I Was There!!! This was my very first live concert! I was behind the fence, but oh, the memories this brings back. A huge thank you to the one who filmed it and the one who put it on YouTube to share. Marie & I are the same age (there, I gave myself away.) So awesome !! Thank you, Thank you !!
This is one of my favorites to watch again and again and again!!!!!! I love watching Jay on drums. He is AWESOME!!!!! And very adorable!!!!!!
I also love watching the stuff that's not really part of the act... What is he looking for or trying to do that someone comes up and helps with?... Also the mic that he moves keeps banging him in the head until someone moves it. And what is that thing that flies through the air at the end of the clip... did he break a stick??? VERY cool!!!!
I bet he did! Most drummers go through several pairs in just one night. Jay looks pretty sexy throughout. It's lovely how they look after each other. Someone's growling at the start, Wayne did a move to hide the guy fixing Jay's drums, and they were all taking their cue from Jay. I wonder if this is how they jam at home.
I remember this all so well. I was 14 at this particular show. Someone asked about the date-it would either have been Aug 28 or 29 in '72. As others have said, we would stand in the blazing hot sun all day for a chance to grab a chair and run to a choice spot on the track. What may not be apparent here is that, for all our trouble, NO ONE got up in front of the stage. The VIP section took up the entire front section. The best we could hope for was a spot along the fence around the VIP section.
Ohmygoodness! I'm 18 yrs old again & standing / dancing on a small folding wooden chair, on the track in the grandstand at the Ohio State Fair!! We'd wait for hours in the sun to get one of the chairs & somehow were always quick enough to get dead center in the first 6 or 7 rows. This was for all the shows there that the Osmonds did. Thanks for such great memories!!!
No, they were free once you paid to get in the Fair. Twice a day. We'd gather at the grandstand gates as soon as the Fair opened, wait through horse races, then grab chairs from the stack & RUN for positions on the track.
Wow!! Free with admission to the fair! The Allentown Fair charged I think it was $7.00 or $9.00 to the 1972 shows. I still have my ticket stubs with the price on. I think I prefer paying like we did here to having to wait around to grab a chair and run.
As adults, yeah. It was part of the fun then, visiting w/other fans waiting. I was a kid in much better shape. :) No different than young people now waiting / camping out in long lines to get wristbands or buy tickets.
We'd eat dinner, then back to the gates until we could get onto the track for the evening show. Chairs were already on the track, the mad rush was on again for the best ones. Oh to be young again! Now we're all grandparents...LOLOLOL
WOW!! I'm with you sallyb...brings me back to the memories of Arlington Park in Illinois and Washington Park in Illinois!! Such fabulous times, and such a wonderful trip back in time!! ;-D Thank you, PaOsFan!!
WOW-OH-WOW!! I'm with you, sallyb...what incredibly exciting and fun memories! I have "flashbacks" of the same experiences at all of the concerts (back in the '70s) in the Chicago area - - i.e., running "for our dear lives" to get seats, waiting all day, then standing and screaming the whole time!!
OMG! the osmonds are super even today they are just as good as they were back then I didn't find out about them till i was in the 7th grade though. my friend vicki carper turned me onto donny osmond and if she's reading this thanks vicki. I even have now since met donny osmond what a sweet heart he is. kind as always to his fans osfanforever
Do you have the date of this clip? I saw the Osmonds Brothers (as they were called then) on May 28, 1972 in Detroit, MI. It was my first concert and it was totally unforgetable. I was 11 years old and a devoted fan.
These guys could have been such "rock gods" had they been allowed to. This video is awesome it really "highlights" their "true" talents and that they all really did know how to rock.
Of course Merrill had the best grizzly voice for rock and really knew how to belt out a song.
this is one of my favourite too with Down by the lazy river (°_°)

I never noticed that thing flying thru the air at the end. It does look like he might have broke a stick.:)

Yes but Jay was around 17 when this was done. Not bad for a teenager.
