Meh, I personally don't know. You can probably get a job with a basic knowledge of the language, but more in-depth knowledge is preferrable. If you want to be a game producer, I suggest atleast knowing classes, templates, inheritance from C++, and being familiar with a couple GUI's. If you're working with the web or databases, you need to know server programming, sockets, and everything like that. So it depends on what you're looking for ;-)

Float is 32 bit width and common range from 3.4E-38 to 3.4E+38
Double is 64 bit width and common range from 1.7E-38 to 1.7E+308
Double will reserve the space in memory vs a float
