Gotta love Penn State Football Story, they can make any game highlights look like a masterpiece. Even though Penn State showed some inconsistancy (especially in the second half), I think once the offense gets rolling, this team is unstoppable.
The offense showed some potential, but the O-line needs to get up to pace running the ball. Not every team we play is going to be as easy to throw on as Akron. Also, Clark needs to just settle down and not force some of the bad passes he did into coverage. Against a good team, that could kill us. Our secondary needs some work and our kicker was putrid, but our front 7 is EVIL. There are some good things, but we have a long way to go to duplicate last year's success.
I know that the offense looks sporadic, but if the defense continues to play that way, we can win with baseball scores. Both of our TDs against us this year are from turnovers. I see the offense improving by the Temple game.
It turned out that Akron is pretty good, they smashed Morgan State (I know, only Morgan State, but still 41-0 is like a BCS conference team would do). I think Syracuse is better than people think too. Our sacrificial lambs methinks are really bighorn sheep.
I do agree and think that 'Cuse and Akron are better than what people think, but it was still evident that we have a ways to go. If we can't get the run game going come B10 play, we will be in trouble. Our pass pro won't be as dominant against the likes of Iowa or Ohio State. If we can get the run game going, our offense could be quite good.
I think our running game will be going just fine by time we face Ohio State (who showed weakness against the pass anyway), and at this point I think we'll beat Iowa by a score like 14-7 because the Iowa offense doesn't scare me right now based on how the defense has been playing, but it's quite possible that day that all the scoring could take place in the second half. But also, I don't know if Iowa and such will be selling out so much on the run if PSU passes on them like they did these guys.
