For the record, the bass player for Pollyanna is Rayke Stapleton - she married one of the roadies from Ben Folds Five (Trey Hamilton) after Pollyanna opened for BFF in 1999 (I was at the Thebby gig on August 26th - brilliant show).
Apparently that marriage ended a bit over a year ago, and she's living back in Australia now. I had a chat with Matt Handley after a Waif's gig (he does guitar tech for them) and begged him to reform Pollyanna. We can only hope :-)
I miss this 90's sound! Give it another 5-10 years and teens will be fashionably sporting T's from all our fav 90's bands and claiming they love these bands since..like.. forever!!! (oh dear!) Just like they are today claiming the 80's and we claimed the 70's sporting T's such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Cream and Pink Floyd.... Watch this space! LOL
the memories of course! "il piss on every thing that you own" played at our wedding in Hobart, and yes we were ALL strong Pollyanna fans! alll our love Holly & Thommo!!!!
At 2:23 he's using one of those orange public phones we used to have. Don't see those anymore. What a flash to the past. Probably the best song of the late 90's btw. Thanx for posting.
i can't believe i found this clip! i saw these guys at the grosvenor hotel in Perth in 1998 and they were awesome, i used to have this album too! 90's aussie indie rock rules!
Did you know the drummer has been in a spate of television commercials of late? Most notable, the crash victim in that Max Walker car insurance add. I met him as an extra on the set of HORSEPLAY when he was just starting out. Very nice, talkactive guy!
ahh.. this song, meant so much to me when I was a 16 year old girl who'd just been dumped... I remember hearing it come on the radio as I's just fell on my bed, ready to cry... ahhh they were lovely people too :)

Awesome tune. Pollyanna's signature in my book.

Lead singer Matt Handley still wears that goatee/mustache setup today.
He's a nice bloke, I see him everytime a band he sets up for plays in Brisbane/Gold Coast.

I had to go looking through my CD collection to find out and her name is Maryke Stapleton.... But I'm sure they called her Reke for short.
I could be wrong but I think she married one of the band members out of Benfolds Five (maybe the guitarist)
Anyway funny that this morning I should get up with a bit of hangover singing the lyics Brittle then Broken... Ahhh flashback to my 20's :)

They still around? or consigned to the oblivion of 90s australian rock past?
sufferingindigital 3 years ago
Matt Handley (lead singer) released some solo stuff, including at least one album "Won't Get Over You." It's great.
It's on amazon.
