Sky TV has a greater income than the BBC and spends almost all of it on sport or on American imported shows. The BBC spends almost all its money on UK content. If there was no licence fee, then the BBC would have to have advertsing, and the adveristing income available to ITV would drastically reduce, UK TV production would plummet and we'd all be more more beholden to the Murdoch Family. I'm not keen on the idea.

@simhedges BBC have been advertising BBC BBC BBC BBC since Diana died in '97. Same time as the hot air balloon became their cutscene between programmes. It crept in from that era onwards. After that they saturated everyones' brains with sanctimony and Political Correctness. Haven't watched TV since 2005 and don't miss it.

its easy.ok heres what you do,buy yourself a cheap cctv camera,bought mine off ebay 6 quid.errect it above your front door.when someone knocks on your door turn on tv and look to see who its is.if your not expecting anyone or dont reconise who it is DONT ANSWER THE DOOR.

Arguments about the value of the BBC put aside, I can not understand why in this day in age it is the law that a person has to pay 135 quid just for watching a tv in his or her own home.

I think it is a grossly unfair and outdated system, especially for low income households.

I think it is time the BBC was either overhauled so it had alternative funding, or it was got rid of.

The BBC is a £3,500,000,000 job creation scheme which provides employment for middle class art graduates who couldn't function in a normal commercial environment. If you don't pay the licence fee you could face a £1000 penalty or jailed. This is not justifiable and should be abolished. Subscription to the BBC should be voluntary.
