32 was a force of incredible efficiency and they were not mercenaries, they were a battalion within the ranks of an internationally recognized army following orders that, being black, they had no option but to follow. No soldier deserves what happened to then. The treatment they have received disgusts me and regardless of how distasteful their actions are to me, I sympathize with them. They were Angolans whose wives and children had been raped or murdered and were recruited by the SANDF, fighting a torturous enemy, not for apartheid. Please, this message is CRUCIAL to understandind 32. I am S/African, was a member of 32 (though not among the elite fighting groups) and was one of many SANDF members...we were NOT mercenaries.
