  • I live in St

Louis and until last year I could hear this on Classic 99. The station was sold and a different format put on. Sad! Bill Day

  • This sounds like an arrangement of "Bamboula." It's lovely!

  • This is a "re-purposing" of the second movement of Gottschalk's first symphony "A Night in the Tropics" by Hershey Kay (1919-1981) into a ballet "Cakewalk" arranged for the New York City Ballet. You should hear the original orchestration WITH maracas! There are several versions on YouTube. I personally like the Basel Festival Orchestra from 2008. By the way, I am 62.

  • My response .. I can see myself dancing down the street with maracas!

  • L M G - true genius. Lincoln's favorite, I believe . . .

  • I have not had the pleasure of listening to this wonderful music since I was 10 yrs old - I am now 65 yrs old. Brings back such fond memories, thanks.

  • @sbgardener5 I also. This is great American folkart. When Gottschalk wrote this, John Phillip Souza was writing march music even more than the Germans. Nobody even heard of Gottschalk. Now that I'm 66 I care little about military music.
