bullshit. this was an old amiga where you still used to so called "kickrom"-files, you could liturarely load any kickstart version from 1.0 to 2.0, 2.1 3.0 3.1. the menu was there all the time, if you had more then one kickrom file on the harddisk
@a1exh Right, It appears when you press both left and right mouse keys, while starting.
Also it clearly states you can choose Kickstart 1.3 VS 2.0 that is loaded from disk as the first part of Amiga OS.
(On other amigas that part is unchangeable in Rom/eeprom chips on board)
It allowed programs (and games), starting before OS, to have libraries and parts of OS available for use, even without starting whole OS running. And faster OS boot and libs, when part of OS was already in Kickstart chip.

It is a "trick" with the Beta1.4 ROM. Top left click with the mouse, then the computer will activate the Kick1.4.

This menu doesn't always appear right? If there is no disk in the drive and only one partition on the hard drive there is no requester right?
