Bloody hell! I just twigged that they're playing in the National Gallery of Victoria! (And then read your comment Rozcoz.) It's only taken me twenty-six years. Mind you, I did grow up in WA.
This is one song that helped to make me an activist. 'Love walks lonely by the Berlin Wall.' Gosh, the sensations of being a Cold War kid in the seventies and eighties come flooding back.
@TripleJProductionz Sure, I can help you out with some details - this is a Shane Howard tune, produced by Trevor Lucas and recorded in 1984 and released around the end of 1984 (hence the Xmas reference above) and the start of 1985. Cheers.
@Roscoz Its funny .. they come from Geelong yet the lyrics are world based. I recall at the time watching this on Sounds and the "guest" for the morning was Eric Burdon who was stoked that someone so far away from all the politics of Europe and the USA would write such "non provincial" thought provoking lyrics and that aussie tv would be playing it.
I love Aussie music! I also love "solid ground" by Goanna. i live in Canada but my sister, brother-in-law, their kids & THEIR kids all live in WA. i miss them & want to go there!
"Solid Rock" I think you mean? Great song too, they had several.
You will be jealous that only yesterday I was in the same hall that features above - the band is playing in the Great Hall of the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne - can't miss that ceiling, even after 26 years! :)
gret song , diffrent from spirtit place. i think goannna is one of the top five aussie bands ever.. There songs had a real meaning. just a pitty the did not stick around for longer.
Hi every one Shane does get to read your comments when he's not touring all over the place yes 3 albums but shane has never stopped writing or producing fantastic material and has several more albums - Another country, live in Ireland, beyond hope's bridge, time will tell & shane howard retrospect collected songs 1982-2003 highly recomend also marcia has one out burning in the rain
why do I know shane is like a brother to me and an ol friend
Thanks, hope to put more up soon. Meanwhile watch for Shane Howard's younger brother Damien, I heard some of his stuff last week and was impressed, he sounds alot like Tim Finn!
Twenty years later, and the lyrics and images are truer than ever. Australia is lucky to have people of such vision, concience and talent. Superb song!
I'm from the US, and I heard of Goanna in Goldmine magazine. Someone was looking for "Solid Rock". The article was interesting. Few people here ever heard of Goanna.
Go and buy some aussie music certainly beats anything thats around now check out Midnight oil,meo 245,Baby animals,Noiseworks,Goanna oceania especially the songs Dangerous dancing and Zanzibar. cheers Peter.

'twas a great song. Shame it got zero radio support at the time, and did not become much of a hit.
