I spent 3 years in Germany (air force wife) and the germans tell me that those road markers were to help you know which side of the road you need to be on in the fog. It would get so bad...that's the reasoning for how close they are. Where we were in Germany it got so bad my husband had to walk in front of the car with me driving to show us how to go home. Of course it was also snowing at the time! I loved it there!
