They have the automatic bell ringer adjusted with too much air, thus the bell makes a complete turn rather than swinging back and forth. We would do that sometimes with the steamers on the Southern RR excursions back in the 70's. It's kinda neat actually!

Good footage. Is the bell supposed to spin completely around like that? I sure can't remember any of the steamers at Strasburg doing that...

07.35 and on - thats a better speed than you normally see her at. Thats what I remember from back in the day

@qlancer it appears to me that the part around 7:30 has been sped up....judging from the camera movements, the bell swinging (speed wise) and the weeds moving.

If you have the audio tape of CPR #972 I co-produced in the 1980's "Yesterday's Train Today" you will hear the ten wheeler slip in the same spot west of PQ. I was in the cab that day. What an experience!
