@popdropshake the referee lost sight of the puck, and when the referee THINKS about blowing the whistle, is when the play is done, not when the whistle is blown

This one isn't as bad as the one against the oilers. The ref called a hand pass off a faceoff when there clearly wasn't. He didn't see it cuz the ref who called it was at centre ice and the faceoff was in the zone

@iamsthanet Well, the Pittsburgh-Detroit series, the 09-10, was called "The Bettman series". Say he did, there would be huge uproars, massive loss of ratings, bettmans ass fired, and the league re-inspected. Don't think all that is worth a couple more hundred people watching.
if i had a dime for every time my favorite teams (not gonna mention for fear of LOLZ U LEIK WRONG TEAMZ) got calls that screwed them over in Joe Louis (BIG MARKET POWERHOUSE TEAM), then I'd probably have more dimes than the times the wings have gotten screwed over by calls in a relative time span.
should be a fucking goal, the fucking nhl should overrule that bull shit call aren't they watching the games? so wtf! who gives a shit if it's non reviewable they should fucking do something about it they call so much shitty things on wings because holmstrom in the crease, they disallowed a goal because one heel was like 2 inches in the crease and the goalie could move fine! the rule states that the goal may be called no goal if the goalie is not able to make a move.
this fucking brad watson almost cost us the series, if any team gets screwed it's the wings because the NHL does not want them to win because there is not much money in Detroit and they are a winning team in general. I'm telling you it's fixed i can't count how many times they blew off a goal because they said holmstrom was in the crease when he wasn't. fuck the NHL and it's refs and bettmen
@hockeytalk13 They probably blew off the goal because Holmstrom has a reputation for being in the crease, although the play is reviewable, I believe. Don't forget about the good calls for Detroit as well. Breaks even out, just a matter of time.
I cant tell you how many times my flyers have gotten screwed on early whistles. shit happens the world is full of injustices just have to deal. remember pittsburgh having an extra man for a full minute?
@subliem7467 It was more than a full minute. It was nearly a minute and a half. That was one of the main reasons I believed that the 2009 stanley cup finals were fixed.
every team gets bad calls. Its just when it happens to the wings you never hear the end of it. This call has happened tons of times to tons of different teams but the one you'll usually find a video of will have a red wing in it. Heck some of their video's are the correct call and they argue it. Ex. Kronwall hit on Havlat or the Steve Ott goal in dallas. Both properly called yet wings fans will continuesly argue every lose. It's gotta be a michigain thing cause their football does the same thing
@Kartracer6 im from michigan and thats not how it is. Kronwall's hit on Havlat was clean, he just had his head down so he didn't know it was coming. We do seem to get screwed over alot tho. The Lions didn't get screwed over but they got fucked by the rules this year on their game with Chicago that they should've won
@xBLaRowe I'll give you the lions one...and I'm from Chicago. I could see being upset on that one even though it was technically the rule. I'd blame the player more then anything especially since he stated he'd do it again if he had the chance. No havlats hit wasn't clean it was actually an illegal hit becaue it was interference which since it caused an injury on a 5 min major lead to an ejection. I don't know if Kronwall ment to hit him early but by rule it was illegal. That one is easy.
@Kartracer6 i dont think kronwall purposley meant to hit him. and i dont think it was early because the he looked at the puck bounce between his skates and thats when kronwall hit him. kronwall saw the puck going towards havlat. the puck bounced through his skates and thats when he got hit because he was looking at the puck. Kronwall wasn't watching the puck, it was havlats fault for not reciving the puck and picking his head up
@xBLaRowe it was his fault for not receiving the puck?? He was trying to receive it but before he could do so Kronwall hit him. No I doubt Kronwall meant to hit him early. It just happened but still it was illegal and with in perfect context of the rules for being an interference.
@Kartracer6 ive watched the video alot and i don't see a dirty hit. that could have been avoided by him if instead of watching the puck bounce through his legs, he played it and got his head up. the puck was between his feet when he got hit, therefore it is not an early hit. The result of Havlat getting knocked out was why the refs thought the hit was so dirty but it wasn't at all.
@xBLaRowe I said illegal not dirty. but no the linesman called it because on a major the linesman must wait till play is dead. Oh and the puck has to be on his stick before he can hit havlat. He can't hit him as he is trying to get it that's illegal. It wasn't a bad call it was just a mistake by Kronwall that got him tossed.
@Kartracer6 There's nothing in the rules about the puck being on his stick, only "in possession of the puck" (quoted straight from the rules). Now, Havlat looked up, and saw Kronwall, but decided to let the puck go, there by playing the body, Kronwall just got the better of him, last time I checked the rules, playing the body is not illegal.
@tadaskay The rule defines possession: "Possession of the Puck: The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession". He never touched the puck....he was trying to but kronwall disallowed him from touching the puck. Your not allowed to prevent a player from being able to get to the puck it's the reason interference was established.
@Kartracer6 You misunderstood my point, (and what you had quoted is pretty much the full rule of interference straight from the rules FYI to anyone) but my point was that Havlat played the hit instead of the body. I looked at the replay and he had a chance to get the puck, he looked up and lowered his shoulders, so he could take the hit. That's how I saw play.
@tadaskay he didn't have a chance. It was still under his legs when he got hit. he was waiting for it to come to his stick. Kronwalls mistake was not knowing where the puck was and still attempting a hit. Dangourous, stupid, and justified as a 5 min major and ejection
@Kartracer6 I would give you a link, but I guess I can't post it. At any rate, Havlat had a chance to take the puck on his backhand, but instead of doing that, he wanted to take the puck on his forehand. Havlat had also looked up, and he did see Kronwall. The puck being in his feet, or even around him can be considered possession, just because of how skilled the players in the NHL are. I've seen this play happen many other times, and no call was made, fact is, it was a bad call.
@tadaskay I've seen the call made dozens of times. Yes he saw Kronwall but you know you don't expect to get hit when you don't have the puck yet and that's what caught him off guard. It went off the wall and was coming to him. Perhaps you've never played hockey so I can honestly understand why you don't realize how you receive a puck but you can't turn around and grab it you gotta let it come to you. The rule of thumb is if you can't see the puck look at the players head if it's down
@Kartracer6 (going to try to respond to 2 posts at once here) Actually I have played hockey, which is how I know Havlat could have gotten the puck quite easily on the backhand. No, you don't have to let it come to you, in a lot of cases, yes, you do have to get it yourself, which is what Havlat could've done. The puck bounced off of the boards, and went into his skates (in which, being in said area, he had possession). I'd give Kronwall a charge, that's the only penalty (if any), bad call.
@tadaskay (as it was) then most likely the player doesn't have possession so in such case you don't make a hit. Kronwall straight up stated he couldn't see the puck and merely assumed Havlat had it even though his head was down recieving the puck. Instead of chosing to follow the rule of thumb he pressed his luck and charged into Havlat. The result....a 5 min major for the unnessasary interference and then the automatic ejection because of the injury. The call was a great call.
@Kartracer6 Meh, two in one is a pain :P. This conversation (or argument) isn't going to end, we're both going to keep stating both of our opinions, you will keep stating it was a good call, I'll keep stating it's a bad call. Lets agree to disagree here....Because I'm tired of this going around like a broken record.
@Kartracer6 Last post for me, because your ignorance is getting annoying. If you stated it by the rules, I would have agreed with you. I'm a hockey fan first, and a Wings fan second. It's your opinion, it's my opinion. Or, I can say I'm stating by the rule as well, that Havlat did have possession. Take your pick, but, I'm just done.
@tadaskay LOL I hope your done because what you just wronte made no sense at all. You state your a Hockey fan first a wings fan second and that he had possession but yet I gave you the exact qouted rule for possession which would have deemed it not possession and your saying it's possession? Can we say bias? I look at a hit with equal eyes and judge it by the rules and possession means he must touch the puck...he didn't. If you can find a rule making it legal I'll consider your opinion
what do u want the ref to do, he couldnt see the puck so he blew the whistle. It happens all the time, just not always does a team score right after he lost sight of the puck. There are bad breaks for every team so u just need to be prepared to deal with it and move on
i've seen the red wings get fucked so many times on bad calls.... mainly holmstrom for goaltending interference when he was clearly outside the crease.... and i couldnt be happier. lol i fucken hate the red wings
Plus it goes in right before the whistle is blown............that is a goal.......Why do detroit teams get these bad calls, happen to pistons , and Tigers a few days ago
If you look closely at the later replays, the puck goes in before the whistle. Maybe its just delay in sound, but even with the terrible ref, it was a goal
Wings didnt get robbed. The whiste blew and Hiller relaxed. If no whistle blows, he makes the save, the puck doesnt' go in if the whistle doesn't blow.
@juicelesscaptain "relaxed"??? he thought he had it covered. he was on his ass and never would have been able to get to the puck to even if he wanted to...
@chezj18 Unfortunately, when the whistle blows, players stop playing. We would have never known what might have happened if the refs let the play continue.
@juicelesscaptain you're obviously deaf and are only making an assumption of when the whistle blew, so i'll give it to you in proper order: 1) shot on hiller from the side. 2) puck gets through and sits just above goal line. 3) ducks jump and try to dive on the puck to prevent it from going in. 4) hossa gets there just before the ducks players land on the puck. 5) hossa puts the puck in the net. 6) the whistle blows. 7) ducks toss the puck out of their net. 8) hiller relaxes. get it?
@Ch33seMan It didn't matter, the powers that be were going to see to it that Detroit won the series anyway, bigger market (for hockey) and a much more popular team.
@juicelesscaptain They don't win just because they have more fans. Your reasoning isn't really sound... Cum hoc ergo propter hoc -- look it up. Also, I'm tired of hearing people say that the League fixes games. I don't think the League had anything to do with this one, or the one Brad May had called off earlier this year against Dallas, or any of a thousand Holmstrom goals where he got a phantom goalie-interference call against him. Shit happens; refs aren't omniscient.
@Ch33seMan The league doesn't 'fix' games, but you will admit (please?) that certain teams playing in the later rounds make the league more money than OTHER teams, right? I mean, its not like a Stanley Cup finals between the Florida Panthers and the Phoenix Coyotes will get as much revenue as a finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the NY Rangers. Am i right about this? Which 'matchup' will the league make more money from?
@juicelesscaptain so true. when tampa bay won the cup the tv ratings were fucken terrible. then the next season there was a lockout. something had to change in the NHL to make the game more appealing to the casual fan, like the shoot outs.
Someone really needs to send this guy a bullet in the mail or something. This guy single handedly stripped the caps from a game 7 overtime today holy shiiit.
Oh man this is the one bad call I'll never forget. I'm a Sens fan but I was rooting for detroit to win after we were out. I remember seeing this happen on TV. Detroit should have had the cup that year... really depresses me knowing that the refs took it from them.
I was at this game. I cannot express how pissed off I was when this happened. It was ridiculous to think that the stupid refs would call this game fair. Clearly the ref was on the wrong side of the net to be blowing the whistle, but he did it anyways possibly costing the Wings a win. I was so disgusted by the Ducks fans and the way they were acting, and to top it off with the Refs?! And this game ended with a cheap shot from that old man they call a Captain on a player that doesn't fight? Classy
im not a detroit fan by any means, but they definitely got robbed, i remember watching this game and just saying wow at how early that whistle was. this kind is shit is happening WAY too much around the entire league
If the whistle had really beaten the puck into the net, there might be an understandable "no goal" call. But the fact is that they enter at the same time, and if anything, the puck got in first. This should have been a goal. The "intent to blow the whistle" call needs to be seriously revised, for the sanity of hockey fans everywhere. Seeing stuff like this happen, even to the Wings, makes me mad.
"the whistle beats the puck in the net" bull-shit. Puck was clearly in the net before the whistle...but what's done is done...refs are still dumbasses, why the Wings couldn't go back-to-back.
@x30xSabresFan Wasn't expecting someone to reply to a 1 year old comment, thanks for bringing me back here though :). I do know the rules, fact is (was) though is the ref was in the wrong position, had he been behind the net like a ref should be in that situation, the wings would not have been screwed by the early whistle.
a similar situation happened to brad may this year. wings tend to get shafted by the officials, but kartracer's right. this was fair. what wasn't fair was steve ott's shootout/game-winning goal this past weekend. THAT warrants debate.
man im a colorado fan so i hate the wings so much but man this is such fucking bullshit! any team idc who shouldnt be getting fucked over like this and it always seems to happen when teams play the fucking FAGGOT ducks!
The call was right. When the ref loses track of the puck the play is dead. And it's when the whistle is intended to be blown not when it's actually blown. It's a sucky way to lose and I understand fans being upset....but the call wasn't wrong he did exactly what he was supposed to do losing sight of the puck. Still they should review rewriting this rule.
You know I will agree...I mean how does it kill the flow of the game...now I could understand if the goalie places his glove over the puck the ref intends to blow but before he does someone knocks the puck from his glove...but this is different this puck is in no way covered and that's what makes it bad. I can see how the ref lost sight of it though. Now my question is they say it's an unreviewable play...I've seen plays like this reviewed before why couldn't they review this
I agree, the "intent" part is way too open to interpretion/variation, so much so that it seems to be to big of a factor in determination of the outcome of games, which should NEVER happen. I am a Stars fan, and agree that the Red Wings have been screwed a few too many times with the "intent" rule
it was under Hiller for a second your supposed to blow the whistle whenever you lose sight of the puck which he oviously had and it may take a second to get the whistle into your mouth so the rule of when the referee says the play is dead in his mind it is so when it went under Hiller the play was dead
@ChandlerHolguin ur a fucking dumbass hiller never had it get some glasses ur just like the referee the puck never stoped tell it was on the other side of him sitting there on the ice not under him...
and thats the dumbest rule in the world. seriously if theres a scramble in front of the net the ref should already have his whistle to his mouth. plus it only takes half a second to react and blow a whistle
@x30xSabresFan : ya but they must make an effect to see the puck first before blowing it. Otherwise refs can blow the whistle at any moment and be like I couldn't see it. When their is a shot on net the ref needs to move to an angle to see if the puck is loose. It should of been a goal. Yet your are right. If the ref can't see the puck they can blow the whistle. Just that I don't see any effort from the ref to reposition himself to try and see where it was before blowing it.
i remember seeing this on TV. i'm a ducks fan i was just like "wtf just happened" i didn't even talk about it with my friends the next day. But my PE teacher from detroit didn't seem too happy x)
looking back, i would've liked to see this go into overtime o_o they lost the series anyways
Im so tired of Fagtroit and SHitsburgh, if either team goes far into the playoffs this year im gonna be pissed, like I dont mind Pittsburgh as much but the wings are just so fucking gay, they play like pussies, Gary Bettman's fucked up NHL is pissin me off
No, I agree with you there, as long as the big dumb mongoloids play clean, like say Konstantinov for example. But not guys like Pronger, who act like elbows are required at all times to stay on the ice. All I'm saying is that you don't like the Wings because they don't NEED enforcers to win. They're skilled enough without players that do nothing but throw semi-clean checks and skate like shit. And by the way, dude, Bettman hates Detroit. Because they're too good. Bettman wants 30 mediocre teams.
you're an idiot. Gary Bettman didn't want the wings to win last year he wanted his gay poster boy cry baby crosby to win his cup. Get your facts straight u fucking loser
The last time the Wings were dirty was in the 80s and the early 90s.idk why u think they are but they are the cleanest team in the NHL. Unlike the ducks.
Ya i'm a wings fan... The Pens won... Staurt did not have his head on straight that game.
get a life you fucking plug you know dick all about hockey so why dont you start watching soccer or some other sport for real pussies you cocksucjker..
A giant load of bullshit right there... There were so many terrible calls in the Red Wings Pens series too... They had 6 men on the ice for like 30 seconds... but it was a "mistake"... Oh, i guess it was also a "mistake" they didn't hear the whole Red Wing bench screaming 6 people too... But they had to make sure golden boy little bitch Crosby had to get his ring...
@Xgames13 youre so right bro. i remember that, edzo kept saying "theres too many men on the ice! theres too many men!"....and then sure enough a minute after that the wings take a penalty and the pens score. ridiculous.
Oh and UbadaNooba...your an idiot because half of the red wings are european trained players..they're trained to set picks but conspicuous if you knew anything about hockey you would know that
How the fuck was tht non reviewable? It's the Stanley cup playoffs. The Refs are like 3 blind mice

subliem7467 1 year ago
@subliem7467 It was more than a full minute. It was nearly a minute and a half. That was one of the main reasons I believed that the 2009 stanley cup finals were fixed.

fuck. idk to me it seems like the Red Wings always get horrible calls on them.
xBLaRowe 1 year ago
every team gets bad calls.
Kartracer6 1 year ago
@Kartracer6 im from michigan and thats not how it is. Kronwall's hit on Havlat was clean, he just had his head down so he didn't know it was coming. We do seem to get screwed over alot tho. The Lions didn't get screwed over but they got fucked by the rules this year on their game with Chicago that they should've won
xBLaRowe 1 year ago
@xBLaRowe I'll give you the lions one...and I'm from Chicago. I could see being upset on that one even though it was technically the rule. I'd blame the player more then anything especially since he stated he'd do it again if he had the chance. No havlats hit wasn't clean it was actually an illegal hit becaue it was interference which since it caused an injury on a 5 min major lead to an ejection. I don't know if Kronwall ment to hit him early but by rule it was illegal. That one is easy.
Kartracer6 1 year ago
@Kartracer6 i dont think kronwall purposley meant to hit him. and i dont think it was early because the he looked at the puck bounce between his skates and thats when kronwall hit him. kronwall saw the puck going towards havlat. the puck bounced through his skates and thats when he got hit because he was looking at the puck. Kronwall wasn't watching the puck, it was havlats fault for not reciving the puck and picking his head up
xBLaRowe 1 year ago
@xBLaRowe it was his fault for not receiving the puck?? He was trying to receive it but before he could do so Kronwall hit him. No I doubt Kronwall meant to hit him early. It just happened but still it was illegal and with in perfect context of the rules for being an interference.
Kartracer6 1 year ago
@Kartracer6 ive watched the video alot and i don't see a dirty hit. that could have been avoided by him if instead of watching the puck bounce through his legs, he played it and got his head up. the puck was between his feet when he got hit, therefore it is not an early hit. The result of Havlat getting knocked out was why the refs thought the hit was so dirty but it wasn't at all.
xBLaRowe 1 year ago
@xBLaRowe I said illegal not dirty. but no the linesman called it because on a major the linesman must wait till play is dead. Oh and the puck has to be on his stick before he can hit havlat. He can't hit him as he is trying to get it that's illegal. It wasn't a bad call it was just a mistake by Kronwall that got him tossed.
Kartracer6 1 year ago
@Kartracer6 There's nothing in the rules about the puck being on his stick, only "in possession of the puck" (quoted straight from the rules). Now, Havlat looked up, and saw Kronwall, but decided to let the puck go, there by playing the body, Kronwall just got the better of him, last time I checked the rules, playing the body is not illegal.
tadaskay 10 months ago
@tadaskay The rule defines possession: "Possession of the Puck: The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession". He never touched the puck....he was trying to but kronwall disallowed him from touching the puck. Your not allowed to prevent a player from being able to get to the puck it's the reason interference was established.
Kartracer6 10 months ago
@Kartracer6 You misunderstood my point, (and what you had quoted is pretty much the full rule of interference straight from the rules FYI to anyone) but my point was that Havlat played the hit instead of the body. I looked at the replay and he had a chance to get the puck, he looked up and lowered his shoulders, so he could take the hit. That's how I saw play.
tadaskay 10 months ago
@tadaskay he didn't have a chance. It was still under his legs when he got hit. he was waiting for it to come to his stick. Kronwalls mistake was not knowing where the puck was and still attempting a hit. Dangourous, stupid, and justified as a 5 min major and ejection
Kartracer6 10 months ago
@Kartracer6 I would give you a link, but I guess I can't post it. At any rate, Havlat had a chance to take the puck on his backhand, but instead of doing that, he wanted to take the puck on his forehand. Havlat had also looked up, and he did see Kronwall. The puck being in his feet, or even around him can be considered possession, just because of how skilled the players in the NHL are. I've seen this play happen many other times, and no call was made, fact is, it was a bad call.
tadaskay 10 months ago
@tadaskay I've seen the call made dozens of times. Yes he saw Kronwall but you know you don't expect to get hit when you don't have the puck yet and that's what caught him off guard. It went off the wall and was coming to him. Perhaps you've never played hockey so I can honestly understand why you don't realize how you receive a puck but you can't turn around and grab it you gotta let it come to you. The rule of thumb is if you can't see the puck look at the players head if it's down
Kartracer6 10 months ago
@Kartracer6 (going to try to respond to 2 posts at once here) Actually I have played hockey, which is how I know Havlat could have gotten the puck quite easily on the backhand. No, you don't have to let it come to you, in a lot of cases, yes, you do have to get it yourself, which is what Havlat could've done. The puck bounced off of the boards, and went into his skates (in which, being in said area, he had possession). I'd give Kronwall a charge, that's the only penalty (if any), bad call.
tadaskay 10 months ago
@tadaskay (as it was) then most likely the player doesn't have possession so in such case you don't make a hit. Kronwall straight up stated he couldn't see the puck and merely assumed Havlat had it even though his head was down recieving the puck. Instead of chosing to follow the rule of thumb he pressed his luck and charged into Havlat. The result....a 5 min major for the unnessasary interference and then the automatic ejection because of the injury. The call was a great call.
Kartracer6 10 months ago
@Kartracer6 Meh, two in one is a pain :P. This conversation (or argument) isn't going to end, we're both going to keep stating both of our opinions, you will keep stating it was a good call, I'll keep stating it's a bad call. Lets agree to disagree here....Because I'm tired of this going around like a broken record.
tadaskay 10 months ago
@tadaskay I didn't state an opinion I stated the rule. By the rules this call is correct
Kartracer6 10 months ago
@Kartracer6 Last post for me, because your ignorance is getting annoying. If you stated it by the rules, I would have agreed with you. I'm a hockey fan first, and a Wings fan second. It's your opinion, it's my opinion. Or, I can say I'm stating by the rule as well, that Havlat did have possession. Take your pick, but, I'm just done.
tadaskay 10 months ago
@tadaskay LOL I hope your done because what you just wronte made no sense at all. You state your a Hockey fan first a wings fan second and that he had possession but yet I gave you the exact qouted rule for possession which would have deemed it not possession and your saying it's possession? Can we say bias? I look at a hit with equal eyes and judge it by the rules and possession means he must touch the puck...he didn't. If you can find a rule making it legal I'll consider your opinion

the whistle sound itself doesnt matter, his intent to blow the whistle is what really matters

what do u want the ref to do, he couldnt see the puck so he blew the whistle. It happens all the time, just not always does a team score right after he lost sight of the puck. There are bad breaks for every team so u just need to be prepared to deal with it and move on

Wings didnt get robbed. The whiste blew and Hiller relaxed. If no whistle blows, he makes the save, the puck doesnt' go in if the whistle doesn't blow.
juicelesscaptain 1 year ago
@juicelesscaptain "relaxed"??? he thought he had it covered. he was on his ass and never would have been able to get to the puck to even if he wanted to...
chezj18 1 year ago
@chezj18 Unfortunately, when the whistle blows, players stop playing. We would have never known what might have happened if the refs let the play continue.
juicelesscaptain 1 year ago
@juicelesscaptain we all know what would have happened if play was allowed to continue...some of us just don't want to admit it... : )
chezj18 1 year ago
@juicelesscaptain you're obviously deaf and are only making an assumption of when the whistle blew, so i'll give it to you in proper order: 1) shot on hiller from the side. 2) puck gets through and sits just above goal line. 3) ducks jump and try to dive on the puck to prevent it from going in. 4) hossa gets there just before the ducks players land on the puck. 5) hossa puts the puck in the net. 6) the whistle blows. 7) ducks toss the puck out of their net. 8) hiller relaxes. get it?
Ch33seMan 1 year ago
@Ch33seMan It didn't matter, the powers that be were going to see to it that Detroit won the series anyway, bigger market (for hockey) and a much more popular team.
juicelesscaptain 1 year ago
@juicelesscaptain They don't win just because they have more fans. Your reasoning isn't really sound... Cum hoc ergo propter hoc -- look it up. Also, I'm tired of hearing people say that the League fixes games. I don't think the League had anything to do with this one, or the one Brad May had called off earlier this year against Dallas, or any of a thousand Holmstrom goals where he got a phantom goalie-interference call against him. Shit happens; refs aren't omniscient.
Ch33seMan 1 year ago
@Ch33seMan The league doesn't 'fix' games, but you will admit (please?) that certain teams playing in the later rounds make the league more money than OTHER teams, right? I mean, its not like a Stanley Cup finals between the Florida Panthers and the Phoenix Coyotes will get as much revenue as a finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the NY Rangers. Am i right about this? Which 'matchup' will the league make more money from?
juicelesscaptain 1 year ago
@juicelesscaptain so true. when tampa bay won the cup the tv ratings were fucken terrible. then the next season there was a lockout. something had to change in the NHL to make the game more appealing to the casual fan, like the shoot outs.

gnredbull 1 year ago
I was at this game. I cannot express how pissed off I was when this happened. It was ridiculous to think that the stupid refs would call this game fair. Clearly the ref was on the wrong side of the net to be blowing the whistle, but he did it anyways possibly costing the Wings a win. I was so disgusted by the Ducks fans and the way they were acting, and to top it off with the Refs?! And this game ended with a cheap shot from that old man they call a Captain on a player that doesn't fight? Classy

OMG! Why on earth would the referee blow the whistle if the puck's not frozen? I'm not even that much into hockey but this is a horrible call!
bigravensfan21 1 year ago
If the whistle had really beaten the puck into the net, there might be an understandable "no goal" call. But the fact is that they enter at the same time, and if anything, the puck got in first. This should have been a goal. The "intent to blow the whistle" call needs to be seriously revised, for the sanity of hockey fans everywhere. Seeing stuff like this happen, even to the Wings, makes me mad.
marcusclaudius266 1 year ago

jdoghockey19 2 years ago
The call was right. When the ref loses track of the puck the play is dead. And it's when the whistle is intended to be blown not when it's actually blown. It's a sucky way to lose and I understand fans being upset....but the call wasn't wrong he did exactly what he was supposed to do losing sight of the puck. Still they should review rewriting this rule.
Kartracer6 2 years ago
"intended to be blown" thats a stupid rule
jdoghockey19 2 years ago
You know I will agree...I mean how does it kill the flow of the game...now I could understand if the goalie places his glove over the puck the ref intends to blow but before he does someone knocks the puck from his glove...but this is different this puck is in no way covered and that's what makes it bad. I can see how the ref lost sight of it though. Now my question is they say it's an unreviewable play...I've seen plays like this reviewed before why couldn't they review this
Kartracer6 2 years ago
well at least the wings ended up winning, if they lost the series cause of this, i would prolly have killed a kitten haha
jdoghockey19 2 years ago
I agree, the "intent" part is way too open to interpretion/variation, so much so that it seems to be to big of a factor in determination of the outcome of games, which should NEVER happen. I am a Stars fan, and agree that the Red Wings have been screwed a few too many times with the "intent" rule
satanxhhhx 1 year ago
it was under Hiller for a second your supposed to blow the whistle whenever you lose sight of the puck which he oviously had and it may take a second to get the whistle into your mouth so the rule of when the referee says the play is dead in his mind it is so when it went under Hiller the play was dead

@fooloryo They are told to blow the whistle when they lose sight of the puck, he did his job right
x30xSabresFan 11 months ago
@x30xSabresFan : ya but they must make an effect to see the puck first before blowing it. Otherwise refs can blow the whistle at any moment and be like I couldn't see it. When their is a shot on net the ref needs to move to an angle to see if the puck is loose. It should of been a goal. Yet your are right. If the ref can't see the puck they can blow the whistle. Just that I don't see any effort from the ref to reposition himself to try and see where it was before blowing it.
