I have the card now and it sucks!!!!! The sound quality is awesome but thats the end of it. My 5.1 audio set isn't supported right. It sends the subwoofer sound over a normal speaker and the left back speaker doesnt get any signal at all. Tried everything. Its the card or software doing this.

Also, if you want to amplify a musical instrument over this card : DONT BUY IT!

This card has at least a 150 millisecond delay on the microphone AND line inputs. I cant play my keyboard over this..OMFG!

Quality wise Xonar seems to be better

1. Xonar D2 listed AP tested number of SNR 118dB, and they used Burr-Brown PCM1796 *4 (123dB SNR, Max. 192kHz/24bit)

2. Clara Plus only used 4 pcs 24-bit/192kHz AK4396VF (120dB-part spec.), my guess is they could only be as good as 110~115dB

LOL He's getting excited about an onboard Dolby decoder. Useless feature since that can be decoded in software. He's obvisouly unfamiliar with what he's talking about.

Wrong. By having the decoder built in, it means the decoding takes place ON the card. If it is done with software, the CPU has to do it. However, decoding generally won't use much CPU anyway, so he certainly is making a big deal out of it. But hey, Logan rules!

Both cards are excellent for music, but they are horrible for gaming. I used to own a Xonoar DX, which is aimed for gaming, and a lot of game just won't launch. Other will have fucked up sound unless you turn off gaming option, but then you loose EAX support. In short, Xonar is good for music and that's about it.

It really depends on what your doing. Cards sound much better but if your just listening to some tunes and don't care go with on-board. There is a Creative labs card that actually makes you seem like you have surround sound in your headsets an any standards headset. That can give you a huge advanctage in gaming. Over all its higher level of sound esp. if you want HD.

Craetive x-fi titanium (not fatal1ty) is mine! I like this card, bcause u can chance music and gaming mode. Xonar has Dolby Digital 4 music! The sound is brilliant (better than the x-fi) but its not so good 4 gaming headsets (of course better than onbord^^)
