You have a few that try to cut corners, but they are quickly discounted. It would be hard for scientist to mislead people on a massive scale. It would involve the whole scientific community. They didn't predict the world was going to end in "2000" it was called "Y2K" stands for " Year 2000 " and on that day they thought all the computers that relied on dates were going to crash and instead of it going from 1999 to 2000 they thought it was going to go back to year 1900 and all the computers were going to crash. like banks and shit would shut down they never thought the world was going to end they just thought it would come to complete chaos.

by that time, ALOT of what we use today is based on computers. Not like your desktop but like computers used other kinds of systems such as robotics and warfare. People feared y2k because nuclear warfare could actually come into play (nukes require firing sequence codes that work with computers, so its a remote detonation and satellite coordination) THAT was the scare for y2k

that being said I think everything else he said is reasonable, although the Mayans DID consider the end of the 'long count' as a time of great change..

Why would the government want people to go insane, jump off buildings, destroy/steal things while the chaos of the supposed "Dooms Day" is nearing? They wouldn't. This is because it would bring an end to the economy, and sense MANY people dont believe in Dooms Day 2012, the government doesn't want to alarm people into doing something that may or may not happen. NASA lies, always has always will. They debunked the movie but not reality. How could he say there is no evidence for a pole shift, when the poles are shifting? He also doesn't mention about the Precession of the Equinoxes which scientists just recently confirmed. How did the Mayans know about that? But he wouldn't attribute any significance to that. What about the fact that our solar system is traversing space and we are bombarded with new energy particles warming up the ENITRE solar system?

Gravity is related to distance by an inverse squared law. As distance increases it's gravitational effect on other objects diminishes rather quickly.

Regarding the solar maximus or high sun spot activity which is due around this time period... Sure it has happened in the past but did we have alot of sensitive electronics back then which our whole society literally now rely's apon ..
