "Where Do I Go" from Hair? Been looking for it for almost forty years, but most people think I'm crazy when I bring it up. If you have a copy of this rare recording, please post. I would love to hear it again. Thx.

  • I like this song. Thanks for sharing this.

  • thanks for the share laura

  • Great Singing and Music. A professional performance. The way it SHOULD BE. Sung in a classy way. Notice no one's grabbing areas south of the belt or 45 pounds of gold@ the neck, puffed out boxer shorts. God! Can't believe the sheer garbage, plus the sideshow that comes WITH it in video format passing for 'Music,' today- "singing"@ bitches,ho's,doing in the police. Disgusting but mainly devoid of any talent/musicianship. Hilarious. It's SO AWFUL! Idiots 'singing' making fools of themselves! Har!

  • amen, libralady1010.

  • Well said and I agree with you.

  • Tommy said "days of the depression", maybe the Happenings can make a come-back!!

  • Whoa!!!! All these guys need is a squirting flower! Luvitall!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting. I love this song!

  • This group was mostly the musicians behind the Partridge Family

  • number 3 in may-june 1967:)

  • So cool to hear some of these recordings, glad there still around.

    Groovy Baby.

  • There was a a trend in the 60's to take 20's and 30's songs - Gershwin, Cole Porter, etc. - and put them to a rock beat, such as the Four Season's doing I've Got You Under My Skin and Harper's Bizzare doing Anything Goes.

  • I wonder if a group like this would survive today's music scene. Clean cut, not vulgar, no tatoos or piercings. No screaming hate, drugs or expletives. I guess not.

I remember this time. Thanks for posting.

  • JrzFirefly: Oh Lord! Thank you for posting this one! I always loved this particular version. They did Gershwin proud!

  • This is a great singing group that has a spot in the 60s music history. Man, wish I was back in time in this memorable decade.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • He sure can.Nobody said he couldn't though.I would like to see Bob Miranda in a song contest with Johnny Maestro. He would really give him a run for his money. And Johnny just happens to be one of the best too.

  • great post!! Miranda can really sing!
