  • For the update:

  • For anyone having trouble with the background image not appearing, make sure you're in Orthographic view, not perspective.

  • eyy ur aussie right. yay

  • nice tutorial you really helped me out.

  • @hamsterhill thanks for your reply! I found out that for me, the tricky part is learning all these shortcut buttons and remembering them. Also, if I did something wrong, I had to redo all over! Pretty frustrating for me. It's good to see the u persevere and I should try to do the same. Thank you! :D

  • To any of you experts in blender, how long does it take for u to learn to become a full fledged video game creator? This seems pretty complicated, I am still learning and hope to be able to create SOMETHING. Thanks in advance to any responses and I am keen in receiving tips as well. ;)

  • @GeoJJx Fully fledged game creator? i've been doing blender and game creation for about 4 years . the key is too just keep at it... start a project thats out of your reach and stick too it no matter how hard it gets. the key too becoming great is persistance no matter how many times you fail you have too keep trying. its like riding a bike... i can tell you that the bar in the frount turns and the pedals make it go but there is alot more too it that you have too learn threw experiance.

  • @hamsterhill Yes....

Learning to use Blender is just like riding a bike built in 1820 up a rocky hill in the rain. Anyone can learn to ride a bike ;p

  • @hamsterhill Basically like drawing and everything else.

  • @GeoJJx Would it not be like anything else? Mastering anything takes time, often years to reach a level of professional quality; yes of course you can, but nothing happens overnight.

  • Can you do a new tutorial with the new version, because my GB image wont load... at all.

  • Wish there was a tutorial on how to easily make character blueprints.

  • which one do you have

cause your looks kind of different

  • i cant found background image when i click to view

  • when i tried to download the picture, the link didnt work! help?

  • SACKBOY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXD

  • i dont have the number pad , and when i press the E button dont work

  • how to go to front view and side view and every thing

  • i use 2.5 and when i add the mesh"circle i can't do 'fill'. actually there isn't any option how to fill it. could you please help me out ty:p

  • @bilic15 What you can do is make the circle then select it all in edit mode. then just press "E" to extrude then right click so it stays where it is... then press "W" and select merge. this will give you the same effect

  • @bilic15 there is options on the left tool shelf in bottom there u have more options than before

  • @bilic15 The options come up on the left panel here after you create it, rather than a dialog: bit.ly k2Z1Vm

  • @bilic15 Sorry, youshit isn't letting me post that URL to the screenshot, but basically, if you press "T" in the 3d view, a panel should pop up on the left. With that open, create a circle, and then towards the bottom of that panel, there should be options for whatever you are creating. (works for cylinders, UV spheres etc, not just circles)

  • @kazunanakama thx :p

  • how do u extrude

  • @truefoxgin pressing the button "'E'

  • i saw this template in google images. And you are good

  • Please

, just slow down. You don't help me at all, I'm only a begginer!

  • hello, i have made a character using the mirror function so it wont take ong but when i apply a armature to the model, tthe mirror function is still on and if i take it off my character will be half. is there a way to mix that so my character will 100% full with mirror function off?

  • how do i mirror it ?

  • @zealiscool both

  • Got a question.. When I do circle, mine is 2D, while yours seems to be 3d.. What am I doing wrong?

  • I couldn't help noticing at 1:16 there is a mention of c++. Why c++ and use blender, which is python?

  • @PlaaTheAlmighty

i also know html, action script, javascript and GML ... i only know a tiny bit of python but i dont use blender for programming, i just use it too create the models for my games which i then export.

  • how do i move the screen? D:

  • @ThePivotGuyz took me ages to work out

    ctrl and the numpad arrows

numpad arrows to rotate the camera

  • I like your accent:)

  • thx m8 im subbing

  • Very nice thanks for the video this will help me a lot lol I used the default cube instead of the circle to model the character and ended up being bad I now I know

  • thanks for the vid, been learning blender for about a week and at the moment i can sculpt perfectly, but i need the basics in modeling and you help a great deal.

  • Firstly I saw this is a FULL tutorial, while doing the tutorial you should have said what keys you were pressing, some viewers probably got confused..like me. Like on extruding, and i can tell you made the image bigger, didn't tell the viewer how you did that. It's confusing for me, please make you videos more elaborate.

  • the link is broken

  • hey graet tut but one thing with the loop cut or whatever you said to MIDDLE CLICK last time i checked theres only 2 buttons on a mouse and yes i did try to click the scoll wheel and it didnt work

  • @bogangleify lol you have never used middle click before? genrally it is pressing the scroll wheel but if it dosen't work for you you can use alt and left click i tihnk

  • @bogangleify lol last time a mouse only had two buttons was like back in the 90's... most modern mice have at LEAST 3 mine has 5, one i want has 10.... soooooo unless your using an old ass mouse. Yes it has a scrool wheel which is the middle button. push it down. youll notice it clicks like a button. THE MORE YOU KNOW! :D *stars flash across the screen* YAY!

  • @bogangleify

    You sir just failed epically.

  • @bogangleify HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @bogangleify LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great Tutorial! Really well done. I can tell you're a kiwi also. ;)

  • @LemonSector man you sound like an ingrateful SOB its whinney little people like you that just make me not care

  • @hamsterhill

Do care hamsterhill!... your tuts are great! Better than most actually and your response time is superb. Don't take trolling (@LemonSector) seriously because everyone has an opinion and opinions are only worth the time it takes to read them. To postulate 'why' LemonStar would mark your tutorial is pointless.

  • @hamsterhill Thank's man helped alot, i didnt know how to extrude, but you know what they say, google is you're best friend, anyway thanks again and subbed.

  • the Ctrl-A thing wont work!

  • why does blender have all the axes screwed up. X is supposed to be left-right Y should be Down - up and Z should be forward and backwards. I dont like how its set up and its confusing. but its free so i guess itll have to do although i would kill for Maya or 3Ds max

  • how do i get a background thing like that and upload it to blender ?

  • 3:49 what key did you press

  • i say screw blender i might buy 3ds max

  • @Jaky2008PSN i have 3DS and its not a bad system although i find the work flow a little constricting, im pretty sure theres an evelauation version so you can try before you buy because its pretty exensive... and if you cant learn this then i wouldn't rush into paying for that.

  • re-upload de file please D: error in link

  • i love hamsters

  • when i go to view,it doesnt have background image. then i use the toolbox way and when i say to open a picture, the picture doesn't show. help??

  • Nice video. I have a problem though. My doesn't fit the mesh when on it's side (i'm doing a human being). What do I do?

  • Aha i get it, not ctrl a LOL! Ctrl + R! sorry

  • hi, um the control a thing dont work on my blender, updated or what? is there a better way to do it?

  • Damn it the website was not found!!!

  • When I try to insert a line whit ctrl a nothing happens am I doing something wrong?

  • wouldnt really work or make sense if you mirrored the circle?

  • you just have to do print screen and then save the image

  • the links is broken : (

  • when I try to add in the background image it says that I don't have any pictures. Help?

  • the link to the dontpanic image is broke... is there another link? I tried googling it but couldn't find it

  • it goes to fast :(

  • Lbp all the way

  • yes - it doesn't work - when i move the character there is the cube ( wich is 3d ) and the other part is 2d - like your seeing a papеr from the side :(

  • follow the tutorial again carefully make sure you do everything exactly as i do...

  • with what botton do you extrude ?

  • e button

  • i tryed with the " e " button but - the character gets 2d not 3d ;(

  • did you try moveing the mouse?

  • i tried - but only the cube is 3d the character is 2d ( it's like your seeing a paper :( )

  • how to apply a mirror modifier to the circle?

  • mmmm are you australian? haha.

  • no im from New zealand.

  • LBP IS AWESOME

  • Thanks a lot!

I was searching for an easy tutorial, and with the background image its very easy!

  • I'm loving this tutorial!

  • So, i'm using my own image for this tutorial, and whenever i change the top view, the side view gets fucked up and visa versa. is this just my lucky with shitty image picking skills?

  • this picture was specially made too work like this odds are most won't... the easy way to do it is to split your 3d view into 4 parts and then have a different angle from each window then box out the basic size of the object and move the beckgrounds so they all line up. then ou can just use each view from the different angles

  • how do u extrude again

  • Just press e in edit mode

  • how do you make it 3d mine comes out completely flat

  • did you follow the tutorial exactly or did you just skip threw it? watch it again.

  • one thing u forgot to mention is that u have to be in edit mode in order for the extrude command to work...but good tut tho...helped me a lot

  • yea i didn't mention that... main reason is because i assume some prior knowledge of blender.

  • How do I switch to top view after I've left it??

I can't get back to it.

  • you use the numpad to switch the view num1 is forunt num 3 is side num 7 is top... if its not orthographic(flat) then press numpad 5 to change between persepctive and orthographic.

  • i press e key but nothing happens how i extrude?

  • You may want to make sure you have more than one Verticie selected if not it will just extrude the one little vert. After you press E just drag your mouse down and see if it'll come down then?

  • thank you very much

  • Np, did it help?

  • yes =)

  • 9:00 looks like a lamp

  • lol yea its kinda dose

  • i know how to extrude but the bit after it where you make the extruded shape get wider at the bottom i cant do... at 4:17 HELP PLEASE....

  • woot! i managed to do it!

  • how do u extrude?

  • for extrude press E key ;) very good tutorial thanks fot picture !!

  • at the end of the video you select a vert on top, with the selection of the mesh circle, mine had no single vert. also when going back to the main screen I have no background image. How do you keep the background image and fix the single vert at the top?

  • you need to be in an orthographic view... press NUM 1,3 or 7 and then num 5 to change between perspective and orthographic. if you have many verts at the top merge them

  • Please tell me how to extured down i forgot

  • press "e" region, and move your mouse down.

  • I cant find a blue print please help me by giving me a link

  • It's in the description.

  • how do i add the referance image? i click the background image button and add the image but it doesnt shoe up, all i get is more options in the background image box, but no add image button. :/

  • i need help my numpad wont work i press 1 and 3 but nothing happens and finding character designs for anything is way too hard as well lol

  • Press Num-lock, bro.

  • Make sure numberlock is on or off. I don't know which one.

  • where do you download the image???

  • hmmm... i wonder... where would the creator of a video give extra information related to the video in a text format... if only there was some kind of description or something to the right of the video...

  • how do you scale?

  • press "s" in your keyboard then there you go

  • lol should have guessed XD

  • Comment removed

  • how can I change the view to Front view or Top view?

  • what is a numpad???

  • the pad with numbers on it on there right hand side of the average keyboard. you will need to make sure that num lock is also on

  • on the right side of your KEYBOARD is a block with numbers, thats the NumPad

  • its that thing to the right of your keyboard, the one with the numbers on.

  • its so hard :( i need! to make a person

  • Don't expect to get if first time dude... like anything it takes practice... took me 3 goes to make this tutorial.

  • best tut of blender i have seen yet :D

  • hehe thanks, check out the rest of my tutorials if you havent already XD

  • at the end of the video ~8:20 he says firstly CTRL+R then changes to ALT+R

Just to clear up, it is CTRL+R

  • Scroll to zoom

  • how do you extrude?

  • never mind

  • nice your using a sackboy from little big planet i love tht game =D

  • um i'm having a problem with it being 3-d, and the pictures isn't uploading onto the background. how do i do both of those things?

  • AMAZING MAIN!!! THANKS.. but i can't change my view only useing 1,3 and 7 :S why?? do you know??

  • you need to haev a keyboard with a numpad and you have to have numlock on.

  • if you hover over the top infomation bar and get the two arrow and drag down. click on system and open gl and click emulate num pad and then you can use normal numbers on a laptop or whatever.

  • thank you =)

  • thanks for the upload.

  • hey nice tutorial. if i had a model that i subdividedd a lot and then sculpted and then i duplicated that how would i unsubdivide

  • you could use the decimate modefire. but next time try useing "multires" it allows you too have different levels of detail for your model.

  • k thanks

  • why didnt you use split screen its harder to work when you have to pres 1 then 3 and again

  • yea its more of a personal choice but i find that i work faster in a single window and just change view when i need to then haveing lots of windows open that im not even useing. but yea you could do that... it just depends on what works best for you

  • im new could u tell me how to turn on split screen.....its a stupid question i know(but its smart.....) who said that!!!!!

  • a simple google search says that just move ur mouse to the edge of the screen, when the arrow mouse thing changes right click and press split screen.

  • ok ive got it... but now i press E to extrude but it wont extrude? i have python downloaded. is there any other problems???

  • make sure the vertices are selected.
