My Pov,

War and peace:

He is talking about leaving someone, maybe to join the war. The June Bugs represent the enemy soldiers? The Theresa could be Mother Theresa and how we should praise, and be happy and if we do we humanity will be worth loving. The friends falling from the planes could be his allies in war, the sharpening of angles could be soldiers preparing and taking aim, but all he really wants is for all the violence to stop... and he cant sing of happy things until there is peace

I think it's more specifically about D-Day. June bugs could have many meanings, including hinting towards D-Day, June bug epidemic (though that happened after the war), or maybe something else. I think it's a bit of both of what I mentioned, and the June bugs are the demons/psychological battles he's dealing with. To cope, Theresa says to sing about happy things + reminds him that

"One day a man will spring worth loving." - Deliverance of mankind from itself for a future.
