  • I must have been sleeping. The composing was good, the background vocalist has an amazing voice and the mix was actually good. But, "Semper Fi"? What in the hell does this song have to do with my Corps?

  • this song is so strong

    he goes into my heart

  • @SkAtEvidsfromUS Thank you. The song has found a good home then.

  • AMAZING !!!!

    You are wonderfullllllllll

    Very Nice

  • @DocJosh123 Thank you.

  • wow a classic rock song thats not anti military. Of course your 2 young for the hippy era. By the way when i say classic rock i mean it has a classic rock sound. I will remember this when I'm in Paris Island

  • @huffmaster4000 My era was more punk than flower power, more's the pity!

  • Semper Fi Devil Dog!

    Awesome Song!

  • @CheversLisa Thank you.

  • semper fi brotha thank you for making this song

  • @verlooy You are very welcome.

  • 3 terrorist disliked this >.<

  • @MyModzzBePro There's no accounting for taste.

  • you really must try to get this song published on a CD for the troops. even if its the only one you ever do that with. its so great.

  • @WvSharpshooter You are too kind, but my deal chasing days are behind me.

  • Haha, i would rather see an album with you on the cover rather then watch bieber grope for the camera in leather jackets. It sucks how guys like you with real talent are getting less and less attention while all these brainless talentless are selling records that all sound the exact same.

  • @TheDoctorV2point0 What can I say? Sadly, we don't get to make the rules. Thanks for your kindness.

  • @periurban how long have you been singing? im sure sooner or later you will be noticed. or have you been turning offers down? would give me peace of mind to know you will live in a mansion one of these days haha. ok, ill try to stop commenting on your comments. but its sort of like standing next to a super star for me :)

  • @TheDoctorV2point0 Long story! Singing since 11. Gave up at 25. Turned down a record contract at 30 (for instrumental music). Started singing again at 45. Found YouTube at 46. Now 50. I get no offers. I get lots of nice comments like yours though, which makes it all worthwhile. I'm no superstar. I have a mundane day job, and no expectation of a mansion any time. You can comment and message me as often as you like.

  • how come this amazing youtube singer is still singing on youtube, when justin bieber gained fame by singing on youtube, just bieber should be slaughtered for this guy.

  • @TheDoctorV2point0 I'm old and ugly.

  • beautiful song

  • @RomulusDemulus Thank you very much for your nice comment. I am a bit too long in the tooth to be chasing fame and fortune. I just enjoy making my music, and I'm glad you like it!

  • WOW! great song......SEMPER FI! Thank all Soldiers for their sacrifices no matter how little or how great

  • @WvSharpshooter Thank you. Real sacrifice, by real people.

  • Awesome!Talented man,good job!SEMPER FI!

  • @PREDATOR0140 Thanks so much!

  • I can only listen to a little of such moving lyrics, because they always bring back memories of my brothers who fell and died by my side while I lived to return home and live in a free America. My physical wounds are nothing when compared to the mental challenges that I endure as I reflect on the honor I feel as their brother. Each time I refect upon our fallen brothers it always brings an epiphany of feelings, both of remorse and exhilarating honor! Thanks! Semper Fi!

  • @Engineer245 The song was written for an American friend of mine (I'm Scottish), and I'm glad it resonates with so many. I'm not a miltary man, and I know I can never really know what it is to be one, but my friend inspired this song and he was a marine. As long as we live in this world we will need soldiers to fight and poets to write. Take care.

  • This song kind of hit me in the chest and my eyes welled up...but Marines dont cry!So...... Semper Fi! ;)

  • @sbr76 I get it. Thanks for your comment.

  • Semper Fi, do or die!!!!

  • nice job i made a song up called semper fi

  • SEMPER FI!

  • Stfu

  • Well done sir.

  • Thank you. My pleasure.

  • Are you a Marine sir? of is this song just dedicated to them?

  • VERY well done... great song my sir

  • No, I am not a marine, but I learned about what it means to be one from a marine here on YouTube who I became very friendly with. He was a great guy.

  • kinda looks like you are not really singing it..looks like your lips and the voice are a bit off...anyway, still good job

  • Thanks, but look again. The sync is pretty good, and the main vocal and guitar performance is 100% live. I cannot be responsible for the minor sync problems that YouTube introduces.

  • I Love This Song ... =)

Very Good Work ... And Thanks For Uploading This ..

    SEMPER FI

  • You are welcome. It's an honour to get your thanks.

  • I get U2 vibes..

  • In a good way? lol

  • yes, in a good way xD

  • Very nice. semper Fi

  • good voice

  • is that really your voice? 0_o?

  • Yes. Weird, huh?

  • very...

  • What can I tell you? I didn't sing this way until well into my 40s............

  • Loved the melody, your voice and all the strings. Good job. you sound like a pro.

  • i don't like this type of music, so i apologise, but you did a good job anyway!

i do wonder though, how many strings are on that damn thing? it looks like you have 12 strings or something

  • Yeah, I only do this stuff for the money. You should check out my death metal jazz. Those are 12 strings.

  • i sure hope that wasn't sarcasm/joke cause i looked through some of your videos and couldn't find anything of the like :P

and wow. that must be hard to play on, 6 is enough of a problem as it is for me

  • I've done a lotta stuff, but no death metal jazz yet. There's no money in this either. 12 strings is no problem. You play them in groups of two, so it's just like six really.

  • Whoa.

    It shocked me.

    This was really really good.

  • It was written for a friend of mine who is a marine.

  • such an amazing song. i was wondering if you could do a remake of the theme song from a show called "Over There"

  • Thanks for your kind comment, but I don't do covers.

  • good song as usual peri~ did you write this about coquidave?

  • I did. He played it to the nurses in the veteran's hospital and they liked it! Cool!

  • for an old guy you got a good voice

  • Beautiful, Peri.

  • Absolutely gorgeous voice! Beautiful! Wonderful song!

  • Thank you. Such kind words mean a lot to me.

  • Honestly I heard this awhile back and forgot to add it to my favs, now today I remembered thankfully. It sounds just as good as the last time I heard it. It is just an amazing song, so is just about every song you have up. Good work man

  • Thank you. I appreciate it!

  • Wow amazing voice.. Semper Fi!

  • Amazing... Just an amazing song

  • I can see Dave in this. It is toughing it out.

  • He's toughing it out!

  • I hope he is OK.

  • Me gustó!!!

  • Breathtaking! I decided to check out your channel basically at random, from browsing someone's subscribed list. I'm very pleased that I did. This song is beautiful, and I think this simple but powerful lyric is going to stay with me for a while. Major respect.

  • I'm glad you found me.

  • Peri,

Sorry for taking so long to get to this, but just heard it and am humbled, honored, and totally blown away that you'd write such a beautiful song for me. Check for a YouTube Email headed to your box as soon as I get it written.

  • The honour was all mine. Take care buddy!

  • Yipes, this is extremely GOOD.

Plus, giving it away is tres hardcore.

Now I KNOW how much more I need to practise.

    Gulp.

    *apologizes to fingers in advance*

  • Nicely arranged song. You have a husky tone which really acts as a compliment to the music.

  • Thank you. Much appreciated coming from a fellow musician.

  • i dun get why more people dont know about you

  • I could tell you why, but it would take toooooo long! Maybe I should make a video on it over on my urbanblog channel.

  • yaaaa do it i would like to hear

  • awesome:) 5*****

  • i'm inspired :D

  • Absolutely loved the sound on this one. Great recording and mix! Oh, and the song itself is also really good, too! One of my new faves...

  • High praise!

  • Are you going to be doing another collecions of downloads soon peri?I would love this.

  • You can download it from the description right here. Right now. Go do it!

  • Phew!

  • Very nice.

  • Peri! I never know what to say because you always showcase yourself so well! I love your music sooo much! You're really a joy to watch, and a great man to go along with that. One of a kind.

  • Shucks. I'm blushing.......

  • That was awesome, sir!! I find it amazing how you can sing and play the guitar with such ease and confidence. Truly, you are admired by me.

  • You haven't seen the outtakes! (Actually, this one was one take!)

  • I know. You always do a wonderful job with your songs. I can't wait to see what you come up with next. :)

  • Peri, such a haunting melody. Absolutely wonderful. 5 stars and favourited.

  • Big sound on this one. The backing vocal was haunting. Excellent!

  • Thanks. I wasn't sure I could pull off the high C, but I got there!

  • awesome. great to see such a fabulous person writing such a great song about another fabulous person..

  • Great song. I'm sure Dave will appreciate this one tremendously.

  • Oh, I'm glad you got that part of it. I really hope he likes it.

  • who needs MTV when you have the periurban channel!?

  • No-one!

  • Dopeness

  • Good stuff

  • Damn! This is a wonderful song! I've had to listen six times before commenting! Such a poignant experience each and every time! Ok, so your vocal is on the track with the 12 string, yes?..and I hear some electric in another track, and then there is your wonderful falsetto...or did you use helium?

  • Guitar and voice - single mic (not ideal, but QUICK!) Falsetto. Bass. Electric. Recorded in that order. I also did another backing vocal that I didn't use (a kinda humming that just made averything muddy).

  • Great song favourited. Thanks for sharing.

  • gotta love those robert plant screams in the background

  • I had his noonads in a vice. He's bored with Led Zep now.

  • What an interesting song. I would absolutely love to know where you get your inspirations to write. The stuff you write is so different from typical love songs that are usually heard today. Nice job.

  • He did a video about that a few months ago, either here or on the Urbanblog channel. I think he said he has a sort of alternate persona that takes over and creates the songs and he just writes it down... or something like that. However it happens the result is great.

  • I think that's somewhat true of all creative folk - they never really have any idea where it actually comes from. It just comes and you accept the calling.

Of course, you can hone your talents and this helps you refine these kind of "transmissions" you pick up from "the creative ether".

  • Through refining your talents you can learn to master the presentation and production to get the message across - kind of like learning the hard technical skills of being a good public speaker or how to write well.

But the songs - the message - doesn't come from there. From learned talents or skills. Nope, not from there.

  • In a sense, this is the difference you're hearing when you say that these songs aren't like "your typical love songs" that can fill the pop charts.

The truth is, a lot of those songs are just "made to order" according to "a formula" in order to have something to publish, just to make money.

  • Just a job of work to make a living, not a creative impulse.

And the interesting thing is that pretty much everyone can sense the difference - it's not just imagined, there is a tangible difference that can be picked up and felt by all.

  • But where songs come from? Where great stories or any work of art comes from?

That is a question that no-one's ever been able to answer.

Sometimes folk try to pretend they have an answer and say something that sounds high-brow, clever and academic - just so that it looks like they know what they are talking about.

But creative folk know that's just basically people "blagging" to look like they know what's going on. They don't.

  • Ideas and inspiration doesn't really come from anywhere. Or maybe you could say it comes from everywhere.

Every artist knows that it's the most unsatisfactory answer possible. But, unfortunately, it's a simple plain truth.

It just comes to you. Somehow.

That's a most pathetic answer, true - and artists are, of all people, often the most dissatisfied by how truly pathetic that answer is - but it is the plain truth.

  • p.s. And it's also really annoying because the number one question - above all questions because, in the end, it's the only question worth asking - that all artists are continually asked about their work?

"Where do you get your ideas from?"

And they have absolutely no frakking idea how to actually answer it. ;D

  • Good points! I can explain the creative process as a series of intellectual and intuitive steps, but it feels utterly mysterious. I often look at what I've done and think, Huh? Where did that come from?

  • Yeah - and reading quotations from artists and creative folk over the centuries, they all basically come back to that same conclusion:

Don't really know how exactly, but it just comes to them.

I mean, I'm not suggesting it's "magical" or anything, though.

A scientist would no doubt rationally explain it as being s some kind of "subconscious process" which occurs at a level of the mind below your direct awareness.
