@Triakis2011 Maybe it was due to some part of the original screenplay that wasn't filmed. Maybe it was because it was to small to be a host (I don't take Alien 3 as part of the official Alien universe). Maybe the wanted the possibility of the cat being a host, so they could make a sequel. It could be anything really. Maybe they thought it showed Ripley's maternal instincts.
5:05 to 7:00 really does lul you into a false sense of security because that is when you think it is all over...but when you see that pipe move and the hand emerge SHOCK is total...it awesome!
@Hellothasauras Adding to the realism of terrified. Seeing Lambert too terrified to move is real. In the horror movie, the character(s) will run. Some are too scared to run in real life. This is what this movie good.
@jubolito, James Cameron kept several music cues from Goldsmith's Alien score in Aliens. The entire sequence with Riply and Newt running from the alien queen to the elevators and finding Bishop has taken the drop ship from the platform uses the cues' 'Parker's Death' and 'Sleppy Alien' from Alien. I think Cameron also kept some of Goldsmith's suspense music for the scenes where the marines first land on the planet.
@cripplehawk Actually I think what Parker is yelling at that moment is "Get out of the way...get out of the way Lambert I'm gonna kill it!" He was trying to get Lambert to move so he could torch the alien with the flamethrower without incinerating her too.
When i was a kid, that "two-notes" musical moment from 0:35 to 1:13 was always in my mind, that scene was so cool. The Alien from Alien 1 had more Charisma and a more scary presence than the others... He had a better design. I love how, in this movie, It is all about THE Alien. He's badass, unkillable, fucking scary... But in Aliens, the fact that they are many makes the creature less scary... But i Still love these two movies
yep same here that two-note moment was alway in my mind and that scene is one of my favs too. I was about 8 years old when i first watched ALIEN and im now 26 and this movie and the other alien movies ( Including the 2 AVP films) are my all time favourites
Parker's Death & Sleeply alien were re-used in Aliens as Ripley is chased by the Queen while trying to reach Bishop and the drop ship. It can't be a good experience for another composer (James Horner) to have someone else's music inserted into his own score. Could you imagine a director telling a screenwriter that scenes from a similar screenplay are going to be inserted into his own screenplay. Composers deserve more respect in the film industry.
can u imagine a score this awesome in a film like my bloody valentine. film scores for horror seem to be too electronic , theres no violins or harps anymore. not that i dislike elctronic symphony it just seems over used
That pluck of the string has been done before, but this the greatest sample I've ever heard. Each pluck has a echo that goes so much deeper than any other attempt.
Imangine that you are alone in a deep, dark hall. In the dismal black each slight pluck's echo tells you how empty, deep, and hollow it is and and you can gradually tell each pluck at a time becomes broader and louder as if it has detected the presence of someone other than you...
I can't believe that scene was cut! Hearing "a man turn into an egg" sound so corny....but seeing it with this creepy music playing made it very disturbing and terrifying.
Scott said they cut the scene with Dallas and Parker being cacooned because it interupted the flow of the final 15 minutes and e believed hthe film worked better by concentrating on Ripley alone. Also, I guess, we never would have had an alien queen in the next film if this scene was left in. If an ordinary alien can cacoon its prey into new eggs then there is no need for a queen. The queen makes more sense in the alien species' life cycle.
i think the cacooned people turning into eggs is better... it means if one of those things is on ur ship than ur screwed becuzz within days theres more and ur probly dead by then anyways but the fact that it is self suficient after that host is used in that it can reuse the bodies is scary enough. the queen kinda makes it relie on it and takes down the its a killing machine to more of a bug which destroyed the idea of it :\
Isnt this the bit where that women gets analy raped by the aliens tail and she makes weird noises over the radio?

@DaveM599 I think it's definately to show Ripley's maternal instincts. Maybe this is where Cameron got his idea from for Aliens.

Lambert was such an awesome character. She was the anti-Ripley as the angsty, emotionally fragile female.
Eragarev 1 year ago 3
@Eragarev She was so utterly obnoxious. She should've been thrown to the Alien as a sacrifice.

Parker should have just fried that bitch with the alien.

@Konfu Seriously. I can't stand her. They should've given her to the Alien as a supplication.
