@mrsscallywags I was using Hosa Cables when I started. Then I moved on to LiveWire cables and now I use Monster Cables. The signal is stronger in the Monster cables and they are very durable. Trust me, when you use Monster TRS you will hear a difference in the sound quality.
I really hope I don't actually have to define the word upgrade to you.
Btw, that's a sick ass board nigguh. I use Allen&Heath and PreSonus
but I've heard really good things about Midas Boards.
@chetoos008 That makes no sense at all! First of all, its insert cables, using a different brand of cable is not going to make the EQ or compressor "sound better" - an insert just combines more processors to the mixing board. As long as the cable is not cut, or has a "short" in it - it won't matter - Its not like a video cable-
Thanks whitendumb, right to the point i like that. didn't know about the insert, saw it but didn't get it. also the panning to a sub was a great tip too. peace
Excellent video man! I'm thinking about doing a video on this topic myself; but for small format mixers and Gate Compressors. There's not enough of this information on YouTube in my opinion.
i have a mixer with individual channel inserts but none on the subgroups, is there a way to do what you did there without subgroup inserts? but only using the one GEQ unit like you do
Not 100% sure, but i think you can use the AUX send on the channel you which to effect/eq (post fader) to the EQ or EFX unit, then send it back to another spare channel strip which will determine the amount of effect or EQ in the mix (like a sub fader) as it will output to the mix. Ha, maybe someone will clarify..
@Tonytnz actually, you never use an AUX for EQ. They are just for sending signals to specific monitors, effects, and sometimes kick and bass to a sub (that's one good way to isolate certain instruments to specific speakers if you don't have a crossover in the rig you are using to do that job.)
@Burgessaudio you are half right on the aux being used for monitor, effects etc. and not for EQ. If you are using an aux for a monitor, it is almost always better to insert a graphic EQ and then go out to the monitors, if your aux sends have inserts, or even just straight into EQ, then out to the power amp. So you can use EQ, and often times should use EQ on the aux sends
@lilman99025 oops, I worded it totally wrong. He worded his comment in a way that EQs were being used as an effect. I tried to correct him but I was not detailed enough in my comment :/
@Burgessaudio Let me correct this, sending signal to EQ via AUX and sending it back into the board is a very tedious way to send that specific curve to monitors and mains. The standard way of using AUXes is the following: AUX-EQ-monitor amp-wedge, AUX-effects-effects return/new channel(EQs on a regular channel usually have better options)-mains and/or monitors. AUX-EQ-speaker processor-sub amp-sub. If no processor, AUX-EQ-sub amp-sub works as well. yay
Why are you inserting a graphic eq on that group... instead of eq ing the mics on the channel strip? you should be able to correct frequency issues with the venice eq's on the channel strip which probably sound way better than the graph you are using... just my 2 cents... most live guys only use graphs to correct for various frequncy issues do to the rooms characteristics. Not for the mics. Let me know your theory behing what u r doing....cool thanks.
Great Vid man!!!! I have a question...I have a Y spliter cable with RCA L&R on one side. Im gonna add 1/4 jack adaptors to them, but which one will be send and which will be return??/ Hope you can help dude!!!!
In case you still need answer to this..use a continuity tester. Touch the tip of the T[ip], R[ing] S[leeve], then touch one of the tips of the RCA's. If it lights up, then you'd know which one is Tip and which one is ring.
You might want to spend a little more money upgrading your cables dude.

So in this case if you would want to insert another instrument you wouldn't be able to do right?
because the mixer does not offer another insert, is this right?
elpilito1990 9 months ago
@elpilito1990
there are inserts all over - you can apply to each individual channel, groups, and the master channel

@pozvibes
You can still use the channel strip! Im only using the graphic eq to "ring out" the mics -
This helps when u only have say one EQ like I did - and you have multiple mics.
And yes most live guys do use this technique -

my dear friend .
thats useful for when number of lapel mic 's require for u
we can reduce overall mic's feedback

@GFACE83
If you are trying to "insert" with that type of cable it will not work - A regular insert cable is wired differently - its not a standard Y Cable -
1/4 inch uses pin2 (tip) for send - and pin3 (ring for return
whitendumb 1 year ago
@whitendumb Cool thanks, saved me time messing about!!!!

@GFACE83 Little rhyme to remember: (R)ed equals (R)ight, (R)ing, and (R)eturn. Whi(T)e equals lef(T), (T)ip and (T)oo/ sen(T).
