  • love the fact that he seat is way back unlike the other racing drivers especially stupid nascar drivers who cant corner properly

  • Lovely Driving!!!

  • in those years there was a lot of snow, big cars, and great pilots, today..... NOTHING.

  • what pace note system did he use? Does anyone understand what he is saying?

  • @7794filip He is talking in german --> He's from germany ;)

But it is the normal system like Left3; Right4; 200; ...

  • what would happen if u put a young walter röhrl in an F1 Car ?

  • @Pitchplus8 young röhrl would be bored

  • @schwalbstar young Rohrl would also die of boredom in todays WRC.

  • I just wish all video footage of group b was released! u do relize that peugeot teams recorded full onboards for almost every stage for review. imagine if they created a DVD from that!!!

  • He would be at 85%

  • not racing... just taking notes in jeans for the co-driver, for the real Race. Walter Rohrl true living Legend

  • 570PS for this Rally, met Walter in 84 when he won the Ulster driving an S1 (not E2) great guy, very aproachable, very fast but so consistent, we ran the car on secondment from Audi Germany and he drove the S1 at a ridiculous speed and it really was just a component test, the E2 seen here was awesome, so fast but so difficult, huge understeer at ALL times due to engine position, Audi Germany just kept increasing power to combat the better handling mid engined cars, 600PS in Portugal - last rally

  • Just think what Walter's doing there:

    1) Driving a car with around 600hp on an icy, snowy road

    2) Concentrating on driving, looking as far ahead down the road where possible and analysing the road

    3) Looking at the road and telling Geistdorfer the pace notes to write down for the stage

This is why Group B drivers, in particular, are the very best.

  • Monte meister Röhrl,

QuattroS1 to match the best combination.

as good as the best got exactly.

  • fantastic! rorhl has balls the size of melons. slight error at 1:59 shows how hard snow banks are. been watching some old sierra rs500 footage and it shows that big power, simple chassis is the way to go.

  • love this video! it's amazing to think it was tken in the 80's, it looks like it could have been taken yesterday!

  • Nice rare Vid keep em coming :D

  • Rare footage. Thanks for the upload. Anymore monte carlo stuff from the group B era?

  • 1:58 ułaaa.. grubo

  • @piotrek42gv no need for the restart button :P

my idols: walter rohrl and audi quattro s1

  • @Rik1pk Henri Toivonen and lancia delta s4. This is King and Queen !!!!

  • @piotrek42gv yes no doubt that :P

but i love Walter Rohrl style, 4 WRC titles with 4 diferent cars... no one did that right?

Lancia Delta S4 gives chills but the raging sound of that Audi, god :D

  • @Rik1pk Röhrl is 2-time World champion and 4-time Monte winner

  • @037racing with 4 diferent cars right?

  • @Rik1pk yes, Fiat, Opel, Lancia and Audi

  • @Rik1pk But lancia was 10 times world champion: P

  • @piotrek42gv and citroen is going on the same way

  • Comment removed

  • @Rik1pk But citroen ride in the WRC, and lancia in the men's B-Group.

  • @piotrek42gv true but citroen didn't have enough time to teste a group B car (Citroen BX)

  • @Rik1pk Yes you are right. In my opinion, B-Group was the golden era of motoring stories. Car manufacturers created some really great designs. And at the present time creates a plastic toy. And I do not like the current limitations of the FIA. It is not enough power and far too many stupid restrictions. They want to make F1 WRC. Sorry for my English: D

  • @piotrek42gv you'r english is more perfect than mine xD

yes yes. i wish i was born in that era, but i am glad to see Colin Macrae, Richard Burns and Carlos Sainz smashing the stages :P

FIA should creat a prototype group like Group-B but with more safety restrictions.... right?

I think the WRC ill be more softer than this... they need small cars, and wide axles, (nex wrc now) plenty of power without any aids, just pure simple skill....

  • @Rik1pk You're right. The FIA should reactivate the B-Group. thanks once again rallying to have grown very fans. However, the question of safety is only debatable issue. In the class S1600 also are accidents. Currently, we have much better opportunities for the construction of fences safety and security systems than 25years ago. FIA F1 puts on because there is a $ $.

  • @Rik1pk WRC dies needed Resurrection B-Group. And amazing drivers;) as Henri Toivonen, Walter Röhrl, Juha Kankkunen, Hannu Mikkola and many others. Interesting as advised by the WRC drivers in cars with the power of 600PS without electronic systems.

  • @piotrek42gv Just driving a car without ABS is dificult on hard breaking points, imagine 600 hp without any traction control and ESP and ABS. That's why that drivers are so so talented. I think the results of Motorsport should depend on the skills of the drivers, not on the machine. Sofisticated cars with no driving aids what so ever it's what i define pure and real motorsport...

  • @piotrek42gv For the reviews i had the oportunity to see and read about rally car's from 2000 until now, all the journalist said it was very easy to drive, more easy than a normal road car :S. And they compared to the 90's cars and that cars where mechanical and hard to control, so imagine group B.

If you look at this last seasons, Loeb has 7 titles because i doesn't have strong oponents or cars :S.

A rally with two teams :S

  • @piotrek42gv - You are absolutely right. And i hate the noise restrictions that are placed on the current cars.

  • @Rik1pk - you can't compare Citroen's record to that of Lancia. Today's rallies are so short with no endurance. Audi would have won the World Championship for manufacturers in 1981 and 1983 if the rallies back then would have been as short as they are today because retirements usually came AFTER the length of current events would have already finished by 100's of miles!

  • @JFBDriverTraining yes i know you're right. When i was a child I remember the days of Colin Macrae, Richard Burns, Carlos Sainz, Tommi makinen and etc, they just had problems after problems with the cars. So i just want to imagine the insane Group B Era...

After the big stumble with the BX, Citroen is going in the right way, so as Ford, i think. The VW group with the Polo it will be awsome and very competetive. I don't like the new huge, and tall "Mini" but in Prodrive factory they are genius!

  • @JFBDriverTraining - and 1985 might also have been a different story for Audi because Walter Rohrl would easily have won in Portugal (he hit trouble on the final night) and Hannu Mikkola would have won the RAC rally (he retired on stage 22 whilst leading. But as today's rally GB only has about 17 stages, and most of them are repeated over and over again, you get my point).

  • @piotrek42gv lol, but audi was first...

  • @piotrek42gv your King dies 1986 ... So Röhrl was and still is King

  • @Quattroowner King died as a king, and thy king is a normal old man.

  • @piotrek42gv He is definitly not a normal old man ... But you are surly a stupid man ...

  • A legendary pilot and a legendary car!! Very nice!!

    Thanks!!

  • just looks like hes out for a sunday drive

  • Great video!!!! Tnx!!!

  • Guida stile scandinava , spettacolare

  • group b? and no helmets intense

  • @TheRallycrossKing

Since Röhrl is talking very much at the beginning of the video while driving I guess it's the pre-run of the stage where he gives his co-pilot the information about the corners (speed, angle i.e.) which the co-pilot writes down. This pre-run is normally not in full race-speed so probably no helmet is required ^^

  • @polaxis84 Recce :)

  • @polaxis84 o dang he was still haulin :P
