i don't really think it was meant to be an adaptation of the book, just something based on the same idea, but if they had put it under another name,the movie would've gotten flack for copying the book. I really just consider them separate entities,i read the book before the movie and i like both, i just don't put them together as book and movie counterpart in my mind. The movie, is much different and more action intensive, but i don't think the book version would've made a good movie

It's too bad they couldn't have called this a different name..that way in a few years someone could actually make a movie Ella Enchanted that's actually based on the book!! The book is awesome, I don't know why they changed it so much! It would've made a great story just the way it was written.

Ok, I did NOT read the book. Understand that I found the movie interesting and good the way it was. Despite you being biased, I'm sure you would've liked it. For someone who has never seen the film, your reviews will prevent them from seeing something they may actually like. Even though this movie might not have given the book justice, but niether do your reviews to the movie.

well first i read the book for my book club and its amazing and then i saw the movie and its nothin like the book some scences from the book are not even in the movie and some things in the movie dont even happen in the book.

The book is fantasic but the movie is not as bad as people are making it seem The story line is rather differnt in comparison with the book with people like Lucinda the ogres and the elves but if you read the book craefully Ella says something along the lines of stabbing Char in the back if she was to marry him and was ordered too. The movie has aded onto the ending in a clever way yet it does stary from the storyline presented in the book. :D

At first i absolutely hated hated hated the movie because Ella Enchanted is my favorite book by far, and the movie wasn't at all what i expected. But I watched it again with an open mind helped me enjoy it better. I love the movie now as well, I just don't think of it as Ella Enchanted.

well it does go off track a lot from the book but it is a watchable movie. There are some stuff they put in that i wish they would've let out, such as the ending where they turned it into a musical but if you really love the book give the movie a chance, it's not totally different but still not accurate to what the book said. But eh, that's my opinion.

Hathaway doesn't portray Ella particularly well; she comes off like a simpering cheerleader with a plastic grin than a feisty and moody teenage girl sick of a curse that might kill her. The film is nothing like the book - the film is sickly.

Anyone ever notice how many books turned movies Anne Hathaway is in? I mean first The Princess Diaries, Ella Enchanted, The Devil Wears Prada, and even Becoming Jane she played a famous author. It's kinda weird although I've never read The Devil Wears Prada I have read the other 2 and the movies aren't very good adaptations.

Um, that way be, but being unable to show some things well onscreen doesn't mean you have to COMPLETELY change the entire plot and characters, creating new villains and a new world, and new characterizations....the degree to which they altered the story in this movie was utterly unnecessary, and simply stupid/ridiculous....really, it's almost dishonest to say it's based on the book, "inspired by" would be more like it...*rolleyes*

Definitely the worst adaptation EVER!
