  • Is it OK to cut the spike higher up, as long as the coloration appears as a healthy green? I'm wondering if it makes any difference for someone who likes long orchid spikes.

    Also, does cutting usually trigger a new spike to grow out?

    You didn't make any mention of infection. I've heard that cutting orchids requires some steps to help ensure no infections set in, like sterilizing the cutter and applying some ointment to the cut part (anti-fungal paste or cinnamon). Do you do this?
