  • From looking around the web, it appears WCAU's studio cameras as of 1980 were Thomson-CSF TTV-1518, which was also used by KNXT (now KCBS-TV) Los Angeles and WBBM-TV Chicago. Can't say as to KMOX-TV (now KMOV) St. Louis, but WCBS-TV New York in '80 was phasing out their Norelco PC-70's in favor of Hitachi SK-110's.

  • This was from the "Looking Good" era of CBS.

  • Can anyone apprise as to what color studio camera WCAU was using as of 1980 (as seen in the 0:23 - 0:26 mark)? I know it wasn't either the Ikegami HK-312C or Hitachi SK-110 . . . and the Thomson-CSF TTV-1525C can be ruled out as well . . .

  • Is it me or the blue wall behind him a gigantic chromakey blue wall for the news AND weather graphics? Is it also just the blue wall and a small 2-person anchor desk? I also noticed the studio camera has the teleprompter on top of the camera lens.

  • I remember that set when I was a kid, thinking the big "10" would come crashing down on the anchors. That set is screaming "Please chroma key me!"

  • Good stuff! Even for 1980, that was a pretty awful news theme. Seems like channel 10 was trying to be the anti-Actrion News.

  • I used to watch the 4pm movie with my Mom sometimes,I watched General Hospital On CH 6 ABC From 3-4 but thought Merv Griffin talk show was boring and would switch to the movie on 10,In Sept 1980 CH 10 Dropped the 4pm movie replacing it with syndicated game shows like the newlywed game,I would have rather watched CBS Repeats of One Day at a Time or ABC 'S The edge of night at 4pm like viewers in New York could but 4 whatever reason CH 10 Programmed the syndicated fare instead.....

  • Oh yes the lead story was the james bond type secret attempted rescue mission of Pres Carter of the hostages in Iran. Instead the plane and its crew crash and dies and Reagan kicks Carter butt in election that November.

Hard to believe almost 30 years later Terry Ruggles is still a Philly TV news personality.

  • Channel 10 had the 4 PM movie? How long did that show lasted?

  • @Julius121081 If you are going to post, at least use proper grammar. How long did that show lasted? What? Fuck off troll.

  • @sickandtiredofmorons Hey! Watch you mouth, boy.

  • @sickandtiredofmorons What show??? What are you talking about?

  • I USED to think terry ruggles was so handsome.I used to watch terry anchor the news on Saturdays nights,I also remember a very young rob Jennings I was 13 at the time,OMG! where does time go,I used to hear my parents say that and I now understand what they mean now, does anyone remember CH 10 airing a afternoon movie at 4pm

  • they did not carry CBS Programming at 4pm to air the movie, they tape delayed 4pm programs on CBS 1 week to 12 noon,ch 6 did not carry ABC Programming as well,It was a soap opera that was farmed out to CH 48 on a 2 week delay NBC Stopped programming at 4pm in 1979.....

  • Is that John Facenda???

  • No it is not. John Facenda retired in early 1973. I have just mentioned in this clip that alongside Ruggles is sportscaster Al Meltzer. Do you honestly think that Facenda would be at a news desk after 1973 (beside hosting specials and current affair programs on Channel 10) ?

  • Well all I saw was white hair and I forgot all about Al Meltzer, that's why I asked

  • Too short of a clip. Of course its Terry Ruggles as his name is displayed during the clip.

  • I'm sorry, but is the only one I got. I don't have any earlier ones. Not even with Larry Kane.

  • ...Also, I'm feeling that big "10 shaped" lightbox above the news desk. Nice touch for a rather spartan set.

  • This sounds like an interesting orchestral variant on the theme that WSB-TV in Atlanta used during this same time (early '80s).

  • On that count, you're absolutely right. There was a videodisc demo tape that was featured here on YouTube that had music from the same suite. If only we knew what it was called. Oh, well.

  • that ID is from the "Looking Good" (1979-80) campaign. and--

    IS

    THAT

    TERRY

    RUGGLES?!

  • Of course! I mentioned that already.

  • The WBBM Channel 2 News Music, otherwise known as "I Love Chicago, Chicago my Home" was actually composed by Dick Marx (Richard's Son)

  • I know. It was mymistake. I'll edit this later this week.

  • @stevieboy247 Actually, that package was used a few years later. The music package as heard on this intro can also be found @ watch?v=O2v6Wy59t68 on the CED stereo demo. My personal fave from that suite would have to be the WCAU Late Show theme.

  • @stevieboy247 Richard Marx has kids? No, Dick would've been his father.

  • Comment removed

  • @jhshifris1 Richard's Dad was what I meant to type in.

Geez, I hate screwing up on comments.
