Thanks so much. I'm glad it turned out as good as it did. I still need to fix a few frets that still have some buzz to them (2 notes on the bass string).
I've seen some of the clocks you have addressed-I figured a dulcimer would be small beans compared to some of the wood cases that people come up with! I will have to look-I might have a recording here of a guitar/dulcimer duet with the words in. If so I can post it someplace.
"We are climbing Jacob's Ladder...soldiers of the cross!"
It's an old Negro spiritual, as far as I ever learnt. The last line keeps the same (Soldiers of the cross) and the first changes (We are climing Jacob's ladder....Every round climbs higher, higher....Do you think I'd make a Christian soldier....etc.)
We sang this song in the little church house when I was so little I had to look up to smile at the dog!
I made the dulcimer. It's my first attempt at making a musical instrument. I am, however, an accomplished woodworker, and antiques restorer, so it wasn't too hard for me to make. The top is veneered in curly maple, the back is solid maple. Sides and fretboard are walnut.
Well, she has some German family members, but she could be wrong, too. I don't know if the song is German or not, since I can't find any information on the song.
Thats a fine looking box

You did a great job building that dulcimer, it is beautiful and has nice mellow tones (over the internet:)

That instrument is a beaut! Did you build that? Mine is a simple spruce one, but is does all right.

Yes I did. It took me a while to do, since I was only working on it in my spare time. See the comment to "quintank" above for a few more details.
