Hmm, i have a SA2 190 loaded @ 1.2 and the bloody slider doesnt want to come down! Just sits there about half way. Have to use toggles or rears to slow the flight way down and then it drops.
@xphilip Could just be the wing loading. Do you have end cell closure as well? A few pumps on the rears should be the trick. Just be aware of what's going on around you and don't get in the habit of only concentrating on that slider. Remember, there are always other jumpers opening around you.
@emj0001 You are psychic! Yes, always end cell closures. Pumping helps those, but slowing the canopy down does both. You are probably also right about the loading. I am about ready for a 170 and that will bring it up to 1.3 which sounds a lot more optimal. Good advice about looking around - I am a pretty calm person While all the commotion is going on above my head I am happy to have a look around to see whats going on. Thank you.
Oh, and I'm not kiting. Just holding the risers. Now, I don't even touch my risers. I get better openings by just letting my Katana open on its own the way it wants to. The Katana opens ten times better than my Sabre 2's did.
Hard for me to answer over the internet. Get with a coach, instructor, or seasoned canopy pilot and let them watch your landings/canopy control. From a wing loading standpoint, that does not sound too aggressive but a person's ability to downsize is all relative to their abilities, and more importantly their judgment. I've known guys who at 60 jumps could have easily jumped a 170 at 1.23,but others who could not because of their ability, judgment, and honestly, talent. Be safe...
Looks sweet :) I just bought a brand new Sabre2 which I have yet to jump, and I can't say I'm not excited to see how it opens for the first time... This vid is reassuring though :)
Last weekend i jumped my Brand new Sabre 2 150 for the first time, did 6 jumps and every openning was nice a slow. I was expecting it to be hard from things i have read on the internet. Anyway, on almost every jump the two end cells on each side never inflated fully and the slider never made it all the way down until i pumped the breaks. A little too much snivvling i think, maybe i wont roll the nose in next time. Your openning look sweet!
i never roll the nose, just take care packing and keeping the slider way op at the stops. Nice soft openings only slightly faster than seen in this movie. (my wl 1,54)
Nice! Cells open so synchronised! im getting a Sabre2 150, im used to 250+ student rigs and they are like buses. Cant wait to get some forward motion on my landings!
ppl used to complain about the sabre1 openings...not sabre2

Give me a break. You're clearly kiting the openings.

I'm referring to how they open soft.....Not so much how they open perfectly on heading every time.

Just got a brand new sabre2 170. I have 60 jumps now and never jumped a 170 before. Got like 20 jumps on a 190.
Is this a risky transition?? Loaded at 1.23

Both of the canopies in this video are 150s loaded at about 1.5. I jump a 135 now and it opens even better.

My packing is crap and I always turn on opening my Sabre 2 lol.
What size is this canopy?

You stole my Linkin Park song! Good choice, though. The Sabre2 is the BEST MF canopy out there!
