  • great review! thx)

  • For $400, Chris Reeves seriously doesn't want you flick open the knife too hard? What the heck is up with that?

  • @iq201 yup it voids the warranty.....

  • @VideoScenario LOL " If you can rock a Sebenza , you are a pimp in my book, but I'm not so lucky"

Honest I'm 63 and don't know what you mean. I've had several Striders. Don't care for em. EDC is a Glock 19, 2 Mags, 400 lum Surefire and about a pound of other crap. Admittedly went a tad over board on the " Soldier wannabes " Big fan of Jerry Busse ( cut a damn car in half with those) Swamp Rat ( inexpensive) Chris Reeve & Emerson (wave) JUST not all that thrilled with the Strider pocket tank.

  • I think something most people don't talk about when choosing between these knives is functionality. Both are extremely fine blades. If you are just looking for a knife thin the Sebenza is fantastic and more knife thin you will ever need. If you need a tool that may be used from everything from cutting to a pry bar Strider is were its at.

  • Finally ordered a large Seb. 21 (graphic diamond plate pattern)

hope y are ok and start making some more vids.

  • The down side of " Strider. " Built on Mick's bogus Military Ops PR. They look like shit, weigh a ton and appeal to the little soldier wannabes. Chris is a KNIFE MAKER WHO PAID HIS DUES, and sells WORKING Art. ;P

  • i give this review a B+

  • Strider has nice stripes.

  • Just sittin' indoors, sunglasses on, discussin' knives. Baller.

  • 5 stars for the moon and antarctica

  • MM= 1 of the best bands ever!

  • tiny cities made of ashes- that track kicks ass!

  • great video its great to have that kind of info when ur spending $400

  • what is the case in the backround?

  • Flipping open the Sebenza voids the warranty? What sort of pansy ass shit is that? A knife at this pricepoint should be able to withstand a nuclear detonation and come out the other side better than when it went in. Meh I would get the SnG anyways, I prefer the style.

  • i was at a knife show today looking at both of these knives and i could not make up my mind which one to get... i am leaning towards the strider simply because its an animal of a knife and from what the dealer was telling me is that the warranty with strider is tremendous. also i should mention everybody that walked by at the show, whipped out their strider and told me i couldn't go wrong with a sng.

  • I own the SnG, and love it and have owned the Sebenza. One comment. If you use the SnG over a prolong period, wear a glove. The SnG is built like a tank with a flat grind. The Sebenza has the edge on the SnG as a superb cutting tool, as pointed out, due to being hollow ground. When I carry a 'big' folder I want to have confidence that it will carry out any task that is demanded of it. IMO whenever II use the SnG it tells me, "You can count on me. I will not fail you."

  • Gods above how tall are you? Your hands are huge!

  • Great Reviews I have watched a few of your vids in the past and had to subscribe.

  • you are awesome dude

  • if your smart you will just keep them in the original box and hope they go up in cost, because they will never go up in value.

  • If you are not sure which knife you want, you should absolutely go and buy a chris reeve umnumzaan. It is a fantastic compromise between these two knives.

  • Great job with these two blades. This is one of my favorite reviews

    Keep up the good work

  • Hey question. Does the Sebenza open fast and smooth? I can't decide between the two they both seem awesome. I want the one that will never open in my pocket and conceals better, cuts great and is more tactical. Which would you suggest?

  • Very very good comparison!!! You need to make more knife videos! Thanks

  • great video.

  • My sng is a lot stiffer than yours appears to be....i cannot flick mine open with ease...did you loosen the bull pivot? Will it loosen up after it gets broken in? (my knife is only a few days old btw)

  • What do you think of the Kershaw Skyline?

  • i like benchmade better and the bench made is 100 percent American made, the strider is cool though

  • What was the last thing you meantioned? Ball detent? What is that?

  • @traderjoes It's a little ball bearing put in the lock bar that sticks into the side of the blade when closed. It holds the blade in so it doesn't open in your pocket. Hope that answers your question.

  • What kid of glasses are those? Do any Sebenzas come with a convex grind?

  • Throw on a hoodie, and you could be Phil Laak's twin brother!!!

  • do u think the linerless G10 side makes it weak? how tough is G10?

  • @john1112112 nope. G10 is pretty bomber stuff... along the lines of carbon fiber.

  • lol...whats with the shades ?

  • Hi there....great vid. About the flicking part: I heard that chris reeve isn't against flicking the Seb.

    Thanx for the vid though!

  • i in the rescue field, what is it you do on the river?

  • I would keep the Strider because well...flat grind is 1000000000000x better than hollow grind. Simple huh lol. If the Sebenza was 3/4 flat or full flat I would'nt buy another knife again.

  • whats your opinion of the Umnumzaan?

  • Hi man. Like ure reviews. I was thinking of Spyderco Military Titan. How do u think that will compare to the Sebenza?

  • There is no comparison between the two really. There is Titanium and S30V and that is it. The build of the Sebenza is waaaaay more thought out and expensive to accomplish. I'll be posting a video more about the ins and outs of the Seb really soon... that should help explain things!

  • Are you fucking high? You're talking like you just smoked an ounce and grabbed the first two knives out of your little treasure chest and fell in love with them.

  • Hey Archman, who makes that padded box you have for your knives. I swear I've seen that on one of the sites but I can't remember. Thanks

  • @JRNY1605 It is a "Pelican Box." good stuff!

  • Awesome, thanks bro

  • Darrel Ralph 'Trigger' is superior to either. Neither Reeve nor Strider offers pivot bearing. Another possibility to consider if you value getting the knife out quickly and reliably is the Emerson w/ 'wave.' Nothing beats the emerson in that regard (other than fixed blade).

It is funny that all the gizmos and gimmicks to 'improve' folders are beaten hands down by getting rid of the pivot altogether and going back to the tried & true, simple fixed-blade knife.

  • Because he's a badass, seriously... Just look at him HaHa

Great video man. I've always loved CRK but their warenty is wacked out. You should check out Zero Tolerance, Ken Onion is putting out some wicked designs with Stryder

  • why the hell are you wearing sun glases? : )

  • Get the Spyderco Sage 2. I dont have many expensive knives in terms of Sabenza or Strider prices, but the Sage 2 is such an awesome knife. I know the tolerances are a bit better on CRK, but for much less money, you get a full titanium handle with great ergonomics, a full flat grind S30V blade, and great fit and finish.

If you like the Native, the Sage 2 will make you happy :)

Also, I didnt know CRK had that warranty issue, what a turn off :(

  • I agree on the fact that Strider's warranty is better than CRK's. It seems to me Mick Strider would be embarrassed to find out that one of his knives has failed. Whereas Chris Reeve would just get agitated.

  • a jewel is a stone ,not a tool ha haaaa

  • Arch, do you have any info on a Srider PT?I have a small Sebenza and was thinking of getting a PT to have. thanks in adavance, Jake.

  • I had a PT CC for a few months... they are SMALL small. ...but you never know til you try! I prefer the Sm Seb.

  • Good Video man~

  • Since this video is over a year old now, has your opinion changed on which one would be first pick? I'm debating on which one to get in the near future, and I'm leaning toward the SnG. What would you think after another year?

  • I'm carrying a Lg Seb. 21 now... I favor it over these two easily!

  • Do you have a Hinderer XM-18? Sounds like it would be your type of knife. I haven't seen a good review of one on Youtube. If you have one, it would be cool to see your review of it.

  • I really have zero interest in the Hinderer. If you read the "passaround" thread on the BF thgere are lots of pics and very detailed reviews/descriptions. I really appreciate a thin grind, or at least a thin edge. I like a bombproof handle/pivot and a more delicate edge on folders.

  • modest mouse!! good taste in music :)

  • @shadow7311 Fuck Modest Mouse! Listen to SLAYER.

  • But can it cut a gum wrapper?

  • Is that a hiphop musician??? haha... notice the comparison is between a Regular Seb & an SnG... I since have discovered the joys of the Lg 21... perfection.

  • I thanks for the response, I own a few Knive Klotzli Benchmade and Mcusta, I own a rare Spyderco Michael Walker C22, iv'e never carried or used the knife. as for the Sebenza you wouldn't beleive the price for that knife in the UK $ 640, but i'm going to get myself a Paramilitary on the weekend, I like that compression lock on that knife. I have always disliked a back lock knife i could never bring myself to buy one.

  • I'm not a fan of backlocks either... but I reckon they are good for lefties! It's super cool that Spyderco has introduced a lefty Military... Being lefty may be great for sports, but all things considered, I'm sure glad I'm a righty!

  • It's always great to see and hear a very honest opinion when reveiwing a knife V knife. What I would like to ask you is what do you think about a comparison between a Spyderco Paramilitary and a Sebenza, when you consider the price difference of about $260 less for the Spyderco, do you think the Sebenza to be worth it's price tag.

  • Its a tough call.. I like the Sebenza better than the ParaMilitary, but mostly for luxurious reasons. The Sebenza lacks no finishing touches and I think it is a no-compromise design. I do think it is "worth" almost three times more, but in form more than function.

  • Just wanted to mention that Strider's quality control is horrible. Chris Reeve quality control is excellent. I know this from experience dealing with both companies.

  • It's a tool, not a jewel.

  • Thank you for the comparison. I did make the same choice with the benfit of your

    explanation.

  • good taste in knives and music man, I love modest mouse.

  • SNG vs Sebenza??? The sebenza seems more like a gentleman's folder whereas the SNG is more like a tactical folder. The just seem like two different types of knives.

  • You asked for a comment so here it is: This was an interesting video that covers good points on both knives. I am however still on the fence as to whether I can justify spending that much on a knife.

As it stands now I have the option of getting a second hand SMF for less than retail and the clock is ticking... aaah decisions decisions decisions. Thanks for the reference material.

  • If you have not or do not own a Spyderco Military, pick one up first... If you think you may have problems with the size, try the Para Military... The Military is my first pick though... both are damn close to either the SnG or the Seb in quality @ less than half the cost.

  • I will look into it. Cheers.

  • great video.make another one please.your very logic on knives is realistic,.

  • As usual Archman-- great, informative video.

My EDC is primarily a Microtech Amphibian MA, Black D-2 DLC coated blade. Love it!! Workmanship is not the caliber of the knives you're wielding in this video-- but still a nice practical EDC nonetheless.

For an occasional change-up I will carry a Strider SnG, Surefire Delta folder(highly underrated) and Chris Reeve Umnumzaan.

  • Ive had some expensive OTF Microtechs and Benchmade Autos but I had a tough time using them bc they were so expensive.

I just lost an awesome Kershaw nrg last week. I would have cried if I lost a more expensive knife like the ones u have. That being said I would prob be more careful w/ a more expensive knife so maybe it would be better to have a high priced one.

I sure wouldnt mind having a nice frame lock like the sebenza though.

  • Great review.

I disagree that stroders are stronger however.

Pivot is the weak area in many folders, however, when it comes to such high end knives there are no issues.

Sebenzahas been the grail for 22 years, and i have never heard any snapping in two.

Two slabs of titanium > g10

  • I live on earth LOL!! Where people don't judge each other lol.

I don't care what the circumstances are with Mr. Strider all I care about is he makes KICK ASS KNIVES!! :D

    Peace out

  • Dupek,

Nobody cares if Mick was or wasn't, his knives are still the same. By the way, who says "You obviously have too much money?" Wow, what an insult! That hurt his feelings I bet!?!

You have money! That makes you a loser! Sounds like jealousy to me.. Poor people always put others down for buying items the poor person cannot.

You, sir, are the idiot. Or should I say, broke idiot. Get a job you useless troll.

  • Mickey Ray Burger, aka, Mick Strider, got caught lying about his military background.

I think that says a lot about a man's character.

    You don't.

    End of story...

  • first off FAG no one cares. he makes some of the best knives available on the market.. perhaps, the best. and how does lying about your military background have anything to do with his knife making skills ... NOTHING. obviosly lying would be a good advertising technique considering they are hard use knives military personel could benifit from using. plus they have that coolness factor... obviosly YOU would no nothing about.

  • Strider lied about his military service. You think it doesn't have anything to do with the character of the man and his company. I do. End of story.

Next time learn to spell. And suck my balls.

  • Im saying no one cares about his lie... he makes a good product and thats all ppl who are buying should care about . and no i dont see it... everyone lies, everyone makes mistakes were human. and im not going to waste time trying to spell words correctly. i also have no desire to suck your balls and if i ever did i would have a hard time looking for them cuz thers no fuckin balls there. btw dont post fukin comments like that no one wants to hear this.. im done arguing with you dont...

  • make yourself like an idiot do NOT reply to this comment

  • You have obviously never handled one. Your personal attack is pathetic. I unplug my nose at you and fart in your general direction!

  • haha

  • Man what happend to tolerence lol.

Don't judge but then again you're letting your insecurities all hang out! I kind of feel sorry for you DupekChopra :/

Back when I first saw the SNG in a brick and morter store I drooled over it in the local knife shop for a while.

I saved for mine for a while more before I finally got one you do the same ok DupekChopra. Best knife ever!!! P.S. Breathe bro embrace a calm state of mind. Don't say dumb things.

    Peace Out!

  • You have a "Local Knife Shop"???

Where do you live, in Beverly Hills?

  • I know.... you need a strider for the left pocket and a sebenza for the right........

  • nice video. wish i could get one. its hard to come up with the money and then justify spending it like that.

  • what do you think of bradley knives like the alias 1

  • Never owned or touched one.... If I was looking for a "sebenza alternative," I think I would try out the Buck Mayo 172 first... Looks like a GREAT folder!

  • what is your favorite place to get strider knives?

  • I strongly recommend the used market.

  • That was probably the most honest mellow review of those two knives I have seen, I am going to check out your other vids. I like how you opened with something like I never thought I would be talking about knives on the Internet. That said I have own over a dozen 14 to be exact sebs, and I will have to buy a strider next. I just never found them attractive. But I want to see what they are all about now Thanks for the review.

  • dude perfect review.

  • I agree with most of your views. I wear prescriptions sun-goggles all the time and listen to Modest Mouse. The Sebenza has been a "Grail" knife for me for years, but then I always find something cheaper that I would rather have... The Strider is such an ugly "redneck" knife, with camo - I bet they're really nice, but I'll never shell out the duckets for a Rebel Flag clipped to my pocket.

  • I agree that the camo seems ugly.. I don not own a single piece of camo gear otherwise... I bought it to see what all the fuss is about, and I find it to be superior to the Seb in many ways. The seb is SURELY more refined and gentlemanly...the blade is a better overall design. The SnG fits my hand better. They are both tools, they have aspects that beat each other in different ways... Currently I don't own either... I'm edcing a Mnandi and a Spyderco all black Paramilitary...

  • I checked your Para-Review, and it was a great review... I just posted my own Para-Review, to express a different point of view, or "D-POV". Check it out!

  • Great review !!

  • great comparison bro! i've never owned a sebbie, don't know if i ever will, so i can't make a comment about the two. i have owned quite a few striders and never once been dissapointed.

  • Will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark?

  • Thank you for the great review. I just have one question, could someone explain in detail how the strider is tougher? I would think that the sebenza would be just as strong or stronger than the sng because the sebenza has two 1.5 in ti slabs and the sng only has one. All answers are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  • Great reveiw.

  • How you like your sng, would you say there worth the money?? please reply i not sure what to buy!!!!!!!

  • You've got two very awesome knives there man, I hope to own both someday soon.

    Great video.

  • Thank you,

This is the most educated and relevent knife review that i have watched, please dont feel inhibited from continuing along these lines in the future.

  • How did you learn to handle a knife so well? I think this video was very intelligent and is more than just a comparison. Thank you

  • THANKS for the nice comment! I reckon I'm pretty good with my hands... but I also jack with the knife a LOT... The SnG just offers that kind of maneuverability though... I believe it to be the finest EDC available. My day to day work, guiding class III-V whitewater rapids means that a knife is the most important lifeline in an entrapment situation... using a knife needs to be as efficient as possible, so I make sure that I know ALL of the in's and outs of its function.

  • Sunglasses are necessary ?

  • Sex isn't necessary, but it sure is nice! I put shades on when I wake up and take them off when I hit the hay. I actually have to think twice to realize I have them on most of the time... I ALWAYS wear them when looking at a computer... sometimes I take them off for vids though.

  • lol

  • intelligent & educated

  • Awesome review, thanks. Very informative. I have the large Sabenza and I agree it cuts very well. I do not own the Strider, but who knows maybe one day I may. Again lots of info, thanks.

  • SnG is on the way! Again great video!

  • Fantastic video by the way, I just realised I did not say that in my earlier comment. One of my favourite knife videos.

  • I read a great analogy on bladeforums once. It is like comparing a racecar with a tractor. The racecar will suck at being a tractor and the tractor will suck at being a racecar. The strider and sebenza are just too different IMO, but very good at their specific roles.

  • Arch, I wouldn't worry about the negative comments. I really don't think you do anyway. For the record I don't own an SNG, I'm sure the're a fine knife. The other guy got it right though, Chris gives you an Allen key WITH the knife, I think that about says it all about his confidence of his knives.

  • You do some excellent reviews. Just got my first Sebenza and I was not disapponted. What a perfect cutting machine. Fit, finish, and grind were flawless as advertised.

Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts

    CMR

  • Modest Mouse ROCKS!!!! (it's playing in the background of my AFCK Benchmade review video too, check it out!)

  • Yeah, Modest Mouse is awsome!

  • If you ever want to part with that strider, contact me. Ive got quite a few different blades.

  • I don't own either one but like the look and durability of the strider.

What is weird is on the forums most people that own both prefer the seb over the SNG. I would say 9 out of 10 people prefer the seb. Go figure?

Anyway I want the strider and that is what i am going to get just because i don't want a wimpy knife for that much money that can;t be flicked open. HERE THAT CHRIS REEVE. YOU LOST A SALE HA HA HA HA!

  • I think Chris will live, haha.

  • Yeah,, with THAT kind of guarantee on a $500. knife he will live well.

  • Comment removed

  • You're saying it like Chris is running some kind of scam. I've never heard of anyone being dissatisfied with his service. So what if he doesn't offer an unconditional guarantee on his knives? Strider is pretty much the only company that does, at least on folders. Strider designs their knives to deal with heavy abuse, Reeve doesn't. I've never had anything go wrong on a Reeve knife. The whole flicking thing is a rumor as far as I'm concerned.

  • Strider doesn't want you to disassemble your knife. If it's taken apart and you send it back they will charge you money. CRK includes the allen key and encourages you to disassemble and clean your knife. That tells me that they have more confidence in their product.

  • Does that fact that they think flicking the knife open is too hard on it also tell you they have more confidence in their product?

  • When I sent in my SnG for repair it took over a month. Whenever I called in to check on the repair status they sounded annoyed that I could ever consider bothering them on the phone. After it came back the SnG still had bladeplay and when I called back to complain it took over a week of calling before anyone picked up the phone. Maybe the customer service person was out sick, but I didn't want to deal with them anymore.

With CRK, I never had trouble contacting them and they are always friendly

  • i have slight bladeplay in my sng, but it's not even a big deal. you can feel slight play, but you don't even see it move. i'm not even going to bother sending mine in until something breaks.

  • I'm not even talking about the knives here, overall they are both really high quality and worth the money if you can afford them. I'm talking about the customer service experience, and the fact that Strider doesn't want you to disassemble your knife for cleaning, while CRK includes the allen wrench to open up the knife.

  • Great video! I tried to tackle the subject myself... I agree with you 100%

  • At first I thougt you were a douche, because of the shades and the face shot. But I have to admit that what you said made sense to me.

    Nice video.

It helped me to choose an SNG first. I see the sebenza more like a "modern gentleman's" knife, when the strider is a tank.

  • ha ha ha... I am constantly misinterpreted by my appearance. Most of my vide are done in the am, and I thought it would be "different" if I sat down and had a cup of coffee "with" the viewer... I think is is a little more personal and less formal... thanks for the compliment!

  • "the perfect cuting tool" sure is not a folder.

Anyway, nice knives. Too expensive for me ight now, still, on my wish list..

  • A wiser fella than myself, I called him "grandpa," once said "the best knife in the world is THE ONE YOU HAVE ON YOU." ... that said, I find a folder easy to carry, and I'd like to have a nice one. If I'm camping or backpacking, sure, a fixed blade is more suitable. I slip a nice folder in my pocket most days... for general purpous duties one of these folders would be hard to beat... I now consider my Spyderco Military in S90V superior to either the Seb or SnG.

  • "The perfect cutting tool" is subjective. To me, it is a folder. A fixed blade is not practical to carry daily, for me. So saying it is not a folder, is incorrect. It is like saying [insert knife here] is the best knife ever. The best knife ever will be different from person to person.

  • Didn't Tactical Knives Magazine call the Sebenza the best tactical folder of all time? I'm pretty sure I read something about that on wikipedia...

  • with this one negative comment out of hundreds of positives you'll understand I'll take it with a grain of salt.. I wear shares in the shower. monotone? probably. my vids are different from the rest and they are for people who are equal.. thanks for the critisism though!

  • Take your Sebenza to a wedding.. take your strider on deployment!!

  • hell yeah i agree completely

  • Thanks for a great video mate, I've owned many sebenza's and your review really helped me to make the decision to get a SNG and I'm not sorry I did. Very different from each other as you've eloquently stated.

  • I pick the strider

  • i use to like more the Strider, now I don't know. eventualy I'll get both...

  • me to haha i know its kind of crazy to spend that much on pocket knives but they are my passion right now so it is completely justifiable :)

  • expensive passion, but i love the folding tools:)

  • great video thanks both awesome knives :)

  • What's that Modest Mouse?

  • The three tunes are from my fav. MM album, "The Moon And Antarctica."

First Song is "Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes" GRRRRREAT tune!! 2nd is "Paper Thin Walls"...also incredible. 3rd is "I Came As A Rat"... what can I say... perfect.

  • its a rock group

  • Just a short warranty story from my personal experience.

Chris Reeve: I bought a large Sebenza 21 and there was a small problem with lockup. Called CRK and they said send it in. Came back in 5 days free of charge.

Strider: Bought an SnG two days ago that had bladeplay (just a tiny bit). Called them and they said send it in with $15 for return shipping.

I have no doubt Strider will take care of it but a brand new knife should be fixed for free

  • Hey what's up with the sun glasses? You hiding a black eye or something? LOL

  • I practically wear shades in the shower. I'd rather not wear them in my vids, but I forget.

  • Hey, just stumbled upon your videos, and have really enjoyed them. I have a lot of great things about Strider knives, unfortunately way to expensive for me (right now). I awaiting to recieve a Benchmade 710, any opinions on this knife? I am hoping I don't regret purchasing it?

  • Do you ever adjust the pivot screw? What do you use to adjust it? What kind of lube do you use?

  • This "CC" one was loctited from the Strider shop. Never needed adjustment. I did have a standard SnG which I took completely apart to check it out. I had a lil' Ti spanner. for lube I use CRK's fluorinated grease with liner/frame locks.. Its pretty thick, and they need all they resistance they can get.. with others I use Miltec1. I use teflon tape to keep the pivot where I like it.

  • Good review man, you actually know what you're talking about. I might just buy an SNG based on your review. I've had a sebenza for years but got tired of the titanium handles and finally sold it. My only problem with Strider is their quality control. I've heard it's crap. And the stripes are a bit tacky IMO.

    Good day.

  • The stripes look totally shitty in pics, but in person they are fine... even cool. I would say that I don't prefer stonewash over the stripes... I do like to scotchbrite the striped blades to help with rust resistance though.

  • awesome review man,

starting to enjoy them very much.

And good god, you have some large hands. If I hadn't read the title, I would've thought you were holding a stride pt and a small sebenza instead of a sng or a large sebenza.

  • that's a great review and good points. After owning both I agree. For an EDC in some kind of urban environment I'd go sebenza all the way, I just prefer the action, geometry, and design of the knife more. If was going into battle (or for a camp outdoor folder) I'd go with the strider. Anyway lots of good points.

  • my morning bagel...I might start doing that with my knives, why not.

  • Perfect vid man. Good stuff! :)

  • Love the Striders. Have an SMF. By far superior in strength to anything out there. Great review.

  • Very good review and comparison of both these knives. See you around bladeforums.

  • both are awesome knives, there's no way around that.

  • yeah i think it is kind of wimpy that you cant flick a seb.

  • awsome knife reviews you should do more
