I just loved this collection - I bought so many pieces of the men's. It was a perfect, sober, yet never dated collection. While quite staid, it does not look like creepy old man clothing. The fabric, finishing, and quality is impeccable. Flavia's "Highland trench" is pure Givenchy in the 60's, while Emina's suit with the bow blouse is absolute Yves Saint Laurent. Maier is a master of wide leg pants. For both men & women, he makes them float around one's ankles. His 2006 collections are my fav.
It creates space between the thighs, making her legs look thinner. The male models do it too (though, they end up looking bow-legged). It also makes the clothes move in a certain way, which photographs well.
There are elements of Yves Saint Laurent and Givenchy; though, to me, this is filtered through the vision of a German man. The natural colours, the classicism, and maniacal dedication to quality and subtlety are (seemingly) trademarks of German designers. I quite like the German perspective in fashion.
it's quite refreshing to hear an intellectual/ connoisseur addressing fashion from an artistic standpoint. It becomes quite redundant to find the same ill-informed remarks about couture.
Thank you for your kind words! I agree - personally, I get sick of mundane, asinine statements from not only YouTube viewers, but also many fashion reviewers (MANY cannot even use English properly.. Shameful, when you consider how many people immigrate to English speaking areas & speak their own language flawlessly, while using English to a higher standard than English speakers). I meant to mention the many "Le Smoking" looks in this show - PURE St. Laurent. It's a deceptively French collection.
